How rare is it for someone to have the face and body of a supermodel and once in a lifetime voice? Not to mention her charismatic personality. There will never be another Whitney Houston
Once only. She was unique.
True. Absolute stunner all round.
NOT EVER
One of a kind ...
The one and only Ms Whitney Elizabeth Houston ❤
She was definitely throwing a lot of lowkey shade at MTV, right in front of MTV. 😂😂
Gotta love Whitney.
ThaShiznit: Those racist motherfuckers deserve every bit of it.
It wasn't low key at all. When Whitney shaded, it was real and unmistakable shade. Haha.
ThaShiznit yes she was. What a gift she was.
ThaShiznit I mean she will never be as big as MTV especially how it was back in the '80s with Michael Jackson and a lot of other artists. So, I don't blame her for throwing a little shade.
MTV were not racist, they played the Specials twice on their very first air date, and they played several black artist before MJ in 1983, became the first black artist to be placed in heavy rotation. She was not one of the first females to break through either. Donna Summer, The Pointer Sisters, Tina Turner, Shelia E, were among the first and had multiple videos played, and in heavy rotation as well.
Whitney threw all kinds of shade on MTV up in MTV's face. LOL!
And they know Whitney was absolutely right about every word she said!😄
@@ninamo7969 WRONG
So did David Bowie...it's weird..Music is music.
Lol without a f.. to give 😂
She did that.
"I love it when they have no choice." Gotta love Whitney, so eloquent, and she really speaks her mind.
“You have to be outstanding to break through the walls.”
They were MJ, Prince, Eddy Grant, Donna Summer, Herbie Hancock & Lionel Richie the black artists that were placed in Heavy Rotation on MTV in 1983.
She said it!!! And she looks so serious about it and secured besides she seemed to be detetmined to speak her mind...good for her and i miss her...#ripWH
...and she was outstanding
999% and she proved it her entire life...to break thos walls....
@@TruquiniTV LOL, she broke no walls or barriers. They had all come down long before she arrived.
@@marchjoy7391 it’s funny how out of that list of artist you name she’s sold the most records out of all of them except 1. ALL of the barriers definitely weren’t broken by 1985 otherwise she wouldn’t of had a hard time getting on.....(obviously)
Her strength, her shade, her complexity! Whitney was a character!
Ugh I love the way she talks. Her vocabulary, the cadence, the natural melody in how she speaks.
I LOVE Whitney she was so real.
real AF!!!
Thats why she and Mariah always get along.
When my insomnia rages, as it is tonight, I come and listen to her. Her voice never makes me fall asleep because she is so engaging- but it is so soothing - I will miss her and love her until my dying day.
She was well-loved beautiful person inside and out cannot help missing person like her
Omgosh same. I'm an insomniac and here I am. I was always a fan although at this time as a young kid I listened to rock, but I always admired and recognized Whitney. She was undeniable and very motherly too. Definitely had a soothing voice.
Same this is in my ASMR playlist
Oh 😭💫
Wow she was still stunning in 2001 love this interview, she seems like she had a good day, very candid and open but still her sweet self
I thought she looked pretty amazing up until her last years. The I look to you era she looked stunning in her photo shoots.
She was always very open in interviews focused on music and artistry. Whenever people would focus on her personal life that’s when she would shut it down
@@bryanalstoncoxing a?zzs
@@whitneyfan9019 In her Oprah interview she was glowing. I thought she was out of the woods.
Whitney was stunning until she died
Forgot how ridiculously beautiful she was.
What's more amazing is that her voice was more beautiful than even her physical beauty.
She looks absolutely beautiful here. She had a perfect face!
Not to mention that amazing voice
Yes very pretty lady she was
Yes!!! Perfectly beautiful!!! 😍
She was in fact deeply struggling here. Which tells you just how gifted this woman truly was. Model and singer (the best to ever live btw)
@@johnpalermo4466 she wasn't but okay......
She looked stunning. She really looked like this was late 1998. I love it!
I never knew how intelligent she was. I am mesmerized
Super intelligent and razor sharp. She did say she wanted to be a teacher (had she not made it as a singer) so it makes sense.
I want to share what I think is her most phenomenal, most powerful and most exhausting (in a great way) love performance. It's a 1986 live concert performance in London (a cover version of 'I AM CHANGING', from the broadway show Dreamgirls)
She unleashes the FULL WEIGHT of her superhuman vocal prowess for over 10 minutes. It is a true vocal spectacle that NO-ONE can top. Luciano Pavorotti himself would approve. She gives you Broadway, operatic grandeur (both male tenor and female operatic head notes) and fiery gospel (her root) all in one earthquake/tsunami of a live performance.
You MUST Set aside 15 mins of undivided attention, put your headphones in at full volume and take this roller-coaster thrill park ride of a vocal performance. You may need to sign a waiver first! It is THAT ridiculous and unreal. I'd love to hear your reaction after listening.
Cheers! Be safe out there and have a happy blessed New Year 🥰😛🥳

