The OT goal looked like a Panthers team that was an NHL team vs. a minor league Leafs team in "awe" of how pros play hockey. Leafs made about 4 defensive mistakes on the same play and gifted the OT goal to Florida.
At least 4. Three minutes of terrible hockey 🏒

Matthews and Marner (especially Marner) were absolute ghosts last night.
I have to give it to panthers, they really did not leave any room for them to work.. In a way it seems like panthers have a full dictionary about how to play against leafs, while leafs are still reading their abc:s about panthers.
Would you trade Marner 1-for-1 for a guy like Matthew Tkachuk? I sure as hell would

I have been saying this for years... you can't have a team full of skilled players with minimal physicality in playoffs. You can endure a few non-grit skill players... but successful playoff teams are FULL of big, tough, players... motivated to follow basic team game.
Spot on this is Big Boy playoff hockey and Leafs have 0 grit
Someone hire the Chazzman cause "he's been saying this for years". Guys why is nobody listening to Chazzman he's got all the answers? Lmao clown kid
They traded for physical players, elite players not stepping up
Except for the several years when the penguins or Tampa won and everyone says you need speed and not size.
@@spittinvenom9843 did they? What I saw last night in OT was Reinhart skate thru the zone, wring it around and receive as pass from behind the net and walked it in for an easy OT goal. Not one body on him, not a check, a grab or even a stick check. Yet that grit really worked out, huh?
That is what happens when a fanbase doesn't have playoff experience.

Yeah I didn’t get that either. It was a free skate to the net.
The goalie was goofy as well. He asssumed the puck would go all the way around to his left. He had no clue. A player should have shouted "On your right!". That's assuming if the goalie his right from left.

I’ve cheered, but mostly have bled tears as a Leafs fan since I’ve been a hockey fan - I was 5 years of age. I’m now 53. 48 years rooting for that organization. Despite the constant disappointment year after year, I’ve always started over with this franchise with the opening of each training camp.
This years playoffs: I sat down to watch game #1 (1st round) with great optimism, but only to see TML get walked all over again right from the drop of the puck. Tampa Bay scored just over a minute into the game. I shook my head and turned the game off. I saw enough. That first minute showed that again, they are not a contender for the Stanley Cup. I saw the final score the next morning, a 7-3 rout by the visitors. I then made one of the easiest decisions: I haven’t watched a minute of the Leafs since that opening minute.
As a Leafs fan I honestly think I’m done. I cannot see myself starting over again at next September’s training camp. It will be the same old song and dance. We all know it will.
I wish the organization my sincere best with trying to figure themselves out.
I basically stopped watching after the 2011 meltdown to the Bruins. I was a huge fan watching most regular season games and all playoffs. Now I'll watch a game here and there. I have watched all 3 losses to the Panthers though. So when they lose I doubt I'll be back. Watching hockey does nothing to improve my life.
It's too bad a couple of generations has never experienced a Stanley Cup parade
Nahh leafs fans always come back this is why TML does not care : money comes in regardless, highest value franchise
I’m 57 and the same story as yours. I honestly cannot do this anymore
I’m done with the Leafs!!!!!!
@@efortin9543 I agree - they always come back………..

I was upset to see Sid leave Sportsnet. Now I'm glad. No way would he have been allowed to say this over there.
You did it too Sid. "The sky is the limit for this team" same thing as those young fans cheering we want florida.

