  • If you’re feeling under the weather and you’re a fan of "Chicago Med," chances are you’ll brighten right up on Sept. 22 when the second season kicks off. Colin Donnell, who plays Dr. Rhodes, was eager to talk about the show at the NBC Universal Summer 2016 TCA Press Tour in our video here.
The final scene last season found Dr. Rhodes saying goodbye to his mentor, Dr. Downey, who had cancer. Colin recently told The Hollywood Reporter that the scene “did so much to propel Connor (Rhodes) going forward so when we pick up in season two, he’s still dealing with repercussions with that and he’s also being quickly introduced to his new mentor within the cardiotherapy department because he’s taken on the fellowship to be a cardiothoracic surgeon.”
The new and very different mentor is played by Ato Essandoh. Colin’s other castmates include Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, Nick Gehlfuss, Yaya DaCosta, Brian Tee, Torrey DeVitto, Rachel DiPillo and Marlyne Barrett. You can see a fun video with Epatha here on Parade.com, in which she shares about her health and her hobbies.
    Colin On Screen and Stage
On television, Colin played 23 episodes on Arrow and 16 on The Affair, in addition to many other shows. He’s got a long and impressive theater resume-20 productions-with three award nominations for his role as Billy Crocker in "Anything Goes."
The versatile performer, age 33 and from St. Louis, told the TCA audience earlier this year that “as we continue to live in the character’s skin more and our writers are creating better and better story arcs for us, everything has forward motion, which is awesome.”
The Chicago franchise creator, Dick Wolf, said the show won’t be “announcing unknown medical breakthroughs, but hopefully-and that’s the responsibility that we have-we have to get it right.”
He also said he doesn’t think people watch the show for the medicine. “I think they’re watching the show for the doctors.”
The hugely successful "Chicago" franchise welcomes a new member this fall: "Chicago Justice," date and time to be determined. Meanwhile, get your Windy City fix when "Chicago Med" returns on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
