+john malcum There are far more ridiculously talented musicians that you've never heard of than there are that you know. I would never make music my career. You can do everything right, and the odds of success are still stacked against you. It irks me to see non-musicians take this work for granted. People see performers and give no thought to what it took to get there... even if it's just a simple song like this one. When I see someone performing at a bar, or on the street, I make it a point to stop and give them my full attention. Whatever it was that I was doing before can wait a few minutes to enjoy this rare opportunity.
This is not a simple song if you compare it to many pop songs from like Justin Bieber or One Direction.
Swing Life Away is a beautifull song with a complex structure of chords.
+MisterFab1an You're right. From my perspective as a guitar player, I'd say the song is intermediate in skill, still favoring the simple side though. The strumming pattern takes a bit to get used to, and the there is a separate chord progression for the chorus, but overall, not too difficult. Now that doesn't mean that it's not good. I would argue that a the most moving songs tend to be simple ones with good lyrics.
With regard to the Bieber comment, I'm not defending him in the least, but you know some of the instrumentals are just as complicated if not more-so when compared to this song. Of course JB isn't the one playing those parts! The reason Bieber really sucks is because his lyrics are complete trash. They are not relatable , and they were written at a 5th grade reading level. The "music" in some cases, isn't that bad. I'd even go as far as to say that I like the instrumental part of "Love Yourself" even if they completely stole the bridge practically note for note from chorus of Macklemore's "Same Love."
I would lose my shit if I saw Tim from Rise Against playing guitar !

Wish they did all their songs like this. Nobody knows how thousands turn out to their shows, how tens of millions have heard their songs, how many hundred millions of dollars they've made and raised. They just assume that they're another guy just trying to get by, not realizing who they really are. So awesome.

Christopher Gordon and you don't realise how little bands make. While I assume that Rise Against does well financially right now, they're certainly not making millions.
Most bands these days lose money while touring.
Joey Kiwiandapple ...dude, I've been in touring bands before, am in one, have been in some since I was 16, and have met these guys and crap ton of others, as well as have toured with most of those others. Trust me, they're making money and are still one of the biggest bands out there (Rise Against and all the signed bands you see, that is). Bands hardly make any profit off of downloads and cd sales. Most of the money they get are from selling tickets at shows and money they get from selling merchandise at merch tables. whatever is left over after paying the merch guys/girls and set-up crew, is split between the band and the venue. Hell, aside from my part time job at the movies, that's where I got most of the money I have right now.

Trust me, tons of fans recognized him, but obviously they cut the footage. RA is relatively popular in Hungary, they come here every two or three years.

story time:
so i like to take my guitar to school and play stuff on the breaks, today on the first break i decide to play this little jam multiple times, it's pretty fucking addictive.
so this two guys come to me, put a used coffee cup in front of me, complement me on my playing, live a couple of coins in them and walk away. i bet it was as a joke but at list they we're nice about it
later that day i play again on a break and these 2 girls approach me, one ready with a coin and her friend filming with her phone together with like half a dozen other filming from a far. the throw a coin into my case and flee like im about to bite them, giggling like fucking hyena's and leaving me mad for the rest of the break.
and this how why i wrote on my guitar case "please dont throw money in here as joke, at the end no one's gonna be laughing. also while do appreciate the gesture if you mean it but i really don't need the money, save it for someone who needs me more"
(btw i didnt take the money in both cases. i dont think i deserved it and it ended up being barley half a buck)
I listen to this song after not having heard it in such a while...
I can only cry because it feels like nothing else in the world matters but the kindness and goodness in our hearts; in my heart. I feel like I can share these two things and be content. It just seems so simple.

It’s because he’s playing in a different world than we live in. Imagine living somewhere where you can go into public and not have to worry about being violently attacked or robbed. This is cool because it’s simply non existent in most of the western world, playing street corners is almost completely dead after 2020.
Every acoustic artist should have to do this at least once in their lives.
Tim should come to China and do this, there's like 30 people who listen to RA here, and I wouldn't mind bumping into him skating 2am at night

I still cant believe that I was right there on that station at the exact same time and I missed the shooting of this video. I arrived in Budapest at 7am that day and I decided to take a nap on a random bench at the same station. Luckily, I met him and the rest of the band few hours before the concert.

***** For me it is mainly the vocalist (and his lack of talent, or perhaps the lack of "soul and heart" in the vocals would be a better description) and those stupid hook "ah" (or something). Furthermore the auto-tune that has been applied on the female vocalist is just straight up bad and unneeded. And, perhaps the worst part for me; the lyrics are rather poor and uncreative ... Overall the song is just rather bland.
Of course this is just my own opinion, I am in no way criticising the song you like, but to me it's not that good.
Arch Hahaha the vocalist was a guy singer named Kellin Quinn from Sleeping With Sirens and I do respect his voice but I have to admit I thought it was a girl at first.
