Evening Codger, I have also bought the Puig screen only difference mine is the light smoked one. It seems that we were made in the same mold as we're the same size. Today was the first ride to work with the new screen and I had the same experience as you, no bufferting and a little side wide. So my conclusion is ideal for my next road trip but local riding I'll stick with the standard KTM screen. Going for a longer ride tomorrow to hopefully finish running the bike in and then I can book it in to unleash some 'POWER' can't wait.
Nice one! Good to have my first impressions confirmed. When I got home I put it in the lower setting and will ride it like that for a while. It is probably high enough for me in that position and it will also (well probably) reduce the side breeze. Ride safe! 👍
I think a 3rd party maker could do a mount which uses both screw fittings and make it adjustable by sliding up and down. But I think many things most of which are nonsense! The moulding grips it really the screw just locks it in place. You could ride it for a while without the screw, eventually it would come loose though I expect... 👍 PS Did you see your shout out? 😉
Yes it’s a bit marmite, but seems very effective. I’ll give it a go for a while, perhaps then save it for long motorway trips. Yes it seems it should be 2 years. You have to change it through your dealer - or so I was told. It worked. 👍
guys i have puig 20414 for ktm 390 adventure. its same like this. if you screw it to the hole below it is fine and does not wobble. it works perfectly for me .you also miss the rubber pads under the screws that i take from old shield. thanks for video
Hi, thanks för reply. I dont unddrstand, tje bottom on the screen doesnt fit in the gaps on the original mount. And the two metal things on that goes in the rubber between the mount and glass doesnt squezze through. Now i only use the rubber inlets on the screen with the screws.. Sorry for my english. The bottom on tje screen looks really weird too on the stock mount. Jave i done it wrong?
Hello. I just undid the torque screw that held the stock screen on the bike. Pulled the screen off. Undid the two screws that held it to the bracket. And pulled the screen away. Push the new screen into the bracket. Transfer the rubber and screws through the screen holes. Fit whole thing back onto the bike. I hope that helps. The original KTM rubber grommets were a bit thin (though they do fit) so I changed them for some slightly wider rubber grommets (though it worked fine with the KTM rubbers, I was just being picky). 👍
Thanks so much for your answers, the problem is, my puig touring screen doesnt seem to fit on the bracket. The bottom of the screen is way to wide. I cant get it to fit in the "lines" on the bracket. I dont know if i'm being understandble. The two screws on the glass fits without problem. The large screw that attaches the mount to the bike also fits nice. But the very bottom of the screen does not match the mount. Like it needs to be an imch wider on each side.. If i could, i would send you a picture.
If the blades, which slide into the mount, are wider than the stock then perhaps it was manufactured incorrectly. Measure the stock, the bottom 'blades' should be identical. If not, then return it for another, as it will never fit.
Hello Christopher and welcome. Nothing at all wrong with the Duke. Much better value in many ways and much faster. But I am an Adv rider (in age and temperament), had an Africa Twin before that, so for the sake of my license, back and offroad-longing, I swapped. See my RUclips mate CampbellZeroOne channel for lots of Duke videos also. I am now poor indeed for the trade-in was harsh 😉👍
Hi Andy. I used the SW Motech one, see vid below. There was a KTM one and many others released since then. I found it worked fine. ruclips.net/video/f1cySh_TFCA/видео.html 👍
Codger, I have a question not related to this video. My 790R sometimes takes several pushes of the starter button when cold, push it, runs for a couple of seconds then stalls, have you experienced this with your bike? I of course use premium 93 octane gas, I was just wondering.
No I have not had that issue. Might be worth a call to the dealers? Mine starts quickly and generally settles straight away. Hope that helps. My Duke used to stop sometimes when I first got it, but it was okay after the first 100 miles, it never stopped once it had warmed up...
Thanks for the video. I'm waiting for the Madstad screen for my 790. Which supposedly will be released in a court of weeks. I'm pretty curious what the mounting design will be. I've had a lot of success with them in the past, so I'm hoping this one works out just as well. As we both know, the OEM screen is crap!
Hi Caleb W. I don’t mind the stock screen so much as I mind the wobble. That most likely stems from the mount, well that is my conclusion. So a better mount is a good idea. I’d make one which used both holding points and 2 screws👍
Hi codger, like most the stock s screen gives me buffeting. I’m about to embark on a weeks tour to Spain. Can’t make my mind up whether this tall screen will be good for comfort or bad for not allowing some cool breeze onto my face! I’ve wasted so much money on screens for previous bikes before. Any opinion? I’m 5 foot 10 btw.
I’ve done 100s of motorway miles with S stock screen and peaked helmet and not had a problem. It puzzles me that others have issues. I’m 5’10 in my boots and run the stock screen on highest setting. Cheapest solution would be a clip on spoiler. I did a previous video on this. Wobbled a bit though... ruclips.net/video/06Yg0v6HyBA/видео.html See also ‘Ludwig’s Holiday’ videos, where I rode across the country with it... Given 2 heights of screen and multiple spoiler positions it would give you a lot of flexibility and you could remove it if hot. Cost £30 eBay
Oh right. I must have misread that you we’re getting buffeting with stock screen but zero buffeting with the puig, and that you we’re pleased with the puig. Fair enough!