Whitney was extremely intelligent and well spoken, especially when she talks about music. Her best interviews were when people would ask her about music and the industry. She was a brilliant musician and one of the best to ever hit the stage
Great interview! Definitely one of her realest, and most opinionated interviews. She had a lot to say and elaborate on. And didn't hold back. Love when she said she loves it when they have NO CHOICE but to play her and not deny her. She really took pride in that and that point.
Again sort of stupid, because no they didn't have to play her, since she wasn't on their rotation lists. They played her because she had a hit on the charts and made the weekly countdown, but even then they didn't have to play her. This wasn't radio...
@J Crash @westfaner artists from the era themselves will say they did... no one said they was the first but they was in HEAVY rotation and promoted as much as their white counterparts thats the point.. they was the leading faces.. its just how things go
ogkush1916 The Heavy rotation barrier came down in 1983. MJ was the first black (male) March, Donna was the first black (female) August. Whitney didn't get played in Heavy rotation until mid january 1986 with How Will I Know, which was the 20th video by a black female artist to be placed in heavy rotation; 2 years and 5 months after Donna. By that time, Donna was the first to have 3 consecutive videos placed in Heavy rotation, The Pointer Sister and Tina Turner also had 3 consecutive videos placed in Heavy rotation, Tina did it twice having (6) videos in total, Pointer Sister (4), Sheila E had (2). Those are leading faces (black females) when it comes to breaking down the colour barrier on MTV. NOT Whitney Houston, Whitney also was not prominent on MTV. Her first 2 videos didn't get played on MTV, then she had 2 videos played on MTV. Then, it was 14 months before she had another video in rotation, videos for Didn't We Almost Have it All & One Moment In Time, were dropped after 2 weeks in rotation . Her 3rd album had the first video played on MTV (IYBT), the subsequent 4 videos (did make MTV's rotations list) were not played on MTV. It would be another 2 years before she had videos played on MTV. Tina Turner and Janet Jackson were prominent black female artist on MTV, like MJ, Madonna & Prince. That just how things went...
@@westfaner that's all in 1983. Whitney was talking about the period before 1983. However, I was a teen in Brooklyn, and we had MTV on day and night and we watch mainly because of Whitney and Michael. Her first video on MTV was You Give Good Love in and we ran to the livingroom everytime it came on. She was so different from anyone else that was out there, so yes she was groundbreaking.
and you forgot about Saving all my love for you.
Very rarely you see a person at Whitneys level praising other people`s talents this way. That says a lot about her personality and how generous she was to others. She Didnt feel threatened at all.
Absolutely!!
Yep!👍🏽
And that is part of what made her so great. As good and confident as she was in her own ability she was still able to genuinely appreciate others. True confidence tampered by true humility will always be outstanding. IMO a person like that can always be inspired afresh and never fall into the trap of comparison that (especially in the arts) has the tendency to kill creativity and growth.
She had her own league of course she was not threatened🙄... Like who on earth can touch Whitney's talent? :)) No one! so of course she was confident!
@@geoseason5800 You definitely have not seen Aretha interviews then lol
@@AngeBiampandou I have seen her, but to this day Whitney is untouchable!

Not only talented. But very insightful. Makes you wonder how it all unfolded.
She was so tough! A lioness
A true Leo. 🦁♌
She was so beautiful and energetic in this video. its too bad, she couldn't defeat her demons. Miss u Whitney.
She was so real. I miss Whitney Houston 💕
"We weren't going to accept fake singing." "It shouldn't take opening you legs and giving us tits and ass to be accepted".... Oh Whitney. IF ONLY that was still the case today!!!
There aren't enough classy ladies like this in pop anymore. She is much missed.
!!!!!
I really love ...her voice, diction, pronunciation are great....very intelligent
Same here!! Definitely ain’t no Cardi B 🙄
Genius. That’s why she got high. To escape the genius.
She's so real and very blunt Whitney Houston gave no fucks she says whatever with no Filter
Rip to the legend 💯💯💯🙏🙏🏿🙏
I love this interview! Displays the things I love about WH: sass, grace, intelligence and wit. But her throat really sounds sore here...
G G if you've been singing for over ten years I guess your voice is affected.

