Huh. So god-like beings walk among the sailors, and our character found out about it from a diary. Wonder what the beef between Mercury and his father was about.
The beef is the father tied to kill mercury's son. Mercury is a monster and is father is an unsipathetic a-hole but what do you expect from beings who see humans as nothing more than playthings.

Timothy must've kept his word as well. He kept a shrine for his worship.....and his silence. I doubt a man would blame him for that, for despite the misfortune on the ship, his mother and siblings were cared for. He obviously lived a long and prosperous life. But I did wonder? My absolute FAVORITE kind of tale. Loved this!!! A sequel would be epic!
Oh darn, I was waiting for more of his story. More would be wonderful. This was great narration and story, please do make a sequel.
There's not a sequel to this specifically because it was a stand-alone/backstory/character history from a book (I'm the author haha)

Was Mercurius there to greet him upon his end? Was he there to escort his soul to join those long ago killed by him?
Timothy boarded an ill fated boat
With men like him they stayed afloat
A Captain's disdain, an unpaid bill
But the mistress of luck doth borne ill
For two men appeared, their courage stout
The Captain's need, no boat without
Despite the warning, the Captain pressed on
The boat sailed away, doom before long
For the serpent's tooth found it's mark
The godhead being turned to the dark
As the serpent's heart found it's last breath
The godhead being sent it to it death
The beings tongue now filled with violence
For in their mess they must have silence
Mercurius looks at Timothy, his eyes filled with glee
For he found a worshipper, who would never flee
I make you a bargain, take a knee before me
Or you will join your brothers all of thee
In the abyss of darkness, the eternal sleep
Promise you make, and a promise you keep

And to his years, he lived Ninety Nine
But his promise is twofold, his soul does weep
For all of his crew will remain forever in the deep

COMMON NORSE PAGANISM W
With a Roman thrown in there
Yo
So is this based off of any particular mythology or ancient religion?
Yes, but no? They're creatures from Norse Mythology, but not specific gods from those mythologies.
Besides the Norse stuff, there's also Mercury/Mercurius, being from Roman mythology/pantheon
I mean you're not wrong, but in this case, it was just his mother's fault for naming him like that, he's not the god Mercury@@YokaiX
