It's the conclusions that are, and that's why the stereotypes get hit. For example; sub-saharan people are at the bottom of every society on the planet, vastly overrepresented in crime. Many of those sub-saharan countries have the average IQ that would make Forrest Gump a genius there. These facts would lead to some pretty rational but racist conclusions that go against the idea that race is only skin-deep. I mean, no one wants to wind up where we have to say we simply can't integrate certain populations because they are incapable of the complexities of modern society, but at the same time, if you pretend this isn't the case and all people are equal and only culture determines outcomes, then you wind up with large numbers of these populations in western nations, who will never achieve parity with the native populations nor fully assimilate, as well as lowering the average quality and success on the nation overall.
@ they can be racists. They just aren’t necessarily so. Just like even though a crayon can be blue… but just because something is blue doesn’t make it a crayon. Your statement is like saying crayons aren’t blue because some aren’t. It’s irrational.
@crowwick7652 No, they aren't racist. Either they're accurate or not. The racism is when you prejudicially treat all individuals of a group as the stereotype. Even when a stereotype is untrue, it isn't necessarily racist. Stereotypes are observed patterns.
@@Mallard942 so if you say something really offensive, as long as it fits a stereotype, it’s not racist? So if you call someone from West Virginia inbred, it’s just a stereotype. If you assume a black person standing on a street corner is selling drugs instead of waiting for a ride, it’s not racist… it’s just a stereotype? Oh you said you have to treat them a certain way. So a person that never interacts with another race can’t be racist I guess. Because they can’t act on it. Gotcha. Again… stereotypes aren’t racist in themselves, but they be racist comments. I’d venture to say that even stereotypes with a negative connotation aren’t necessarily racists. You don’t have to go to the opposite extreme. Just because lefties say everything is racist doesn’t mean you have to by default say nothing is racists. One extreme stance doesn’t cancel out the other.
I have had to correct a few people about Cinco de Mayo, which is more celebrated here than in Mexico. I would describe it as the Mexican equivalent of St. Patrick’s Day, in that most people just use both holidays as an excuse to get drunk and pretend to be either Mexican or Irish.
Sorry. This show is HILARIOUS!!! The number of people trying NOT to be "racist" despite the actual facts of things just goes to show how difficult it is for ANY OF US to say something that won't be taken negatively at some point. Cinco De Mayo is a weird holiday where they celebrate one strangely particular battle where Mexico beat the French during the 2nd French Intervention. Like, right in the middle of the war, and then the French came back and beat them again in the same place. It's very odd.
Maybe because the French are known for surrender any victories are forgotten. But Mexico and its hard-core history have people thinking of them as winners.
Yes but the French began to lose more and more battles and eventually gave up and left. Cinco de Mayo is popular in the US because of two reasons: Modelos and Corona wanted a Latin corpo/beer holiday so they picked a day Americans would get behind. Which leads to the second reason the Americans love when Europeans took L in the Americas and hated their half ass colonization of places we had spent a lot of time removing them from.
I asked my Mexican dad, who lives on Tijuana Mexico, if Mexicans celebrate Cinco De Mayo and he said no. Cinco de Mayo seems more of an American celebration then Mexican lol
I once saw a photo of a page from a high school year book of three Asian girls with the same last name. Respectively under each picture it read "We're" "Not" "Related."
Comedy was always great at helping people deal with the truth, even darker aspects of it. Thats why authoritarians hate comedy. They want people to remain afraid and ignorant. Because afraid and ignorant people are far less likely to think for themselves and refuse to do what they are told.
Excellent point; we seem to have regressed so much that many people no longer know that simply pointing out facts about other cultures does not make them racist. Webster's dictionary defines the word racist as having, reflecting, or fostering the belief that race is a fundamental determinant of human traits and capacities and that RACIAL DIFFERENCES PRODUCE AN INHERENT SUPERIORITY OF A PARTICULAR RACE. We should embrace each other's differences and learn from them. To avoid not coming across as racists, we should never sweep them under the rug and act as if they don't exist. That then implies that these differences are wrong or unacceptable. This has only contributed to failing to guide the future generations of our diverse nation.
In my country we are predominantly white and watermelons are very popular and loved. Honestly, I don’t get why smth would be considered racist to say if it’s associated with the culture of people who come from the same place and have similar habits. Just because you know it’s common with that group doesn’t make it racist. Like France is known for the patisserie, wine and cheese, Italy-pizza and pasta, why would you consider that not ok to say for any country. Racism is hate towards a group of people because of their race and considering them lesser, not a perception of their cultural heritage. Of course, not all people share the same tastes for example, even when they come from the same place, but it’s not racist to point the things most of them like.
I’m from Australia and as a kid EVERYONE ate watermelon . Mind you, I m a gen X originally from a rural area and most people I knew grew some sort of fruit and vegetables . Watermelon was a tough plant with few pests and easy to grow, so the majority of people grew it or knew someone that did so you’d get them for free. Lol @ nobody knowing what Cinco de Mayo is. The fact that it celebrates their victory over the French in 1862 is also why it isn't celebrated in Mexico, because the French returned a year later in 1863 and conquered the country, installing a Hapsburg monarch as Maximillian I, Emperor of Mexico. Not that he lasted long once the French troops went home. Maximillian was deposed and executed by firing squad only four years later, and the Mexican Republic was reinstated. For reference, Mexican Independence Day is September 16, and the Day of the Dead is November 1.
Ok, I'm at the watermelon question.....I grew up in south alabama...I'm gonna say racist, I don't know any people that don't like watermelon....I know people that are allergic to watermelon....let's see lol
The extra info given for the question was misleading, but there IS a difference between serial k and mass m in the US. Most gang-related violence wouldn't qualify.
Racist gets thrown around like 'decimate'. People think decimate means to obliterate the opposition. In truth, it means to reduce by 1/10th. So, when you watch a movie or play a game where two huge armies are facing off and someone makes the dialog, "We're getting decimated!" As one side is wiped out quickly... not decimated.
The one about “40% longer sentences” threw me. If the answer is still 10% more, that does support some “inequality” argument’s. I’m going to have to look into that statistic and see how it can be justifeid.
It's more than likely a reflection of the difference between relying on a public defender (who is overloaded with cases) and a private attorney representation. If you think 10% is something, the difference between men and women is men serving 62% longer sentences, and women are multiple times more likely to get a commuted sentence, probation only, or house arrest than men (yes this accounts for same crimes, same criminal histories, etc). In a way that's positive discrimination for women, seeing them as frail creatures so have pity on them. But it works vastly in their favor so you'll never hear a feminist bring it up.
@@jeffbren2151 could also be repeat offenders. if jamal is on his 3rd strike and john just got into a bar fight, with jamal. who gets a longer sentence ? even if theres no way to prove whose started it, everyone is charged with assault. clearly the judge would lock jamal longer do its his 3rd strike. worse if he was on probation already. its prior record and defense attorney that makes the gap imo.
Also, don't forget about recidivism. A lot of times, a harsher penalty will be handed down to a person who has been convicted multiple times for multiple crimes. That usually adds on some time to the sentence.
Yeah the whole thing is really confusing. Basically the French invaded Mexico to make it part of the French Empire around the Napoleonic era. Very shortly after winning the war, the French announced a new emperor of Mexico, pulled all the armies back to Europe, then the Mexicans overthrew the French government. Cinco De Mayo is a celebration of a town winning a battle in a war that they lost against an enemy who despite winning, still lost.
@@SmethwickCouncilmanBint Actually, it was not during the Napoleonic Era (1799-1815). France invaded Mexico during the American Civil War (1861-1865) in 1862. Everything else, though, you are right on.

