This is Gold, I'm a proficent engine swapper and am itching to get into an EV project, this video feels like the first well pitched, well paced video on YT that i can follow and understand. Keep it coming please. Excellent stuff :)
Really good videos, keep up the good work! Also, Damien, please emphasis in next video that if one chooses to go with multiple IGBTs (like 4+ smaller and cheaper ones) for higher power, they have to do a lot on load balancing, or thermal runaway will play a dirty trick on them :) Also one would need to take in consideration gate charge and how much power driver circuit would have to provide for given setup! I did that mistake when was building my first controller on 6x 400amp IGBTs :(
Damien do you mind telling me how you connected your tachometer sensor to your e36 cluster? Is it possible to use existing loom wiring in the engine bay or did you have to solder to the back of the cluster directly?
Thanks Damien. Enjoying the re education. Love the new slants on motor control. Hopefully you will do loads more of motor controlller videos. Keep it up
Good video Damien, You are an Garage EV wizard! keep up the good work and I’m working on the Nova, using some of your methods. I’m going the cheap battery route with deep cycle marine lead acid battery’s. Your video where you tested the BMW with no motor controller was great! had a good laugh and I’m gonna do the same to test my Monster motor
so the miller affect is residual charge it the system after the switch is turned off? Could their be some kind of a multi contact switch that deals with the residual energy in the off position, so that the motor can spin more freely and have less Arc on each pulse?
Excellent Excellent wot a ripper another thumbs up gotta get myself one of those . Gotta put your sticker on the side of my ev once it's finished of thankyou again for the knowledge.
Hi it's Jeffery from Blackpool I think wot you or doing is helpful and appreciat the time and effort you or putting in to your videos thank you I am struggling to keep my Gwiz on the road and struggling to charger it up I live in a tent in the back of a van so reliy on charger points but in Blackpool there is now were to charge even if I'm willing to pay if you have eney ideas I would appreciate your thoughts
Awesome video Damien! As someone who knows absolutely nothing about how to make a motor controller (especially on a cheap budget) this helps allot! Also the more videos the better!
Just fell upon your channel and I’m already into this the second video of yours that I’ve viewed at 2am. Love what you’re doing, especially with the tight budget you’re working with. Will be interesting to see how you progress. Great work. You’re the Aldi to Elon’s Waitrose.
Just watched all 7 episodes in a row. so interesting. Love the thought of a cheap conversion to EV and love the E36. Im mad about cars and have done a few engine swaps in my time but a conversion to electric will be a dream conversion from now on. P.s. I have a mk1 fiesta in need of an engine swap down in cork if you fancy doing an edd china on it! :-L
HI Damian, Dave from BasicMicroUK here, I would like to order 10 of the gate driver PCB's from you, once you get the parts list sorted we would be happy to offet a parts kit for these controllers, just a note we have the Fuji 2MBI600U2E-060 IGBT in stock and we can offer these at £150/pair to your followers, Great work yet again and a very interesting project
I love this kind of video, I don't really like videos that have half the video of someone writing code! But putting components together, and explanation , I love it, I'm not to the point where I'm ready to write code, I just learned to write my name, I need a few, before I'm ready to write code haha! 😀😆.... I totally want to build a few controllers, I want dumb controllers, I don't need any programmable controller, I just need a 'ON' switch, and a '''GO!''' pedal!... Maybe the rate of speed change to pedal input ratio adjustability, maybe the use of two pots parallel could do that on a dumb controller, that will allow more pedal input in the start, to get a small output , then more output as there is more output, any idea?
www.ebay.com.au/itm/173695018865 Found this on ebay, it cost a little more then what I can get 2x of the IGBT’s for, would it be a suitable option? There is also a 300a model for less power but cheaper.

16:13 Those wire colors though! It disturbs me on a very deep level.

What extremely cool videos, thank you so much for sharing!! Love your sarcasm aimed at the trolls btw.
Had to go back to 8:40 to check I'd heard you correctly saying about "disassembling Stephanie" 😄 Johnny 5 reference? 😄

having the 12v cable with the othr battery cables is not interfering?
Why a fuse in the negative of the 12v battery, not in the positive wire?
Excellent Excellent wot a ripper another thumbs up gotta get myself one of those . Gotta put your sticker on the side of my ev once it's finished of thankyou again for the knowledge.
Another Great session ...Thanks.
Just going back...how many kw is your 9inch forklift motor rated at for this project?...Thanks Tony

What are the value of the snubber caps used?
can you give us a parts list to build this controller
I love it, "You can actually smell the starter"
I too am planning an EV project with a 190E mecedes and a 48vdc forklift motor. I would welcome any advice I can gain.

can i have the parts list and schematics for the dc motor controller ?

Are you offering the part kits? I see the IGBTs listed on your ebay store for £174.99 each
What are the specs on the snubber film capacitors?
egraf is a nice product for thermal interfacing. less messy and more homogenous
Great video, couldn't wait to get home from work to watch video. Keep up the great work!
Hi Damien, do you do comercial conversions for others? I have a bmw e46 I would like to have converted...
I am kind of at a loss of how you reduce ring down bounce, while at the same time stopping Miller capacitance from blowing your transisters
Wish I could like about a dozen times, very good video!
Thanks for the controller lesson
Not 100 % excited with the clearance between the bus bars, but well is what the IGBTs terminal pitch allow..
Yeah that makes me a bit nervous tbh
I love your videos Damien. Both for content and your humour. Very appreciated. My favourite channel on you tube.
Great stuff Damien!
can you sell mounted PCD ?

Can i buy the components from you? We are having trouble finding all of them.
Thanks for the videos damien
So it's about 50% loss of energy right?
I would just switch battery cells so no loss as no heatsink needed.
Brilliant
That's the most pleasant sound I've ever heard....
Give a thought to using a microphone.
Good project. Very informarive . Do you build pcb's your self or design and order them from custom pcb maker?
A bit of both
I wish I knew more about electronics
Thanks for the videos. When are you going to upload the PCB files to GitHub?
github.com/damienmaguire/DC-Motor-Controller
love EVs.
Thanks for sharing
Awesome for sharing, love the theory and practical, top work, top chap.
fascinating
Hey man are from Cork? I would Love to see that car, I'll give you a spin on my 3.3kw bicycle. i love death machines!
Can I just pay you to ship me a working controller? 200v 1000amps for warP 9 thanks
I don't think I could do it in a reasonable budget for you.
How much? Also are you going to build or buy a charge controller?
www.ebay.com.au/itm/173695018865

i like tis guy tat was dangeus and vey steesful on te moto diect battey power
This is so awesome, thanks for showing us, You're the man!
You are the best .
You clearly know electronics.
Has anyone built this controller besides damien
Beach Boys lyrics, not quite right; video excellent!
Why can't all the videos I watch be neutral as this one. Can't we all just get along?
8k switching hurts my ears what about 16k
Bad idea with these parts:)

@@Evbmw What specs are the film snubber capacitors ... i cant find any info on them , thanks.