The best part is Floria chanted we want Florida after the third loss to mock leaf fans.
Florida has fans?
Thank you Sid, for saying it like it is without the usual BS from Toronto media. Its unfortunate, but it is the ugly truth. I left Montreal in 1981 at the age of 25 and had lived through 11 Stanley Cups (i.e. almost one cup every other year of my life!). I have now lived in Toronto-the mecca of Hockey- for for 43 years and have supported the Leafs and have been suffering ever since. The Leafs clearly were outplayed, out hustled, out coached and out general managed by Florida. In other words, in every aspect of the game. The fans have suffered long enough. The Leafs are now having to face the prospect of needing to win 4 games in a row to advance, against a superior (8th seed?) team. Its tall order, but we can always dream. BTW just luv your Simpsons analogy!!!!
Mecca of hockey my ass ... Montreal is where it's at.
@@Mr_Spock512 Mr. Spock the biggest difference between Montreal and Toronto hockey fans is in Montreal they refuse to support perennially losing teams and demand changes in not just players but upper management. No one is spared. In Toronto we continue to shell out top dollars to support losing teams for over 60 years and no one is questioning why the GM and President of Hockey Operation as well as the coach are not being held accountable!!!!!!!!
There's one mecca for hockey, and it's Montreal. Montreal is the oldest and most successful franchise in the NHL, and they play in the largest barn in the league to a crowd that's unrivaled. Just go to a game in Toronto and then compare it to the experience in Montreal, it's not even close.
@@jonjones3958 Totally agree 👍👍
Gotta love Leaf fans…it hurts so bad
I grew up a Habs fan, but have oddly, also liked the Leafs who admittedly never troubled Montreal during that team's heyday. I have always felt sympathy for the fans of Toronto who are so loyal and supportive. Most city's fanbase would have deserted them with the loss to Columbus years ago.
it's time to blow the team up and rebuild. This group will never win anything, and management is so hamstrung with massive investments in four players. Matthews and Marner are fun to watch, and they seem like nice enough people, but they're not going to win you anything with the supporting cast they have.
That Game 3 OT goal was epic...
With the type of players they acquired, Florida carefully molded themselves into a team built for the playoffs. Leafs and their fans happy with all the high offence and skill that usually wins a gold in the Olympics
Yah tell Shanny and the Laffs fanbase that we are not competing for the World Cup or Olympics but the Stanley Cup instead.
@@list67 the leafs won't give up their regular season " entertaining " team cuz they know fans won't like it. Don't want to jeopardize millions in merchandise as well. Revenue will always be the priority. Stanley Cup ? Not if they have to build a " boring " team to get it
You mean the suits that eat up all the overpriced tickets whether they win or lose.
@@billboggs6641 Montreal fans know that the Leafs aren't good enough because they beat them two seasons ago. The Leafs stinks from top to bottom.
As I've told colleagues who are Leafs fans, the better matchup for them would have Boston, who quite frankly were worn down from a historic regular season. Florida is a big team that is persistent, physical, well-coached, organized, and doesn't get discouraged when scored upon. In the playoffs, it's all about matchups; playing a team like Florida, you have to match their tempo and physicality if you want to hang with them. All I have to say is, good luck!
Sid must be a hit with those Breakfast Television types. 🔥🔥🔥
I don’t think the Leafs should go with the same or similar lineup next year if they get swept 🧹 by Florida! The major changes are long overdue to try and end the long suffering of the fans that haven’t seen a cup win since 1967 !
1:19 I think the broadcasters wanted Toronto to win since they put "FLA leads 2-1" in the banner by accident. Lol.
That goal is the closest thing to a slam dunk in hockey
The core 4 do great in the regular season because they have time and space.
In the playoffs there is no time and space.
You won't win in the playoffs with them.
After Steve Dangle's reaction, this was the one I've been waiting for. Those "We want Florida" fans probably thought Florida would have been the easier opponent than the Bruins. They forgot one very important thing however: They are Leafs fans there are no easy teams against them. Either they are tough teams that they can't beat or they're easy teams and the Leafs beat themselves.
I can't stand Dangle. I can't listen to his screeching high pitched voice anymore.
@@tml184 Then don't watch maybe?
They chanted the same thing for both Florida and Boston
I mean wanting to play the team that beat the #1 team in the league just doesn't seem smart to me. Well maybe Homer Simpson smrt smart.
Dangle should go away, like move to Vancouver
Be patient maple leafs fans. It took 20 years to get out of the first round. It’s going to take another 20 years to get out of the second round. It’s a work in progress.
By my calculation, I will be 137 years old, when they complete the the fourth round.
Oh well Canadians can still cheer for the Oilers
Good stuff Sid!!
The Panthers last season was a lot like the Leafs. All shiny offence, skill and speed. They made changes. The changes made them a worse regular season team but regular season was not the problem for the Panthers. The change was for the playoffs and it looks like it might have worked.