But as I said in my other comment I have been listening for a long time, not just watching, and can HEAR a change in her voice when Israel is brought up. It is a hatred for them. I don't know if u have heard all her episodes or interviews on Israel but she has accused them of forcing not Israelis to live in ghettos on their land. Which is false. She has accused them of racism toward their attackers. She said she went to Israel and was "afraid" of them because so many had guns!!! They are in a continuous defensive mode and she professes to pro gun? She also accused them of gen. O side.... All of which is false. Maybe if we had to all go through military training because I are constantly having threats of war and have bomb shelters in every corner because u have literally 30 seconds to seek shelter from a rocket, maybe we could see why they have to live the way they do. They are God brethren and He promised to protect them. He also said their enemies would be His. And that's why I can't listen to her anymore....

For the watermelon one, I had come to the conclusion that it was wrong because I associate watermelons with the rural South, where there's dry heat that the juicy fruit would help with, and I expect most black people to be more concentrated in Northern cities, away from the optimal places to grow or enjoy it. Also, I have already read about where the "black people love watermelons" stereotype came from. Back in the Civil War era, free black people often made a living by growing and selling watermelons, and this lead to the fruit being a symbol of the abolition of slavery. Black people loved them in the way homosexuals love rainbows. It would be corrupted by the association between watermelons and uncleanliness (because watermelons are a rather messy fruit to eat), and this would lead to it becoming a negative stereotype.
I knew about the weave because my Mom is a hairdresser and can identify when someone has real or fake hair (back when everyone was questioning President Trump's hair I admitted that I wondered if it was real too and she said it was because you can look at the scalp where the hair meets and tell); she's also told me that African American hair is notoriously difficult to work with and that many prefer to keep it shaved and go with wigs instead. I knew about Cinco de Mayo too because we usually celebrate it by going to a local Mexican restaurant staffed by Hispanics--we asked them once if it was a big holiday in Mexico and they laughed and told us it was a gringo holiday. Still a good excuse to eat Mexican. XD As for the watermelon thing...well color me black because I love watermelon. XD Also the 'stereotypical black food' makes me laugh because it isn't--it's stereotypical *Southern* food, just about everyone down south eats it.