Hi John. I find the stock screen fine. But I know many do not. It puzzles me so I have been experimenting (too much time on my hands 😉). I’ve tried R screen and S screen with height changes, spoilers and then the Puig. For zero wind the Puig on high setting was best. I quite like the R screen with a spoiler too for local riding with smooth air. Quite a few vids on my channel of each experiment. MY main issue with the screens is the wobble, it annoys me. I think that is down to the bracket. The Puig is stiffer in this regard. But I honestly do not think there is a one size suits all solution so far...
Hi again codger. So I tried my standard s screen on high and low settings again today. Found the lower setting was slightly better, clean air is just above my head if I stand up a couple of inches. Seems to hit me right at nose level. So now I’m thinking maybe the low r screen would hit me int he chest leaving nice clean air on my head for the ride through Spain. What do you think, is this what you experience? Love all your videos by the way!
Yes I think different people have different expectations. I like the R screen with a spoiler on it, see my video on this, for local riding. Some people want total shielding, others want smooth airflow, everyone is slightly different shape, high/low seat combinations... But some have said the low R screen is unbearable... hard to tell for sure. In bad weather it could change again. I am not being purposely inconclusive, there seems to be as many different opinions as riders. I’d borrow/buy a cheap spoiler 1st and see if you can get the feel you like that way. The Puig is much higher than stock especially on high setting.
I’m 6’1” do u look through the windscreen or over it? Was wondering how tall it is. Was thinking about getting it dark but didn’t want dark if you look though it. I heard u say you look over the screen but how tall are you? And how many inches about are you looking over the screen?
Hello. Mine is clear. I look over it. It is on the low setting so it can go higher. I can still see over it. I'm about 5'9". The camera is on my chin, so it looks through it. BTW best for non buffeting that I have tried is the Givi Airflow, by miles. But not many can live with the look. 👀👍 Videos are on my channel.
I bought this screen off the back of this of this review and got to be honest it doesn't help with buffering or wind noise for me at all.. Not Codgers fault, he clearly states there are many factors involved. But if it helps anybody I'm a little taller than Codger at 6ft, and no combination of seat and screen height, takes me out of the turbulent air flow or reduces buffering in any noticeable way.
Yes there are just too many variables to suit everyone. I hope you find something that works for you. There was another one which worked as well and also adjustable. I just didn't like the look, Givi Airflow ruclips.net/video/lJeO8QF1_kE/видео.html
If you watch this you can see it at 110mph on Isle of Man at about 5 mins in. No rattle. The mounting system (OEM) is always a bit wobbly. ruclips.net/video/No90xrs-wMo/видео.html
Hello Sachin. If you do a search for 'Puig 3587W' you should be able to find one. 👍 E.g. here: puig.tv/en/tuning-motos/windscreens-for-fairing-bikes/touring-screen?bike=25328
See, to me that Puig is not an attractive piece, and too tall for offroad use.............I put a chinese headlight guard on my 890...........22.00 delivered from China or up to 95.00 if its in country.
If you add some sticky backed foam strips inside the "square" mounting points you will reduce the wobble in the factory mounting bracket.
Nice idea. 👍
Thanks, I will try to do so!
i had it on my previous ktm 1190 adv..love it..u cant go wrong with Puig...nice video once again.
Thank you! 👍
Had a Puig tall screen on my Yamaha 400 Scooter and it was really good.
I did order one for my 390. Have had Puig before and was very happy with it, very rigid.
Evening Codger, I have also bought the Puig screen only difference mine is the light smoked one. It seems that we were made in the same mold as we're the same size. stay with puig !
Nice sweet spot in the centre with no distortion for the camera. Can't believe that it's all held in place with one screw!

@@CodgerBiker Lol, yes I did. Awesome scenery! Maybe a darker tint would help 😉😂
Greetings from India. Wish we could have it here in India. - fellow adv 390 owner.
I bought it online, eBay I think. Have a look 👍
I like the looks of your top case, can you tell us what brand it is and what rack its mounted on. ?
Hi, you dont use the stock screws for the two holes with the rubbers in the screen. Is this correct? Greetings from Germany
Hello! Yes. You use all 3 stock screws. I use separate rubber grommets, but the stock ones are fine also. You do not need anything else.
@@CodgerBiker thanks for the quick answer.

EDIT I'm having vibes too and after some months . I recommend the givi one which is the best brand of motorcycle accessories
@@morrison1571 which givi one do you mean? And how tall are you?... I really want to try and get this buffeting sorted out!
It do looks better with the short tinted screen. Is it really that bad on higher speeds?
Short screen is nice for local riding and offroad. On motorways and in winter it is a bit lacking, also some people report buffeting at high speeds.
I have a 790R and the screen isn't bad at all, if I was doing a big trip with lots of highway miles I can see how the puig would be a big advantage.
I find the R screen okay too, but for long journeys I need a bit more protection, especially in bad weather. 👍😉
how about testing the things BEFORE???
‘ BEFORE???’ What? I could do a thought experiment maybe 🤔 👍😉
Hello, does the original 790 mount work on this screen?
Yes. You just swap out the stock screen 'glass'
