Freedom is our inalienable right and we are supposed to protect it and realize it on all levels from the social to the spiritual. But there are always forces trying to take it away from you, no matter whether it is your government or the people you hold dear. Freedom worries those who seek to control you and when it comes spiritual freedom, anyone and everyone will do their best to impede your ultimate release from the bondage of life. Why? Find out!

Very liberating and enlightening. An important point for me was to being aware that once you are free identifying oneself with the one consciousness- this state will be challenged by the surrounding. Thus one has to watch when this starts to happen for not being dragged into it. Especially those times are triggering me ...thank you Jason...

The masses fear and loathe freedom. To be free is to endure uncertainty, risk, confusion, contradictions, and the consequences of bad choices. They prefer to be told what to think, how to think, and will sacrifice their freedoms in a heartbeat for the illusion of safety
You’re right in the sense that freedom also means responsibility. The more free you are the more you become aware of the state the world around you is in. That’s how the spiritual free person also is the most compassionate one. True spiritual freedom also means having great awareness. That leads to being in-tune with nature and the world and the need for unnecessary protection and control falls away naturally. Being spiritually free also means knowing that this life is just a dream in an eternal state of awareness. Ultimate freedom is knowing that life and death is just an illusion.
Those who sacrifice their freedom for security lose both.

Once again just what I needed to hear Mr G! I've recently had the go ahead from my employer for an unpaid year off to travel. Really excited to go into the world. I have noticed how people's attitudes have changed towards me since word got out that I was going, some excited others upset that I'm obviously not wanting to play along in the same games anymore. Either way the unknown that is to come has me pretty elevated ✌️
In this day and age we live in, with all the division between the left and the right, the division of sexes and genders, race, class etc, this is an important message, freedom. Liberation.
One cannot truly be free, or spiritually awakened while being caught up in this duality of division.
I know this first hand, at one time being caught in the web of left/right politics and identity, and then finding myself on this path of Self-Realization and seeing the stark reality clearly, between the oneness of Atman/Brahman and the duality of divisiveness of the egoistic world.

Wise words as usual. I´ve heard some spiritual teachers say to people after a realisation : "Congratulations, now you can play the game" And that is exaclty where i'm struggling with, because after awakening you can see clearly that most people cheat especially big corporationss and government. There is a strong desire to contribute to society because i realised the oneness of this universe, but on the otherhand my ego refuses and don't want to participate in a corrupt game so to speak.
I live in the Netherlands and unfortunately we don't have any mountains to withdraw to :-) .
Are you really free though? Because your mind still cares a lot about the outcome of the game. Your ego is picking sides as me vs world. You are judging,suspecting,fearing and also your ego thinks you need to do something. I guess thats not a point where “you can now play the game”
@@vanianup I've never said to be free. But you are right that the mind is very busy with the game and creates fears, anxiety etc. And this mind is still judging indeed ( u are doing the same right now but it's ok) i told exactly what you are saying here, that this ego is still struggling. My ego is in Berserk mode since there whas this realisation that there is no division between me VS a world. Ego kicks and screams because it's afraid of losing it's job.
@@innocenzz to be truly free from the effects of world(sansara) is extremely hard. Hard for you, hard for me and it is so for mostly all. You have reached a point of realising world does this to you and thats a milestone in itself according to me. I am at that point where I understand the effects of the world on me. But to be free from it , to move forward, to not get angry at the lack of humanity in humans , thats a long way ahead and I am not even sure I will reach there in this lifetime. All the best to you. I wish you at least few moments every day when you are indeed free.

But i'm glad i have moments of freedom during the waking state as well. When i read a bit of Nisergedatta and contemplate afterwards it sometimes lead to beautiful states of consciousness where freedom is there.
Last week i came past the mind and whas in a realm or state beyond this world, actually at a point of realising that the "I Am" or Self is there all the time and that it's just the mind that believes it is in this world. while in fact the world appears in me. it's difficult to describe but Nisergedatta would call this beyond time and space and beyond all duality. afterwards a small tear of joy appeared and a divine laugh, but within a minute mind came back and started fighting against that, which in my case results in running to the supermarket to score some alcohol ( still struggling with alcohol unfortunatly ) I''ll find this a strange phenomana, like why does the Atman or higher Self not intervene ( it is like it let it happens). I just came so far but still this is happening is kind of weird. On the otherhand the relapse in addiction helped me a lot in getting better in discernment (Viveka) Before this relapse i was sttill searching everywhere like new age stuff for example. before this relapse ego thought it was already there and very far, but the relapse made me more humble, and showed me to that accepting i don't know sh**t , which brought me further. Maybe it's a bit like Einstein who balanced on the border between madness and insanity, this is likewise. There is this fascinating quote: "The Mystic is swimming in the same ocean as where someone in a psychosis is drowning in" that is a bit like it.

