  • How to Move Files and Folders in Windows 11 [Guide]
Windows 11 and Windows 10 offer a variety of ways to move Files and Folders from one location to another. To move a file or a folder means to change its current location to the desired location, without creating any identical copy of the file of the folder. The most common way to move files or folders is to drag and drop them to the destination. However, we will learn more ways to do so.
    Issues addressed in this tutorial:

    can't move folder windows 10
Windows offers many ways to copy and move files. We’ll show you all the tricks for File Explorer, and how to use them in Command Prompt and PowerShell. You can even add “Copy to” and “Move to” to File Explorer’s context menus.
When you copy a file or folder in Windows 10, a duplicate is made of the selected item and saved in a destination folder of your choosing. However, when you move a file or folder, the original item moves to the destination folder instead of sending an identical copy.
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Alienware, Razer, MSI, Huawei , Microsoft Surface, and Samsung.

I'm sorry this is totally unnecessary. What group of people in Microsoft decided to remove the MOVE option and have to do this to move a file or folder to another place? I just wasted 4 minutes listening to nothing. How simple was the old and now deleted MOVE function?

I feel you. The last couple of years I was essentially forced to use a Macbook for specific school assignments, so I haven't been using a Windows system in a while. I felt silly having to look up a video on this due to not being able to find the 'Move' tool that I was so accustomed to in the past. That, and the fact that when you drag files from one folder to another on Mac, it at least allows you to go into the subfolders by hovering over a parent folder. I've been touting for years how much better the 'Move' tool is on PC for quick organization and now here I am finding out that it no longer exists. Overengineering at its finest when something is changed for the sake of change.

I would just like to have the "move" option back in the list with cut, copy, and paste. That saved me steps. :/ not happy with having that choice eliminated from a so-called better version of Windows. It's like it regressed.

Unfortunately, every time a new version or update of something comes out it seems like it loses its functionality more than the last time lol

Totally! I can't believe they got rid of the move option! Every upgrade is a downgrade now... same with Adobe Acrobat.

I agree. This is awful. I want my move option back. There must be a way to get it back. My next internet hunt. Unfortunately this video just showed how complicated and difficult it is to simply move a file from one folder to another.

Why did Microsoft have to make such a simple thing more complicated? This is better than simply having the "move" option? One click and done. I thought I was stupid but apparently it's Microsoft who is

Lol, I'm right there with ya. Overengineering because someone wanted to change it for the sake of change. I haven't been using Windows in a while, so I felt silly having to look up a video on this due to not being able to find the 'Move' tool. I've been praising Windows for years for having better file management tools only to find out now that it's been removed or changed.

They change the name into "cut" instead of "move" , so if you are trying to move a file just click the file then click the cut icon once, after that go to the file you want then paste it, hope it helps.
