Alice In Chains, despite their humble beginnings and harrowing struggles, are one of the most successful rock bands in recent memory. Jar of flies is one of the best selling EPs on record, and Jerry Cantrell is well known among guitarists. This song is quite emotionally powerful and not as well liked by mainstream audiences, but I wouldn’t call AIC underrated by any stretch of the word.
Yeah 100 percent, wills voice is perfect for alot of the later stuff layne produced like stay away, and the mad season songs, definitely doesn't deserve the hate although I do feel he's a bit annoying when he's trying to hype up the crowds, didn't do it here but in some performances anytime he's not singing the lyrics hes doing a theatrical voice telling people to join him in singing mid song
'Don't Follow' always made me feel like it was Jerry's goodbye to Layne, while its Layne comforting Jerry with his upbeat vocals (implying that we all eventually have to leave this world some how . . . as if he knew that his choices would lead to his early demise).
This Song is an anchor, u know? Always takes me back to those Dark moments / events, but u never stop going back to it, and back, and back, and back...

Seen Alice every single time they have played in London UK for the last 25 years. With Layne they were extraordinary, but this tour was special too. We didn't know if they wld ever play again. The London Astoria was packed. Probably a third of the crowd went apeshit. When we wer'nt slaming, strangers were hugging and singing along as loud as they could. Junkhead went down a storm. Great setlist. Good times. Good luck to all of you and rip mike and Layne.
I will NEVER miss a chance to be a part of Jerry's genius. Some people follow sports, I follow Jerry! Whether the music is with AIC or a solo project, the connection is bar none. Personally, I "feel" every note and nuance and find myself listening to the same composition repeatedly, isolating the tracks and being amazed at their individual power and beauty. Every now and then, my neighbor down the road gets to enjoy too!
We all know no one can replace layne but william steppin' in is not bad at all coz 1. he can play guitar so they dont need no extra member making it easy for jerry 2. his voice may not be similar to layne but it will do
who thinks his voice is not similar to layne's? their voices are about as similar as two humans' voices can be. duvall's voice has a very similar quality but is a little lower. layne's voice later in his life sounds a lot more fried than duvall's, but that's because he was on heroin. not only does it dry your throat and vocal cords out and just generally cause vocal fry, but if you sing loudly and scream while your throat is that dry it causes permanent damage. so it's kind of hard for someone to intentionally imitate that, since the dryness of your throat is not something you control with muscles, it's just a consequence of your lifestyle. looking at layne's early career, like before alice in chains, his voice sounds a lot less fried
Love this tune! Makes me feel good when I'm sad. Makes me appreciate life, love, and good alt rock! RIP Layne, you are missed. RIP Chris Cornell, you were in this club!