Brian Burke said it, you need a team of players with "tenacity", who want to "win" at all costs. Post game interviews said it all, down 3 games, and calm and unconcerned about the situation. The panthers want to win, you see it in their play, everybody is in for the race to the cup.
I haven't seen defencemen standing around and getting beat that bad since the old fanuef days, the leafs won there cup when they made it to the second round, put old Carl Brewer out there on defense, it worked once before. lol
toronto getting too cocky is why they have not won the stanley cup since the sixties
Love the irony of Sid making a "Monorail that doesn't work" analogy for the TORONTO maple leafs.
The Simpsons reference especially the classic monorail episode has me dead. Well done sir. Bring out the memes!
As I have been saying for years, this team is NOT a team, they have no killer instinct. They are docile and reactive. They get up a goal, then they back off and allow a goal, they get up two goals, then they back off and allow the other team to get two to tie it up. Get a goal and keep pushing. This team, if it were playing as a team should be beating Florida 5-2 every game. Time to dump Shanny. Time to dump Dubas. Time to dump Keefe. Time to trade Matthews for choices. Time to trade Mitch for someone with a little emotion.
Keefe is overrated the only reason why Leafs beat Tampa was because Vassy was subpar Tampa's Top 6 was invisible and the Leafs had puck luck and Sammy was better than Vassy that's it Florida reminds me of the 2010 to 2013 kings they had skill and they were hard working and cant pound you into the ice Unless the leafs can find a Gear or anything it's over Game 4 will be a funeral gathering for the Toronto faithful
@@danielpetrucci8952 The only reason they beat Tampa was incredible luck and an off vassy.
Should be beating Florida 5-2 every game, why? Florida is the better team
"Time to trade Matthews for choices" Gee, Arizona has a ton of draft picks to move. Wonder if Toronto will bite for those "choices" and rebuild from scratch.
@@ivanrogic4803 He is saying paper skill wise the Leafs should be able to hang around and it's true, these were only 1 goal losses (a difference of 1 goal; they were not blown out).
I will say though having so many 2-day breaks is lame. If it was me, I would make each series best of 5 with a potential game 6 and have 1 day off in between with the final game having a 2 day break beforehand.
He built a tougher team perfect his skilled guys didn’t show up his grunts did this is on the top 4 they gave up looked disengaged
On a scale of 10 they went from 0 to a 1 on the toughness scale. You still don't have enough
The Leafs need to see if they can trade Matthews this offseason, but if they can't do it before July 1, he has a full no move clause lol. What a brutal contract, signed him for too much money, with a term that takes him directly to free agency, with a no move in the final year to fully handcuff the team, yikes.
He has to go this off season
@@Choochill Like I said, that window is really small, has to be before July 1, and you need to find a trading partner that doesn't put you in a choke hold and you end up even worse off after the trade.
If Arizona gets #1 OA ?? They willing to take a chance on hometown Matthews who yes is 7 years older but has proven how great he is and trade him for the 7 year younger BeDard ? Could be intriguing . You never know how.draft picks will work . Generational talent or not , injuries could happen , might not adjust well to the NFL game at his size etc etc . Getting swept in the second round is honestly worse than losing round 1 in 7…. What a joke
chanting "we want (the worse team)" really shows you how fragile the fanbase is even immediately following their first series win in 19 years
The fact is Dubas, Shanny and Keefe should have been fired 5 seconds after game 7 last year, they werent. Management should fire Dubas and Shanny right now and at least send a message to this team, if that doesnt motivate them to try and dig out of a 3-0 hole than its time to blow up the Core 4. Namely Tavares and Marner have to go, Holl has to go to.
Remember the fans' sentiment? Well this series was a better loss than the last year. this never used to be this way, the Leafs always had top enforcers who were also skilled defence men and even goal scorers on the front and back ends. from Tiger Williams, to Wendel Clark to Domi and Darcy Tucker. the leafs were up there with the Flyers and the Canadiens for being touch as nails. this is what happens when you bank on flashy refinement culture, on goal scorners with speed and skill but no cohesiveness or people to defend them. the Leafs could have shelled out for a better goal tender than neglecting that aspect of a winning team and settling for at best, an average one or two goalies. this whole team needs to be gutted, keep Tavares and O'Reilly to foster younger and more eager players like Knies for next season and cut the team's losses.

Sid made mention of this in his rant as well but I’ve always felt the Leafs really backed themselves into a corner by paying 4 players on the team more than half of the teams cap space. Doesn’t leave you much room to sign any other players unless you can get them for cheap or they’re near the end of their career. Let’s be honest, no player in their prime is going to come and play up here for the “BiWay discount price”. It’s just not going to happen.
If the Leafs do get eliminated I think management really needs to start exploring options in regards to trading some of those “core 4” guys to free up some space to sign some new players.
It’s been how many seasons with these guys with the same result? There’s that saying “if you keep doing the same thing expecting different results, it’s called insanity”
