      MTV were not racist, they played the Specials twice on their very first air date, and they played several black artist before MJ in 1983, became the first black artist to be placed in heavy rotation. She was not one of the first females to break through either. Donna Summer, The Pointer Sisters, Tina Turner, Shelia E, were among the first and had multiple videos played, and in heavy rotation as well.

      Super intelligent and razor sharp. She did say she wanted to be a teacher (had she not made it as a singer) so it makes sense.
      I want to share what I think is her most phenomenal, most powerful and most exhausting (in a great way) love performance. It's a 1986 live concert performance in London (a cover version of 'I AM CHANGING', from the broadway show Dreamgirls)
      She unleashes the FULL WEIGHT of her superhuman vocal prowess for over 10 minutes. It is a true vocal spectacle that NO-ONE can top. Luciano Pavorotti himself would approve. She gives you Broadway, operatic grandeur (both male tenor and female operatic head notes) and fiery gospel (her root) all in one earthquake/tsunami of a live performance.
      You MUST Set aside 15 mins of undivided attention, put your headphones in at full volume and take this roller-coaster thrill park ride of a vocal performance. You may need to sign a waiver first! It is THAT ridiculous and unreal. I'd love to hear your reaction after listening.
      Cheers! Be safe out there and have a happy blessed New Year 🥰😛🥳

    • @westfaner
      @westfaner 6 лет назад +7

      Again sort of stupid, because no they didn't have to play her, since she wasn't on their rotation lists. They played her because she had a hit on the charts and made the weekly countdown, but even then they didn't have to play her. This wasn't radio...

      @J Crash @westfaner artists from the era themselves will say they did... no one said they was the first but they was in HEAVY rotation and promoted as much as their white counterparts thats the point.. they was the leading faces.. its just how things go

    • @westfaner
      @westfaner 6 лет назад +7

      ogkush1916 The Heavy rotation barrier came down in 1983. MJ was the first black (male) March, Donna was the first black (female) August. Whitney didn't get played in Heavy rotation until mid january 1986 with How Will I Know, which was the 20th video by a black female artist to be placed in heavy rotation; 2 years and 5 months after Donna. By that time, Donna was the first to have 3 consecutive videos placed in Heavy rotation, The Pointer Sister and Tina Turner also had 3 consecutive videos placed in Heavy rotation, Tina did it twice having (6) videos in total, Pointer Sister (4), Sheila E had (2). Those are leading faces (black females) when it comes to breaking down the colour barrier on MTV. NOT Whitney Houston, Whitney also was not prominent on MTV. Her first 2 videos didn't get played on MTV, then she had 2 videos played on MTV. Then, it was 14 months before she had another video in rotation, videos for Didn't We Almost Have it All & One Moment In Time, were dropped after 2 weeks in rotation . Her 3rd album had the first video played on MTV (IYBT), the subsequent 4 videos (did make MTV's rotations list) were not played on MTV. It would be another 2 years before she had videos played on MTV. Tina Turner and Janet Jackson were prominent black female artist on MTV, like MJ, Madonna & Prince. That just how things went...

    So effortlessly ! This is why she is the greatest singer to ever exist . Even any singer will tell you that . No one can compare to nippy . NOBODY ! this right here (Which was a rehearsal) To hear that voice live on stage in all its wonder was truly something to witness. Actually, she sounded better live than she did on recordings, if you can imagine that. Live, she had more freedom to express her feelings, and she was able to improvise much more. And the power that came from her voice was amazing; in my opinion, the physical effort that she put into every performance was unequaled.
    It was said that on stage she never once complained that the drums were too loud or the band was too loud. And if it was, she would just sing over the band, or sing around the band. She had that kind of power and presence.🙌🏻🙌🏻
    . Whitney Houston had it all: Stage presence, vocal octave range ,insane phonetic power and control at mid to high chest vocalization, emotion-full diction and a physical beauty that was immensely complemented by her splendid resonance and timbre; all around she became what many people perceived as perfection. Sure, we had amazing singers at the time such as Mariah Carey but somehow all of these women, to a certain extent, lacked the emotion, the vehemence, and the powerful sheer that Whitney's voice was able to convey. Whitney Houston will be remembered as an anointed gift from nature to all humanity, one that we won't be able to experience anytime soon
    Whitney is a singer beyond compare. She is incomparable, her unique voice and style of singing is so far different from any other and the best VOICE of our time ...RIP #Queen 1963-2012 Whitney Houston

    Whitney could throw sharp shade yet also you knew she was very fair and loving too - and usually spot on with what she was saying.
    Her beauty, talented and charisma will simply never be matched. Some superstars will have longer careers - but she will simply never be touched in my opinion.
    I think often about the movies she would have made and could have made too. Miss her so much.

