    With this recording method you'll always record with latency. To lower the buffer size won't solve that problem. The only possible way to record without latency is the following: Dublicate your audio track (with all vst you need for your sound). Set the first track to "Auto" and the second to "Off". Be sure to arm both tracks before recording. Hit record and play tight! After that you can delete track one. Track two was recorded without latency. Voila!

      This is silly, because the Auto track will have audible latency. Use direct monitoring to keep track of your timing, and record to a channel that is "off". Bonus points if you use UAD products and can use plugins while direct monitoring/recording ;)

      If you're still wondering make sure you're using an asio driver as your setting in ableton, if your interface doesn't have one or you are using the computer's onboard audio, download and install a free driver called asio4all (for PC at least) and select that in your ableton settings, also if your interface allows it use direct monitoring (sometimes called zero latency monitoring), that will get rid of latency virtually completely

      You may have some latency if you have any audio effects on the track you are recording on. Sometimes disabling them entirely isn’t enough to bring that latency down. Thank you so much for this video.
    How do you get 0 overall latency ? Im really struggling to find an audio interface that is under 150$ but with the ability to have low latency and have the CUE routed to headphones. All other videos and forums say that you can get it as low as 10 ms which is still bad for live use. The cheapest i could find with separate headphones cue, is the behringer 204 but im really afraid that whatever I get will still not be good enough for live use. Is it something that can be fixed? How did you get that 0 overall latency ?
    Thanks again

    • @PhaseLoop
      @PhaseLoop  5 лет назад +5

      Stephanos Philippou thanks for this question Stephanos! Your question brings up some good problems and I plan to make a part 2 video on more advanced latency solutions. It depends what you are looking to do however. If you would like to monitor a live instrument directly, many interfaces will allow you to use Direct Monitoring on the hardware to bypass the Ableton and listen to the signals going into the interface with zero latency. However if you would like to add FXs and processing and Ableton and still use the headphone cue in Ableton, you need an interface that allows you to route multiple outputs to your headphone jack. I use the iConnectivity Audio 4+ because it allows me to do a variety of custom input/output routings for live shows. However, this method is still subject to adding a small bit of latency (within 10ms depending on the FXs.)
      Be sure to stick around for part 2 soon or send me a message. I’ll be covering more advanced topics in that! Cheers

    Hi ! Thx for the video, i have an another solution for less delay ! If you use external instrument on midi track with the good rooting ! There is less delay on your record but use 2tracks on your deck (1 midi track and 1 audio track with input from midi track created before, groupe them and rename
    Perfect if you have a lot gears !
    External instrument is more stable that recording directly, I think.

    How did you record that loop without having to press the stop button? If anyone can let me know.. looks like a useful trick. Thanks