To come back to my original post where our conversation started, i could have been more clear. My struggling of the persona is a fact of the realisation that I'm this world. so there is really nobody to blame it's just that ego is used to it. Ego does want to blame politicians for example and even considered protesting against lockdowns for example. I didn't do it because there whas this deeper sense that i would be protesting against myself. ( for most people this would sound absolutely mental :-) )
this is all difficult to explain but it's hard to not have any control of it, because the little "i" doesn't feel responsible for what others do, because i have no control in what others do. like i can't relate to decisions that are being made because of mostly ignorance. The higher Self realises it's just Shiva who is doing it's dance to transform according to Brahman's will, because pain or destruction often has a purpose as i learned from my own addiction, depression etc. It just comes down to surrendering is what i believe, because when i'm honest Brahman or the universe so to speak has been very good for me since i had this experience.
So important on so many levels,. When I embarrassed eastern spirituality, I had friends and family members try and turn me away from this. People who try and make a significant change in any way encounter opposition. I guess for me, real freedom developes from not caring or thinking about what people or society do to restrict freedom. It's certainly a challenge but well worth achieving spiritual freedom. Thanks Brother.

No need to tell friends and family about it. Walk the path to freedom but continue playing your role on the surface. Its only the ego that needs to talk about it as now you want to be a "spiritual person". It really shouldn't matter either way. Avoid unnecessary conflict if you can.

Great message! Very important indeed. I had this kind of illusion - Enlightenment is good and my mind should be grateful I’m going in this direction, my family should be grateful because i become more loving, more present, more patient. But in reality it’s so much more complicated, there are civil war in each of us and one side going under the flag “liberation of the mind”/“enlightenment”/“awakening” and other… i guess… “ego”.

My daily study and reflection is what allows me to go into the corporate environments, they think I’m there for the pay check, I am there to help others realize the prison cells they put themselves in, just because that door is open, we can choose differently which is the path to freedom.

I am friends online, with a group of people who believe that the strong should not help the weak, and that the self, along with a small circle composing of their family, is all that should be looked after. Also believe that government should be reduced and eventually got rid of, I agree with them on that part. I worry that Libertarianism, as its called in the USA, is too selfish, and that people like that actually prove the need for a government, so some form of compassion can be imposed from above if it is not going to come from within. A truly compassionate person, on the other hand, will do what is right, to the best of their judgement, every time, and collectively they do not need a government to tell them what to do. Should I stick around with these friends, or go my own way? I am friends also with social justice warriors online, and I don't quite think like them either; SJWs are guilty of groupthink. I just bought your book, Fasting the Mind, and I am looking forward to reading it.

As a taoïst student for life, i really learned sm from taoïsm. Not any of my family or friends would and still will support me in my religion/philosophy. They don't understand it and don't want to hear about it. If you don't want to hear about something and don't be willing to be open about it and even just listen to it, you will neber wanting to hear it.
Hey Jason, usually find your content pretty on point. For me parts of this video felt a little myopic in its teaching.
A few considerations-
- When individuals are on a spiritual journey it’s easy to blame others for the limitations in their progress (“not wanting you to be free”), this itself is egoic, and while I hear the deeper message of what you’re saying (I.e. others won’t understand where you’re at and will try to bring you back to a place that’s easier for them to deal with on their own level), I think it’s important to incorporate a sense of empathy to avoid isolating from those on a different path.
- Following on from the isolation point. While consciousness/non duality are important to understand at depth, we still live in a world of form, and it’s ok enjoy that. Far too many times I’ve seen people isolate themselves on a spiritual journey because they no longer connect with friends/family as well. Our identity, while false, is something also to be enjoyed and celebrated. An acute awareness is key when it is creating suffering, but isolating ourselves from society does not feel aligned with our symbiotic nature and causes a lot of people to become depressed.
As always, love you work and the effort you’re putting into the content. Just feel like this topic can be quite slippery for some.

I want people to be free that’s kind of a problem if you get free you see everyone in cages that are locked on their side I can’t unlock it and it’s sad. Also I thought about farm animals. It’s the same thinking on a different level if they where free it would become less productive or what have you and so if we all where free it would be less productive however we would need to produce as much because god would give us what we need in a different way then it does now I think maybe I don’t know whatever don’t care.

One must go beyond freedom beyond bondage these are only concepts of mind there is no freedom or bondage it's an illusion of mind ,maya itself is an illusion,illusion is an illusion brahman is only a label an illusion one mist beyond all phantoms of the body mind beyond shiva nothing excist
Liberation: Know and understand - and I will swear to this - that loving God and loving yourself is one and the same thing. When you see God face to face one of the things you will see immediately is that you and God are One. This is what the East gives us, and it is true, because I have seen God. The most startling and unbelievable thing about seeing God face to face is that you and God are One!
It follows then, that loving God and yourself is one and the same thing, and that if you really do love God, you will love yourself correspondingly. What I mean is, if you love God a little bit, you love yourself little. If you love God more, you love yourself more. If you love God in Perfection, you love yourself in Perfection. Does that make sense to you or have I lost you? Do you have to see the "Beatific Vision" before you can understand this or is it logical?
