If it wasn't scrapped it could easily be explained as an early version of the fast headcrab because the combine created them with genetic modification. Or it was mutated from the quarantine zones xen infestation

I love the Poison Headcrabs, they remind me of King Crabs, and they move is alot more slower and have alot more weight considering they’re alot more bigger than normal headcrab

I am not a big fan of the alyx crabs, then again the crabs do change in every single iteration of half life. However I prefer crabs in the previous games where they would purr and make those noises not whatever noises they make in alyx. Also why can they move their mouth now and why do they look like uncooked chickens.
