without a doubt one of the best interviews iv‘e seen and this should by no means be a one off! I love the vibe right after the event when all the stress dissapates
Could not said it better myself. Engin is in fact perfect for WAF. Pure sport, thats what hes about. Not reflectors, fame, money, trashtalk, nothing, just pure sport, as fair as it can possibly be in setup, in calling fauls, etc. It takes serious balls to come to this conclusions, especially when its something you are so passionate about Like Engin is about AW. To say Im not good with my character to be leading this. Thats a HUGE. Especially since it has nothing to do with those being bad characteristics. But Engin allways came as introverte, no wonder he thinks good. Also he di mellowed out, even from the start when I "know" him, like last years, he does seem somewhat more approachable. In the end, no matter what, and how it goes on, Engin will allways have my appresciation for everything he did. I see him as a good guy. And in the end, thats what its all about. Are you a good person or a prick.
History will remember both you Neil and Engin as the founding fathers of what armwrestling would become in the next 50 years. Thank you guys for being a part of this community.
This is a sign Engin. YOU MUST COMPETE AGAIN! Do it for. your own enjoyment and for all of us armwrestling fans out there. What's certain is that, win or lose, It will be an absolutely EPIC moment seeing you back at the table🙏 Thank you for the Great interview Neil!
I think this interview is well overdue. A lot of new fans needed to see and hear Engin's point of view mixed with a little bit of his history. I really enjoyed it and must say i see him in a little bit of a different light.
Yeah, very well said. I was thinking the same way, like he is stuck between a rock and a hard place. This interview made me appreciate Engin (and armwrestling) even more. A friend of mine who's majorly into sports told me recently "it seems like armwrestling is still in a pure state which is very rare".
Major respect to Engin, I have been a detractor on his approach previously (and potentially wrongly) but I have major respect for his principles and the strength of his character, you have brought us to this position with EvsW especially, you will be remembered and respected deservedly, thankyou brother
Engin you would be crazy to ever walk away ! You brought this to another level!! I’m just a fan and have been for as long as Travis been arm wrestling, get the help from others but keep that money man !! U deserve it and earned it , don’t hand that away principal le or not family first , your bread n butter next .. I live east vs west it’s great I rarely watch ufc n football anymore ..
05:11 Please no casinos or gambling companies involved, Engin. 🚫This will lead to bribery and match fixing. That's not growth. That's destroying the sport. It's crucial for genuine sports fans to have zero doubt in what they see. If they start to think that the outcome of the matches are scripted or predetermined, it's all over. ⚠
@@Sm0oka No thanks! Growth for the sake of growth is harmful. It has to be the right type of growth. There is a difference between growing muscles and growing a cancer.
Unfortunately it would be the inevitable. Enjoy the authentic non fixed arm wrestling games while you can haha. It will be entertaining either way like this upcoming Mike Tyson fight.
100% agree about the accessibility of Armwrestling. As a fan coming in during the last few years, being able be to meet, talk and train with world class athletes is absolutely awesome. I’m sure it will evolve soon to the next level as the sport gets bigger.
I have so much respect for Engin. I love AW and am a huge fan of many pullers but if i had a chance to meet and spend some time anybody in the sport my choice would be Engin.
I could listen to Engin talk about Arm Wrestling all day. I’d buy a pay per view of Neil asking questions to Engin, Travis, Michael Todd, Devon, Ermes, and John. An interview that has no ending. It stops when the questions naturally come to end. It could go for 8-10 hrs!!
Integrity. I got what you said about the sponsoring. When it comes to beliefs, they can be in the way. Hopefully finding sponsors, in the internet era is a bit easier than before. There is always a way and you stay true to yourself in the meantime. Great interview.
I understand Engin so much more after he said “I owe Armwrestling”. We are spectators and practitioners but the US does not contribute in anyway toward the success of an athlete let alone an AW. Great podcast and thank s for taking the time Engin.
Respect to Engin for denying sponsors like gambling sites or different alcohol brands. Keeping garbage like that out of the picture and not giving them any additional attention IS a good thing ultimately, whether its for religious beliefs or not.