Dried up from all the crack
I loved the kindness with which she spoke about King George Michael, Martha Wash, and Michael Jackson. Whitney knew she had God-given talent, just like Mariah and that's why all those artist appreciated each other and their music. Whitney will always be missed. Gorgeous and super mega talented.
Mariah Carey had god given talent?

Mariah does have God given talent

R.I.P. Queen [*]
Whitney was speaking all truths! She almost looked like she was over these questions 😂

Thanks for posting this. Just to give you younger crowd a bit more of context, in 2001 MTV released a huge special for MTV's 21st anniversary where they went through the history of the channel, pop music and music videos up to that point. There were appearances by guest stars like Mariah and Whitney, and this whole interview is where MTV got all the Whitney appearances from. I wish I could watch Mariah's interview.
That’s my heart!! I just love everything about her. Whitney had the class, the sass, the latent, and the beauty. I love shady Whitney lol, she would read you and you probably not even know it
I just love her speaking voice. Just love to hear her talk lol
David Bowie is credited as being one of the first (if not the first) white artists to pressure MTV to showcase black artists on MTV. There were no color lines for David Bowie. I applaud him for this.
Very true story. He was willing to pull his work if they did not start playing the BIGGEST artists of that time
@@ImStep-by-Step this statement makes no sense, michael was not the biggest artist when the refused to play him, he gained exposure from them (and vice versa) and THEN became the biggest ever
@@amiramir-qg7xv LMAO - you’re severely miseducated! SEVERELY!! You don’t need to respond.
Love watching her old interviews.♥️ We still have pieces of her with us forever 😍
She hated during interviews lol. She always kept it so real. It sucks that bc don’t really know that’s she’s normally jittery, and outspoken, an they mistake her for being high
You can look at her early interviews and see that. She didn't do her interviews high. Not even in the interview where she cussed Wendy Williams out or when she did the Diane Sawyer interview even though people think they know what goes on in someone's life because of gossip.
Love Whitney ....... she is such an AWESOME person. Thanks for your music, we love you.
So effortlessly ! This is why she is the greatest singer to ever exist . Even any singer will tell you that . No one can compare to nippy . NOBODY ! this right here (Which was a rehearsal) To hear that voice live on stage in all its wonder was truly something to witness. Actually, she sounded better live than she did on recordings, if you can imagine that. Live, she had more freedom to express her feelings, and she was able to improvise much more. And the power that came from her voice was amazing; in my opinion, the physical effort that she put into every performance was unequaled.
It was said that on stage she never once complained that the drums were too loud or the band was too loud. And if it was, she would just sing over the band, or sing around the band. She had that kind of power and presence.🙌🏻🙌🏻
. Whitney Houston had it all: Stage presence, vocal octave range ,insane phonetic power and control at mid to high chest vocalization, emotion-full diction and a physical beauty that was immensely complemented by her splendid resonance and timbre; all around she became what many people perceived as perfection. Sure, we had amazing singers at the time such as Mariah Carey but somehow all of these women, to a certain extent, lacked the emotion, the vehemence, and the powerful sheer that Whitney's voice was able to convey. Whitney Houston will be remembered as an anointed gift from nature to all humanity, one that we won't be able to experience anytime soon
Whitney is a singer beyond compare. She is incomparable, her unique voice and style of singing is so far different from any other and the best VOICE of our time ...RIP #Queen 1963-2012 Whitney Houston
❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🎵🎶🎼🎶🎵
I love me some Whitney! Elegance, beauty, class, talent and down to earth on a real tip wrapped into one. 💞 this interview rocks! She let them have it 😊
Bobby Brown was popular but he was not on the same level as Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson. I know why she felt the need to say that to make him feel that he was on her level of fame. Otherwise, great interview, very insightful, critical and intelligent on the music industry.
I love her smile
Whitney don’t play. The way she tells it like it is with a smile. Skills 👍
Wonderful interview. Thank you for paving the way and breaking down doors! We miss you!
I love this, and how blunt she is over B.S. that went on that shouldn't have.
I miss her 😭
Whitney is beautiful, articulate and just handled the interview so well!!!!
Whitney could throw sharp shade yet also you knew she was very fair and loving too - and usually spot on with what she was saying.
Her beauty, talented and charisma will simply never be matched. Some superstars will have longer careers - but she will simply never be touched in my opinion.
I think often about the movies she would have made and could have made too. Miss her so much.
This is literally everything! 🔥🖤
All her points FLY with us in 2021 yes queen!!!!
Why are they asking her so much about George Michel? I know they did a song together but wtf have these questions to do with Whitney?!
Still a great upload..rare..and Whitney looked beautiful.
They asked her about George Michael because he was and still is a huge pop star and they entered the pop scene about the same time, so he is very much her colleague...Plus they did a song together "If I Told You That".
Dutchmusicfan1992 the white man has to feel like he's number one.
I’m pretty sure this was for a 20th anniversary special MTV did, considering it was recorded in 2001 and MTV first aired in 1981. That’s probably why she got asked about George Michael and Michael Jackson among others.
He might've been making a comeback then following his bathroom scandal.
I thought the same.. c'mon.
#WhitneyHouston The #GREATSINGER😘😘😘😘
THE BEAUTIFUL WHITNEY HOUSTON!!!!! WE MISS YOU SO
Whitney would be ashamed of female artists today. She died at the peak of the madness
Nicki lol
It’s crazy how y’all to degrade Nicki every time y’all give compliments to other female artists, and Whitney loved Nicki before she died FYI
@@Meko_tah I didn't say anything about nicki. Whitney said the costumes were demonic. Nicki was one of the artist at that time wearing weird costumes.
I respect nicki. And I don't know whitney and nicki relationship but if true that's nice to know.
What does Nicki have to do with anything?
D. Brown Nicki wasn’t even out of high school when this interview was on TV
The fact that Nicki had nothing to do with this-
Whitney’s face card was valid af
Donna Summers was the first black female video played on MTV. She works hard for the money was the video....
Love her, miss her. She always spoke the truth, and you could see it in her eyes, her expressions, and then she would flash that beautiful smile of hers. Lol love it. ❤️
Lol why she keep throwing Bobby Brown in there with the "greats", she had to know MJ, and Bobby brown not even in the same category
Right... not even close🤣
She wanted to lift him up. It's sad. Bobby wouldn't have been on MTV without Whitney.
We forget Bobby was a big star 1988-1990 . My Progative was one of the best selling albums of the 80's.
We are talking about artist from beginning and huge black artist would be Micheal Jackson, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince, Tina Turner. Bobby was not of that caliber.
Bobby is not of the same caliber of Whitney, George Michael, MJ, Tina Turner. As a solo artist he had a successful career for 3 or 4 years. Bobby was never an international star.
Legend.
Is it me or can Whitney talk thru a song and her voice still resonates!!!
I always loved how Whitney spoke🌹
I like how she mentions Tina!
Great interview, the interviewer asked interesting questions, kept my attention and Whitney is beautiful as always.
She was looking SO beautiful with this bob
@Ed Miller Still a bob. What's your point?
@Ed Miller Wig or not who cares?! (Apart from you of course) She was still beautiful! Famous women of all colours wear wigs, extensions or hairpieces! Joan Collins, Dolly Parton, the Kardashian sisters etc. She was still beautiful and talented and very much missed by her fans.

