Though this was a fictional death, It hit home as much as any real death ever has, And the ideology behind his life and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
I'm sorry to say it, but killing Dumbledore was one of Rowling's more genius moves. He was the security blanket of the whole story, and if he was around everyone felt safe, if he was gone, chaos would erupt and the world would seem much more dark and desolate then it did before. The only way for Harry to succeed was knowing he had to do it alone, and Dumbledore's death brought him to that very realization.

Dumbledore watched her fly away,and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape,and his eyes were full of tears. "After all this time?" "Always."
