  • Part one:
    '88 Honda VT1100 Bobber
My buddy Chris asked me to customize his Honda Shadow into a nice Bobber.
He already bought some parts and put them on temporarily to see the shape.
The first thing I did was thoroughly clean the bike so I could see which parts would need a new layer of paint.
First in this video is the disassembly of the bike. After partially disassembling I cut off the passenger footpegs with an angle grinder, smoothed the frame tubes, removed the helmet hook, and welded those holes.
The long rear frame ends, with the attach points for the original rear fender, where then shortened and grind into a nice shape. After I made some covers for those frame ends (1,5mm sheet metal), I TIG welded them onto the frame.
When those were welded I started on the rear fender which Chris already bought. I've cut it in the desired shape and made stainless steel brackets to the rear swing-arm. As you see in the video I put in 3 big nuts to the inside of the fender to keep the same clearance between the fender and rear tire.
Next up: the speedometer bracket. Cut the original bracket and welded a nice bracket to fit the shape of the bike.
The wiring of the bike was an easy to fix job, only needed to reroute the starting knob, headlight, taillight and brake signal wiring.
    Next video:
    Complete rebuild of the bike!
    Volgende video:
    Compleet opbouwen van de motor.
Thank you for watching, we hope you've enjoyed it.
    Keep on building!

It's good to see people repurposing bikes, not just parking them and buying the next shiny thing. There are a lot of good engines rotting away because of fairing damage or a bent rim.

Gets you off on the right foot budget wise too often times. As opposed to say, buying a new bike to start with. Of course some could look at that as short changing potential customers but not really, if : you are honest about the origin of the doner bike. Or you still are and do a total rebuild of the mechanical end. Don't laugh. Not everyone does. Still, if it's a stock Triumph some people will still whine that it became anything other than a stock restoration. For some sticking a hardtail on a stock Bonneville is like a dagger thru the heart.

what fork and yoke did you use? is this the original?
And do you know a fueltank from a 1988 fits on a 1985 frame?
    This is a awsome bike...

      Hi Richy,
      Thanks mate!
These are the original forks and yoke. I think the frames are quite identical, so it wil probably fit without massive modifications. Maybe another mounting lug, and that’s it.

    • @RawMetalRacers

The frame has two tubes at the top, so it’s quite wide. That’s probably why you don’t see them with a peanut tank

    • @RawMetalRacers

Dylan, for the throttle cables and brake hoses you’ve got universal pieces in every length!
I use MKX for brake lines. They have brake lines where you can put on any swivel you want.

      @junkyardjedi7706 5 лет назад

"Road sign" aluminum works well for all that ! Its about 1/8" thick. Or 10ga.
If using steel,12ga. Is good for seat pan.
18ga. Is good for the rest.

You probably could, but you’ll have to modify it. The frame of the VT1100 consists of 2 tubes below the tank, a peanut tank is mostly made for a single tube frame!