BOBBY BOBBY BOBBY... That's when you're in love 😂😂
The amount of story her voice put in the lyrics 🔥🔥
“I couldn’t get on” 🎯🎯🎯
Love this lady
Baby… Whitney was in her right mind because she said all the right things!!!!!
She was a pioneer on MTV. She had a right to be bitter about its early period. Saving All My Love for You broke down the door for Sade and Anita Baker to become popular and then How Will I Know firmly established her on the channel and pop radio. She paid a big, heavy price just for the Brandys, Beyonces, Rihannas and Lizzos to be accepted.
Sade was played on MTV before Whtiney, Stop reading the lies on wikipedia ! Beyonce and Rihannas success is due to Donna Summer the first black female played in heavy rotation on MTV in August of 1983, she like Jackson for the males, had the first 2 videos by a black female in heavy rotation in 83. Whitney first video to make MTV rotation was How Will I Know - when placed in heavy rotation on January 15, 1986, it was the 20th video by a black female artist placed in heavy rotation.
@@marchjoy7391 Sade didn't have that many videos played on heavy rotation on MTV except for maybe Smooth Operator and every song from Love Deluxe. Donna Summer didn't have her videos played on MTV after 1984. Tina Turner was the only consistent black female act on MTV played on heavy rotation but her and Donna were considered rock artists. Whitney and Janet changed the game cause their videos were classified as R&B/pop/dance pop.
We can all agree about Whitney not being the first. Doesn't mean she wasn't consistently on there and plus her being R&B/pop was a rarity on that channel.
@@marchjoy7391 yea but let's not forget that MTV DID NOT WANT TO PLAY BLACK ARTIST WHO was AT THE TOP OF THE CHARTS BACK THEN! I watched MTV as a kid in the 80s. It was a butch of bullshit with no soul being played for white kids with the exception of Sade, Donna Summer. Name the other black women in heavy rotation back then?
@@timmy841212 let that fool know
@@timmy841212 Donna Summer had Romeo played in medium rotation in May 1983, she was first black female to have her videos played in heavy rotation She Works Hard for the Money in August 83, Unconditional Love in Nov 83. Her 3rd consecutive video in HR There Goes My Baby in September 84. That set a precedent (that was broken by Janet Jackson in 1989) Deniece Williams (Lets Hear it for the Boy) had the 3rd video in June of 84, The Pointer Sister (Jump) 4th also in June. Then Tina Turner - What Love Got to do with It & Better Be Good. Sheila E with Glamorous Life. Donna and the Pointer Sister (I'm So Excited). Then MTV switch to top 40 format in November fo 1984. The colour barrier was gone and done. Whitney was no pioneer. And Sade also had a #1 album on the Billboard 200 before Whitney. In fact, 1986 was year of the women as dubbed by Billboard Patti Labelle and Janet Jackson also had # 1 albums that year (as far as black artist are concerned). Donna Summer wouldn't released another album for 3 years after 84 (she was definitely not considered Rock). You are correct, Tina Turner had all her videos played by the MTV (of course not all in HR), Janet was the only other black female that had her videos consistently played by MTV (like that of Prince, MJ & Madonna). Houston did not. Donna was played on MTV throughout the 80s, as they played her HBO "A Hot Summer's Night " concert repeatedly as the featured concert by a female artist.
I missed Whitney's spirit and now many of the great artist of the 80's and 90's are gone too soon. Whitney, Michael, Prince, and George Michael.
May your soul rest in peace, together with your baby girl ❤️🌈
Whitney is so legendary and powerful in this interview, absolutely she's a queen of ballad!

