    Dan is the Bob Ross of audio.
    The sheer amount of knowledge and the way he breaks down complex concepts in simple explanations and make it seem intuitive once you grasp the "why"s... It´s just beautiful to witness a human being so passionate about his craft.

    I just had an minor epiphany when Dan was talking about the fundamental note of the snare: If you use a "tuned drum" setup (Kick is the root note, Snare is the fifth, Toms are the root, 3rd, 5th, etc) you have a pretty narrow window for a low tuned snare to be in that 5th tuning. That's interesting that there really is a limit to how low your snare fundamental can be in the context of a song. I quite like the 140-170 range and now I'm interested to see if I can make low tuned snare in, say, the key of C work or if I need to jump up an octave.

    i'm not convinced yet that i should be synthesizing snare drums at all. it's kinda tedious and even dan worrall doesn't manage to make a smacky and punchy snare with a sweet flavour out of white noise and some filters. but one thing is for sure: this allpass filter trick is awesome! and this video in general was a great way of showcasing the slider modulators' features (mod depth, bidirectional, renaming etc.)

      snare is the only type of drum that I'd always rather get sampled than through synthesis. It just almost always lacks power

      @@DKH712 maybe it would be possible to synthesize good snares by using similiar techniques to these, but on a larger scale. like instead of one wobbly allpass filter adding metallic tones, add 30. and then smash it with amps, OTT, clippers and stuff in parallel to really twist it into something more interesting. and then bounce 20 of those snares to an audio track and layer them all together to precisely sound as good as they can. maybe then it would work somehow

      ​@@Beatsbasteln I mean, maybe. Some combinations of all those effects are sure to give good results, but I feel like I've gone down that path enough times to feel sure in saying that too much of anything is a bad thing. ;)
      Honestly, most snares in good sample packs are probably designed with simple techniques like in this video, but with a lot more time and effort going into the tweaking of these parameters. And when it comes to the biggest punchiest drums, guaranteed the samples most of us are using have already been meticulously EQ'd and compressed before being rendered as samples. Probably that EQ and compression is also applied to several individual layers of a sound, compressing the noise components separately from the tonal stuff for example. The question isn't really if these sounds can be synthesized, but whether it's worth the time and effort to do that yourself. For many of us, the answer is often no, since we can dig through a sample library to find the kind of sound we want more quickly.
      Making your own sounds will let you sound more original though, fwiw.

      @@andreyamakesmusic yeah i just feel like making own drum sounds from synths can be fun. i mean regardless of wether or not the resulting sound is good or can be achieved in a different way faster. so from a purely commercial standpoint you would not synthesize snares. but from an artistic pov you might just do that for fun and inspiration

      @@Beatsbasteln Oh yes, definitely. And even if you do want to think commercial/utilitarian, the path of least resistance might not always be the best one! It's hard to stand out nowadays, having sounds of your own can make a difference.

    Aside from being super neat this video was an excellent demonstration of what the product can do and how to do it. Definitely the right way to sell something.
    You should do a video about how Volcano can replicate the Xfer Records LFO Tool plugin by modulating the level with LFOs and envelope followers/generators. That then saves people 40 bucks if they were planning on buying both plugins.

    Does anyone remember the name of the other video where Dan used one of the FF plugins to synthesise a full dance kit (all starting with white noise AFAIR)?
    Best money I've ever spent getting the full set, love these plugins

    You highlight the fact that due to the random nature of white noise generator not all sound sound the same. What about putting a 5s white noise sample in a sampler instead ?

      Or bouncing/exporting a couple snare hits that you have just made, and then sampling.

      Might depend on if you prefer this to behave like a sample of a snare or as an analogue kind of snare. Which is the programming fundament shown here anyway.

    Ive been following along these tutorials and they are absolutely incredible. I did notice though that in my envelopes the shortest attack setting i can use is 1.45ms rather than 0. Does anyone know why this might be and if im loosing out on any potential snappyness because of it? Im getting results pretty similar to the video but im just wondering if im missing out on anything.

    would setting the decay and sustain duration to zero be a better way of ignoring midi note length? You should only need to tweak the release value then.

      You'd get a very short initial click, then silence.

    i did this and it doesnt sound as smooth at all. i used an ableton opertator as source tough but it wouldnt make that much difference i guess

      It worked for me in Ableton. I used 'MIDI to' routing to send a MIDI signal from an empty (it's important, your MIDI track should have NO audio effects on it) midi track to another track containing Volcano 3 instance. You can select destination of that MIDI signal. Please check '15 Routing and I/O' manual chapter for more info
