Glad I saw this video. Had recently noticed that my Ledger Live transaction history showed different Bitcoin addresses and even though I saw my total balance that I had accumulated over time. I was slightly nervous that maybe I had somehow been sending to different addresses by mistake 😅

Yes, as long as you are still using the same account. All previous addresses will still work, no matter how old. If you are unsure, then do a small test transaction first.

Hello. I just viewed your short about time period for Bitcoin. I made a transaction in July 7th at a low rate and I am still waiting. The part that I don’t understand is why the transaction date keeps changing. At the 30 day mark, the date changed to August 4th, then last night I noticed the transaction date changed to August 28. I really need this transaction to go through. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Rex, just a question. Is it possible to fully empty out ur wallets on the ledger (e.g. balance 0)? or do you need to calculate roughly to leave enough to cover the transaction fee? (e.g. if the fee calculated is 20usd, so u leave behind 30-50usd just in case) how does this work exactly?
Idk about ledger specifically, but most wallets will include the tx fee in the total amount you're willing to send. So if you try to send the maximum amount in the wallet, that maximum will usually be minus the tx fee required to send it

Hi CD, I was watching videos on protecting your bitcoin from quantum computing, and they said the best practice is to only use an address once, so the address or signature doesn't appear on the blockchain. I don't understand what that means, especially after watching your video. All your addresses are still appearing on the blockchain, even if you just created it and made once transaction. Do you know what they are talking about? How can you create an address, and use it once, and not have that address appear on the chain?

If I receive btc on wallet address A, then get a new address (address B), then send the bitcoin i received on address A to an external wallet, will the transaction show that i sent the btc from address A or from address B?
Is there any way to send from a specific address when sending BTC or does ledger just pick addresses at random?
You can continue to send to previous addresses as many times as you'd like. But there is no way to send from a specific address. There is no way to specify the "send from" address. I went through my transaction list, and it does appear to be based on the latest receiving address that you've generated. And it appears to stay the same until you generate a new receiving address. But I can't be totally sure if that's exactly how it works. You might want to examine your transaction lists to confirm this.
Thank you, that was very helpful! I do have one question though. Do other cryptos do the same thing? I have had some addresses generated by an exchange not match my receiving address when sending to a wallet therefore making me reluctant to send. I thought that before you send you should always verify that the address you pasted in to the exchange matches the receiving address in your wallet. If it changes is that a function of the exchange changing the address for your privacy or the crypto itself like what you pointed out with BTC? It has happened on Coinbase and Gemini a number of times when sending other cryptos besides BTC. Thanks so much for your expertise!
An exchange should never change an address that you have pasted in from your clipboard. It should be the same as when you copied it. If it is changing when you past it in, then there is something wrong. You might want to run a virus or malware check on your computer.
If you are referring to the difference in format between depot addresses and your withdraw addresses, most exchanges still use legacy or segwit address formats (start with a 1 or 3) whereas ledger uses the current native segwit format that stars with bc1. most exchanges support Native Segwit withdrawals, even if deposit addresses use the older format.
If you feel that something does not feel right when trying to withdraw certain altcoins, always try a small test transaction first to verify.

If you're concerned about privacy, rest assured that Coinbase generates a new address for you each time you receive or send funds, so third-parties can not easily track your future transactions. Also, you can generate a new address for any of your Coinbase assets at any time here.
Multiple times the last letter of my receiving address was changed from a small to a large cap letter. I was finally brave enough to go ahead and send a small amount and it worked!😅I was just wondering if Gemini does the same thing because in a similar situation the last several digits were different than my receiving address. However, that time I didn’t take a chance. I haven’t found a similar explanation for Gemini that I did for Coinbase yet. Thanks for your time. I appreciate it!👍
@@paqua3135 OK so I see now that you’re talking about making deposits. And yes I believe that most of the exchanges are implementing the same policy. I guess it depends on the crypto. For example my Binance US account has always generated the same Ethereum address for my Ethereum and ERC 20 deposits. It has not changed in months. Also my BNB deposit address is the same one it was for almost a year now, (including the memo address). I guess there might be other crypto‘s that might change the address periodically. That’s why you should never reuse deposit addresses when you’re sending crypto from your wallet to an exchange. Always generate a new deposit address every time just to be on the safe side.
I have also noticed that my Coinbase deposit addresses change quite often. I don’t think my Coinbase account ever uses the same deposit address even for Ethereum.

Yes, I have noticed that cryptocurrency exchanges keep the same deposit address for a while. Perhaps it just makes it easier for them. However, they reserved the right to change the deposit address anytime they want to. So, It's always a good idea to confirm the address of a transfer every time anyway.

There are many good wallets out there. Mostly depends on personal preference. I like the Ledger Nano X Hardware wallet. It has a good balance between security and usability.

The actual interesting question would be how does a wallet know which addresses belong to you?
They are derived mathematically(cryptography) from your public key.

Bitcoin do not generate any adress , your Ledger Live did it.

This person is obviously a scammer. Cut off all contact with them. Buy your Crypto on a regulated exchange like Coinbase, Kraken, or Gemini

You would decide that. When you transfer from your own wallet, ledger does not divide up the transaction like an Exchange does.
If you want to create multiple wallets within ledger live, you can split up large transfers manually, but this is not really necessary. The only reason Exchanges do this is because they are managing multiple user accounts.
I sent my Bitcoin funds to my friends wallet but now the funds transferred to a new wallet leaving my balance at 0.000 we never sent it to a new wallet. My friends account is frozen so how can the funds be transferred when he has a 30 day hold.

Sounds like your friend got scammed. I'm not sure what kind of wallet your friend has or what kind of account this friend has but obviously don't send any more crypto to it. And once crypto has been transferred out, there's no way to recover it. Sorry for the bad news.
@@CryptoDad I sent funds from my Bitcoin wallet to his wallet and the funds stayed there for 3 weeks in the blockchain. When his Ledger account is frozen we don't understand how the funds can be moved without are consent.
