I know this content stuff probably isn’t the highest ROI of all time but man do we appreciate it. Thanks Phil for being a great poker player but even a better more respected person in this crazy space
My heart when you lost two all-ins for 400k. Very respectable to have you post losses-- *very* few gamblers do. Just shows the type of mindset needed to make it to the high stakes!

This was an interesting session. Sometimes they just have it. I would like to see the Patrik Antonius session. Think I saw alot of it live back in the day.
Love all your content. What do you think about posting some sessions of 2-7 Lowball? (Assuming you have any recorded). Either NL or Limit, single or triple (though I'd think NL would be more interesting?) I love watching you play PLO, of course, but there's such a dearth of 2-7 content out there, and I would like to watch you play different games, hear your thoughts on changing mindset as you move from one game to the next.
Hey Phil, could you give me a piece of advice? I moved up from 5NL to 50NL in a year by using the 30 BI rule and my mind is a bit overwhelmed by how fast the swings are growing (up or down, doesn't matter). Although I'm never money scared and I always play to the fullest of my ability, I can't ignore the fact that I can make similar amounts as I can in my day job. This makes me respect the game much more and my approach has become much more serious than before. Is there anything I can do, to stop thinking about the amounts I'm playing for? I'm a bit concerned about my first upcoming downswing on this stake and I want to be prepared... I already am trying my best not to get too excited when I win big, but it's not easy to keep my emotions in check. Thank you in advance and keep the good content up :)
Moving down in stakes after taking shots is pretty brutal. Knowing u have to put it twice or three time the work to build ur bankroll can be disheartening but going through that experience is the only way to grow as a poker player. Ty for the video as always Phil 🙂
Hey Phil, great content as usual. When you say your BR was getting a little tight around this time would you happen to recall how many BIs you had for this game? I imagine you didn't just sit down to play this rec with your last 100k obviously, but just always wonder what kind of guidelines highstakes players use when playing the big games.
What is your mindset like during the rebuild process? Do you ever feel slightly hopeless after having to slowly grind back your losses at lower stakes? And how long did it take you to grind back up?
I think one of the biggest leaks here is people continue playing in such a scenario and ultimately lose their whole bankroll. Through ego they continue thinking the cards are gonna turn, im better than villain, and go busto. Takes a lot of pride to say, you know what, it’s not my day, I’m being outplayed, and log off. How tempting was it to try and win your losses back against a player you feel you had an edge on?
VERY tempting! You make great points. It is really hard to make the decision to log off in the moment. That’s why I always try to set a stoploss before I start playing, while my mind is clear.
Unlike in Texas hold'em, in PLO you must always use two of your hole cards. So with JJ95 in his hand, the best hand he can make is a flush (using Jh9h). If the river was the 6 of clubs instead (no flush possible), he would have 5-5-K-J-5, the last two representing his two hole cards.
I remember watching caddilac1944. One of the "rich businessman" types who would show up every so often on full tilt. This guy was nuts. Think Durrr lost over a million to him. I also remember the swings in his games were wild. Goes to show that when you're fearless you can definitely win over skill at least for a little while.
was that the time when you made the videos about the downswing and your family reach out to make sure you were OK? and a friend offer to lend a million dollars, but you chose to play lower stakes? love all your videos
Maybe this is a stupid question but why did the queen high flush beat 5s over Ks full house? Is that a PLO thing? I thought the hand rankings were the same. Do you have to use at least 2 cards from your hand or something? Edit: Yes, in PLO you have to use at least 2 of your hole cards.
i was just wondering to play these stakes, u said at the start the br was getting tight, how much do u actual need to play these type a stakes ? thanks
I don't know about 'need' but Phil answered what would be a comfortable bankroll for these stakes: "I'd say something like $5m-$10m" twitter.com/PhilGalfond/status/1638271908344111104
How does pro poker player arrange family and kid? They often have to face wining and losing also the hours that they work is at night. Can I plz talk to u about it
Hi Phil, I enjoy your videos and thanks for the content. I have a serious question for you, even though ostensively you will believe it to be silly. At the end you give reasons why it seems to go poorly when you are scared and uncomfortable. How sure are you that being scared and uncomfortable does not affect the random outcomes of the game?
I don’t understand why you never 4bet any hands I guess. Open 3bet flat seems to be the standard for every hand… I’m just curious why with such a high 3bet frequency you weren’t 4betting at least the strong pre holdings? Was this part of the “playing scared”? Edit: after seeing his hands I don’t think you would have changed much, I’m just surprised I didn’t see more 4 bets pre.
these videos are so great. what a brutal session did you ever recover or did you have to quit and get a real job? I'm guessing you gave up the poker dream got married n had a kid.

If you got a rec player whos overy aggressive: sure, limping buttons is good for pure win rate, but in my experience id say you make him not wanting to play you. So the 9653dd in the beginning should be a raise even though limping wins more (in my humble opinion)
Yes, Phil, please review any and all the hands you want. I guess it is really boring and simple for you, but even if you took a few extra minutes explaining, it would make me happy
I know it's about prestige, managing bankroll, earning a good living, having fun, promoting your skills, etc. But man wouldn't it be more satisfying to build a school or hospital somewhere?
I want to see the session of you losing 2 million to Phil Ivey in plo hu match. I thought for sure you would crush him. I want to know did you think you ran bad or played bad? Was Phil ivey just to good? I remember watching him beat isildur1 hu on 2 tables of nlh out of 4 million dollars. I thought for sure Ivey would lose and bet my friend on isildur. This is when nobody could beat Isildur1 heads up when he was at his best. I stopped doubting Ivey after that.
Man I run always so poor against maniac whales. Some days ago on my table there was a absolute insane person that put in 1000bb pre with random hands in plo 5 card. He ran 30 stacks over ev in some hours and I ran like 25 stacks unter ev. It's always the same.
@@technofeeling2462 it's also the nature of PLO. Against someoene with a massive stack going all in blind every hand, you will lose most of the sessions you play. Can anyone tell me how on 4:00 a flush is better than 5's full of kings?
Hey SupDog, in PLO you have to use exactly 2 cards of your hand with 3 board cards.
In this case Phil's wins with the higher flush (KQ865 > KJ965)
What is your mindset like during the rebuild process? Do you ever feel slightly hopeless after having to slowly grind back your losses at lower stakes?
