Zero turn mower manufacturers recommend backing up hills and going forward down hills. That allows all four wheels to stay on the ground instead of lifting up like this guy did.
You’re correct about the manufacturer’s recommendation. However, I’m pretty sure that zero turn mower in the video wouldn’t be able to back up that hill.
If you have steep hills on your property just get a 4wd compact tractor with belly mower. I can stop halfway down or halfway up and have full control with no slip. We have steep hills here in Pittsburgh, PA. Take care.
OMG, what different worlds we live in. My yard is excavated like a golf course and I mow a MUCH steeper hill than the one in the video on my Cub Cadet z-turn going around the hill sideways. Not up and down. It’s a bit tricky but the trick is to keep the front end of the mower higher than the rear. I forgot to mention I’m an Alaskan woman and we love a challenge. Those pampered guys operating the mowers could learn how to mow hills the right way in these parts.
Keep the front end and tires higher than the rear tires and go slow around. I have a steep hill in my yard and a Cub Cadet z-turn. Every time I make another pass around the entire hill I keep the front of the mower pointing upward so one tire is off the ground and the other one is on the ground. Sometimes I miss the next row to be mowed because I did not get the front end high enough. Never let the front end be lower than the rear end sideways on a hill with a z-turn. It’s all about gravity
how to mow extremely steep hill: step 1. get a mower with roll over protection system. step 2. disable rollover protection system. recap: do it safely.
First Content I have seen actually doing it properly but I would be pushing the grass the other direction, so it doesn’t build up on ya You might be able to go side to side on that hill but you’re gonna tear it up and you’re Customer ain’t going to be happy
Roger that! I mow steeper hills with my Kubota ZD28 with 72in Pro Deck...sideways. it's quicker and looks better. Never came close to rollover even in damp grass. Heavy weight over rear axle and right tires (Stock). Damn! No disrespect but up and down sometimes preferred based on land. If steep hill runs parallel to a 1/4 mile driveway, it looks awesome and is faster. Also in skimming earlier post about getting a 4wd tractor with belly mower????? Really? Center of gravity higher resulting in more likelihood of rollover. It's just plain old Newton! its slower and it beats the shit out of you. I have both. 1 machine can't do everything. Mowing grass on any terrain except for super smooth flat Golf course, Zero Turn is superior...You just have to own the proper mower and there are a few great ones out there and then there's the rest. Sorry, it ain't green and it don't say JD on it. Who the Hell even builds that thing? JD doesn't build anything pretty much anymore than 40-50 HP Tractors all the way up to the biggest. That's real JD. Sorry, but you run a landscaping company and use inferior equipment that can't mow that sideways? Wow. Sorry Brother but I'm 60 and mowed a lot of grass in my years and that ain't gittin it. Peace.
i don't know how long "Growing Green Podcast" has been around but i'll say this: I WOULD NOT LISTEN TO SLOPE MOWING ADVICE from a guy who is running zero turn mowers up and down a steep slope WITH THE ROPS FOLDED DOWN!!! nice try guy. please review your videos before you post them to see if you are doing something CLEARLY RIDICULOUS.
Used to mow right of ways and always used front end weights made a bracket and added 160# to the nose of the mower.

Agree with that.
We go sideways on hills steeper than that in Alaska. Cub Cadet z-turn could mow that hill sideways.

Great content really helpful thanks bro, keep up the good work.

This guys don’t know how to mow hills I always mow hills side ways and I ALWAYS start from the bottom of the hill and make my way to the top
A big fan of the tweels .
We have a super steep hill in our back yard, we have a Cobra zero turn and still arent sure how to do it. Too nervous right now to even try
Back up hill, then straight down. Watching what he’s doing makes me nervous.
@@SquirrelDarling1Lol…Why? It’s only a little lawn mower.

There's a reason for that bar on the back. Roll over protection. People get killed not using u
"OSHA don't come get me" 😂😂
I mow steeper hills sideways with a Scag Patriot. If you take your time and go slow you can get it done.
EXACTLY. My Cub Cadet z-turn mows a steeper hill than the one in the video.
Put weights of some sort on the front or......how about chains like we put on snow tires??? Shoes when on ice?
Hey man I wanted to see more lawn care videos for you
Great video make more videos
Seriously that folded ROPS will save your life one day. Put it up and seatbelt on
How many degrees is that hill do you think mate?
Maybe 45-50
@@growinggreenpodcast wow, camera certainly doesn't do justice
scags turf tiger with Carlisle AT101s mowes my steep hills. had a 72" scag sabre tooth tiger diesel that worked even better.

I’ve got a hill steeper than that unfortunately and it leads right to a stream…
Same issue here, the bottom of my hill is a pond. Also, I was worried I'd fry the transmission going up that slope repeatedly.
Uh, diagonal may be what he meant. My yard has way steeper and longer hill. For hills, use tractor style mower - no zero-turn.

like to see one with a stand on mower in a ditch!
It’s called riding the hill . RIDE THE HILL . Why are you trying to go up . Go sideways and keep ur front wheels pointing upwards