That is how you know the kid screaming wolf is lying, pattern recognition, it creates a preconception... except when you get it wrong then the entire village is devoured by wolves
Stereotypes in themselves aren’t necessarily racist.
Theyre not racist period. People forgotten the definition of the word
I always thought Cinco de Mayo was fake holiday, like Kwanza! OH! 🤣🤣😁
It's a beer drinking holiday like St. Patrick's day
@priorityecko4989 Darn skippy, pecker head!
St. Patrick was one the coolest saints we’ve ever had, of course modernity mocks his legacy with the sin of gluttony each year.
@@knytrydr73 lmao.
😂 I thought the whole thing was hilarious. It really showed how hilariously stupid we as a people have become calling everything racist.
Now if right wingers would only stop using the word treason for every infraction of what they see as patriotism. AKA their ideological viewpoint.
Not knowing what a holiday is for is ignorance, not rassism.
That's the joke
*Racism.
Sorry. This show is HILARIOUS!!!
The number of people trying NOT to be "racist" despite the actual facts of things just goes to show how difficult it is for ANY OF US to say something that won't be taken negatively at some point. No wonder people are walking on eggshells with each other these days! And, for the record, I believe that each of these contestants were NOT racist at heart but had the unfortunate circumstance of answering questions that were just best left unaddressed in the first place. 🤣
Cinco De Mayo.
It's a celebration of a battle they won in a war they lost..Fact..
Learned that from The Jay Thomas Show.😅
They won the battle and then lost the same battlefield the next day.

Cinco De Mayo is a weird holiday where they celebrate one strangely particular battle where Mexico beat the French during the 2nd French Intervention. Like, right in the middle of the war, and then the French came back and beat them again in the same place. It's very odd.
🤣 we know baddie, we watched the same thing
Appreciate ya
As Mexican as Taco Bell!
im puerto rican an when i was a kid my grandma told me cinco de mayo was more an american tradition
That is very true!!!
Probably because it's a celebration of 1 battle that was fought. The equivalent in America would be like every1 celebrating the battle of the Alamo.

You got to start somewhere, and comedy is better then drama at this point
Comedy was always great at helping people deal with the truth, even darker aspects of it. Thats why authoritarians hate comedy. They want people to remain afraid and ignorant. Because afraid and ignorant people are far less likely to think for themselves and refuse to do what they are told.
@SvendleBerries pretty much, that could be an outcome.
I was curious why appears that African Americans are associated with watermelon is a thing, so I googled it. It said …it became a symbol of emancipated (AA) freedom. Then there’s the description of “ the watermelon stereotype “.!!
Who knew the humble watermelon could be such a controversial fruit!!
And in my country, people are a bit freaky and a popular summer treat is cold watermelon with hard cheese.
I lived in North Carolina. everyone likes watermelon. Cook Outs summer flavor is literally a watermelon shake. Thats just the way it is.

I really like the fact that the show is drawing a solid line between racist assumption, and actuall true... with no middle ground.

This needs to be a regular scheduled show. I would watch every episode. This was hilarious.

I agree with the Jacob on the serial killer question.
I hate watermelon. It’s got zero flavour…

men, however, have sentences 40% higher than women for the same crimes.
@ Very well said. What your saying makes perfect sense. Thank you
@@jeffbren2151 could also be repeat offenders. if jamal is on his 3rd strike and john just got into a bar fight, with jamal. who gets a longer sentence ? even if theres no way to prove whose started it, everyone is charged with assault. clearly the judge would lock jamal longer do its his 3rd strike. worse if he was on probation already. its prior record and defense attorney that makes the gap imo.
Also, don't forget about recidivism. A lot of times, a harsher penalty will be handed down to a person who has been convicted multiple times for multiple crimes. That usually adds on some time to the sentence.
I think in areas with a lot of gangs, sentences might be higher than in areas where crime is rare.
Good for you for answering these questions first!
Huh……my old Spanish teacher said Cinco de Mayo was Mexican Independence Day….

@TheAsianRepublican I'm not sure u really read my comment so I will clarify as much as I'm able. My comments get disappeared if I use certain words so I'm sorry if it sounds weird. I'm not trying to be rude and as I said I had been with Candace from the start. I agreed with 90% of what she said. Her shot in the dark series was phenomenal! I had already been looking into that myself for several years. I think she went overboard with the French woman but I laughed. I think she was completely wrong about Micheal Jackson but whatever, eeww, but whatever. 😅🤷🏼♀️
With her "criticism" of Israel, fine, u can have criticism.
My church and several of our churches across America have made trips to Israel every year until this last year and have never been treated bad or been afraid of the people.

Bruh how did the guy mix up "Cinco de Mayo" with "Dia de Los Muertos?" 🤣
I like the first guys answer on watermelon, everyone loves watermelon! I have a person holiday that involves eating watermelon.
It's good to check Leon Trotsky and the political usage of the word 'racism'.

XD
As for the watermelon thing...well color me black because I love watermelon. XD Also the 'stereotypical black food' makes me laugh because it isn't--it's stereotypical *Southern* food, just about everyone down south eats it.