    She was a pioneer on MTV. She had a right to be bitter about its early period. Saving All My Love for You broke down the door for Sade and Anita Baker to become popular and then How Will I Know firmly established her on the channel and pop radio. She paid a big, heavy price just for the Brandys, Beyonces, Rihannas and Lizzos to be accepted.

    • @marchjoy7391
      @marchjoy7391 4 года назад +9

      Sade was played on MTV before Whtiney, Stop reading the lies on wikipedia ! Beyonce and Rihannas success is due to Donna Summer the first black female played in heavy rotation on MTV in August of 1983, she like Jackson for the males, had the first 2 videos by a black female in heavy rotation in 83. Whitney first video to make MTV rotation was How Will I Know - when placed in heavy rotation on January 15, 1986, it was the 20th video by a black female artist placed in heavy rotation.

    • @timmy841212
      @timmy841212 4 года назад +5

      @@marchjoy7391 Sade didn't have that many videos played on heavy rotation on MTV except for maybe Smooth Operator and every song from Love Deluxe. Donna Summer didn't have her videos played on MTV after 1984. Tina Turner was the only consistent black female act on MTV played on heavy rotation but her and Donna were considered rock artists. Whitney and Janet changed the game cause their videos were classified as R&B/pop/dance pop.
      We can all agree about Whitney not being the first. Doesn't mean she wasn't consistently on there and plus her being R&B/pop was a rarity on that channel.

      @@timmy841212 Donna Summer had Romeo played in medium rotation in May 1983, she was first black female to have her videos played in heavy rotation She Works Hard for the Money in August 83, Unconditional Love in Nov 83. Her 3rd consecutive video in HR There Goes My Baby in September 84. That set a precedent (that was broken by Janet Jackson in 1989) Deniece Williams (Lets Hear it for the Boy) had the 3rd video in June of 84, The Pointer Sister (Jump) 4th also in June. Then Tina Turner - What Love Got to do with It & Better Be Good. Sheila E with Glamorous Life. Donna and the Pointer Sister (I'm So Excited). Then MTV switch to top 40 format in November fo 1984. The colour barrier was gone and done. Whitney was no pioneer. And Sade also had a #1 album on the Billboard 200 before Whitney. In fact, 1986 was year of the women as dubbed by Billboard Patti Labelle and Janet Jackson also had # 1 albums that year (as far as black artist are concerned). Donna Summer wouldn't released another album for 3 years after 84 (she was definitely not considered Rock). You are correct, Tina Turner had all her videos played by the MTV (of course not all in HR), Janet was the only other black female that had her videos consistently played by MTV (like that of Prince, MJ & Madonna). Houston did not. Donna was played on MTV throughout the 80s, as they played her HBO "A Hot Summer's Night " concert repeatedly as the featured concert by a female artist.

    She was beautiful in this interview. Especially since 2001 was the year that she was too skinny and looked seriously ill. If Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown did not marry eachother I don´t think that Whitney would put Bobby in the same league as Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson. Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson was three huge artists that to this day still influences many upcoming artists. I don´t think that Bobby Brown on his own was as huge a superstar as Whitney, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince were.

      Bobby Brown (started. New Edition) he actually became the 🌟, it had the it factor. Bobby pretty good b4 Whitney. At that time Bobby Brown had more 💰 tha Whitney Houston.
      Had Bobby Brown not kept cheating & living so wild, he wouldn't have lost his sponsors. He started get in trouble with the law.

      I remember when Bobby Brown was a huge star. I think that when he married Whitney Houston and when their drug abuse became co-depended then I thought that they ruined each others careers, because people blamed Bobby Brown for Whitney Houstons drug addiction when it later became known that Whitney started her drug abuse early in the 1980´s when she took cocaine with her brother. I think that Bobby Brown in the early years of Whitneys career had more money to his name, but as Whitney Houstons star was rising with The Bodyguard movie then Bobby was a little forgotten as his personal life took over his career with his and Whitneys drug abuse and toxic relationship. So I take some of my words back from the original comment. :)