Keeping it out right real!! Like au real G!
This is one of the best interviews both for MTV and Whitney in her career. Icon
She was gassing up Bobby's career. That's loyalty right there!!
She gave a lot of meaningful view points
Whitney your great talent eclipsed the rest during your time . Your a Great lady , great voice, great personality. The real deal . Whitney your an all time legend .😊
She looks and sounds very very good for 2001 - compare this with her BET performance. Poor Whitney rip
I love it when they have no choice just like the country station had no choice to play Texas Hold ‘Em by Beyond only hours after they said they wouldn’t & wished her luck with her new country album 😩🤣🤣🤣🤣
How this beautiful intelligent and gifted woman felt in the trap of this scam Bobbi and destroyed herself...rip Whitney
Her personality is something else 😂😂
She was so real!!! Hands down to women like her.
But hey, i love how she looks in How Will I Know 😊 its just too funny that she thinks otherwise. :D
Janet Jackson also paved the way for black artist to get played on MTV. Let's not forget that Jackson Jackson became a popular music star in 1986. Whitney Houston didn't get noticed until the How I know video in 1985/ 1986

Hopefully she , George, Prince and Michael are all clean and jamming together
She was beautiful in this interview. Especially since 2001 was the year that she was too skinny and looked seriously ill. If Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown did not marry eachother I don´t think that Whitney would put Bobby in the same league as Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson. Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson was three huge artists that to this day still influences many upcoming artists. I don´t think that Bobby Brown on his own was as huge a superstar as Whitney, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince were.
Bobby Brown (started. New Edition) he actually became the 🌟, it had the it factor. Bobby pretty good b4 Whitney. At that time Bobby Brown had more 💰 tha Whitney Houston.
Had Bobby Brown not kept cheating & living so wild, he wouldn't have lost his sponsors. He started get in trouble with the law.
I remember when Bobby Brown was a huge star. I think that when he married Whitney Houston and when their drug abuse became co-depended then I thought that they ruined each others careers, because people blamed Bobby Brown for Whitney Houstons drug addiction when it later became known that Whitney started her drug abuse early in the 1980´s when she took cocaine with her brother. I think that Bobby Brown in the early years of Whitneys career had more money to his name, but as Whitney Houstons star was rising with The Bodyguard movie then Bobby was a little forgotten as his personal life took over his career with his and Whitneys drug abuse and toxic relationship. So I take some of my words back from the original comment. :)
The best a voice ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🇧🇷
I HATE that she deflects to Bobby Brown.
There are so many shadey Gifs that can be made in this video lol her faces are hilarious I LOVE WHITNEY