@@jckdnls9292 Just like in most strength sports roids are working in the background and no1 talks about it, but who is ADVERTISING steroids? Big difference in if an athelete is getting drunk and gambling behind the scenes VS promoting it live on the camera, its really not that difficult to understand.
@@jckdnls9292 I think the roids just have become an intrinsic attribute to the sport. If you want to compete on a high level, you would need to abuse this, just like in strongest man competitions or bodybuilding competitions. I agree that roids can be harmful to anyone, but changing this now would be tantamount to changing the entirety of the sport. Gambling and alcohol however are NOT intrinsic attributes to the sport. So I dont quite get the issue that you have with Engin not wanting this in the sport, as it really has nothing to do with it
Most may disagree with me on this but i dont want this sport to grow anymore.. cause i agree with Engin i KnOW it wont be the same and far too detached like all other sports if too much money flows in it
Engin: I will put my principles and myself aside, if they hinder future of armwrestling.. Devon: I will see global armwrestling respect my principles or I will gaslight it all..
Engin has to sacrifice the integrity of the sport for the popularity and that's why he is so conflicted about his feelings, about Devons behavior, Queens get on your knees under the table move and other new bs, no hypocrisy, just a man who loves something and wants it to grow yet there is no perfect solution for current situation
Engin is a legend and this east vs west i know this is taking a tole on him, Terzi is a legend armwrestler, and do this because he loves the sport and want to help the sport, but engin deserve to be armwrester again and to get his proper training and rest to compete, but he has to be a chairman of EAST vs WEST!!!
engin did alot to the sport nobody can say anything negative about that however, he is too involved on a personal level with the athletes and he is too sensitive and keeps getting into bad situations like removing videos and arguing with devon on stream and his hands shaking and then at EvW 15 at the end when morozov vs devon happened and engin almost cried its a bad look ... dont get too involved and if u do DONT cry at every small situation because don't forget its a fight game and you are dealing with strong men on roids so Engin if you are too sensitive dont get involved with the athletes. Look at Dana white for example when athletes get personal with each other he always says they are fighters what do u expect and he doesn't get involved. Engin im not a hater im actually a fan but i have been watching UFC for 10+ years and then fell in love with armwrestling but stuff like what happens between devon and denis / morozov you need to LET IT HAPPEN thats the stuff that stars like conor mcgregor came out from and put UFC mainstreem, so instead of trying to control everything LET ATHLETES go at each other dont get involved too much like they are your kids or something..
Well I see his personal and ‘intimate’ sort of relation with the athletes as a plus. He truly does care about his athletes. For example, when Devon was heavy into his cut for his latest match with Petrenko, Engin provided him the necessary provisions to stay healthy and achieve his end goal(105 kg). This is something you would NEVER see with Dana White and his athletes. Dana could care less whether his athletes are in a good medical condition or in a bad medical condition during the weight cut. He simply cares whether they achieve it because it’s in their contract, with no further concerns. He even is willing to fine them if they dont reach weight. I agree that Engin needs to stay as objective as possible, but you must also understand that the man has a great share of empathy which is admireable.
caring about the athletes and being too involved are 2 diff things man. You can continue to manage and care for athletes behind the scenes no issue with that but being infront of the camera in every single interraction between every athelete and interferring between them and removing videos and calling your top 1 (devon) a cheater etc IS NOT good.
Engin, you yourself love & enjoy stirring the pot. you can see the Joy on your face when it is done in a certain way. I think you are being too hard on yourself. you also didn't get the nickname the enigma of rage as a promoter, that was as a competitor. you have done a great job and evw is succeeding and thriving thanks to you. so, I have to disagree. I'm only a few minutes in I'll keep watching! 💪🏻
I imagine you felt the need to delete my large critical comment? But I really didn't mean any harm.I was not trying to be hurtful at all.Just very honest and critical.
I agree, he did a great job building it, but he's not the right person to push forward. He's an arm-wrestler at heart, not a businessman. I'm the same way.
Im only 6 minutes in, and i get what engin is saying but he can be the match maker and continu to do interviews but let the financial side to his partner.
About time someone took over, 15 events and the rules aren't even iron out. Champions are complaining that they are getting rob and champions calling other champions cheaters and the event organiser calling his Champion a cheater what a situation
