Hey Steven, awesome video, I'm learning a lot. Newbie question here: You assign a private IP address to the firewall because you're in a lab environment, then that IP address is translated by your router to an inside global address (this IP address would probably be the same as your host computer)? My next question is: Your Windows OS within the lab has a default gateway that points to the firewall. Does the path go like this: Windows OS (lab) > PF Sense > Router > Internet?
In addition the old pc I want to use for a firewall, should be standalone with virtualbox and with pfsense liaded virtually and must it be hardwired or can it be wireless?
If you want to dedicate your old pc as a firewall and go the virtual box route rather than installing the image directly onto your PC, you'll need to make sure your network adapter is set to bridged mode. Both wireless/wired should be fine however if you plan to keep the firewall up and running all the time, I would opt for a wired connection.
A great content as always. I have a problem when installing the pfsense. I'm having this error "cannot reach the netgate servers". I've double checked my wan (bridged ) and lan (nat), everything is Ok.
Are you using a laptop and connected to wifi? If so, your bridged adapter may be connected to your ethernet adapter rather than your wifi adapter giving you no internet access. Thus, you'll need to configure a custom network adapter to point to your wifi adapter.
@@MyDFIR Yes i'm using a PC. My bridged network is normally my computer 's wifi network adapter.. I've checked it on my PC ipconfig /all. I will maybe change adapter and sée what happens
Hello when i am at network configuration, when i press the e0 i get an error telling me uknown dhcp value 0x7d. Then when i proceed with installtion it stucks to connectivity check. What should i do?
If you switch your bridged to NAT does it work? If so, you’ll need to create a custom network adapter to point to your wifi adapter (if you’re connected via wifi on your host pc which I am going to assume is a laptop?) as by default, bridged will use your wired network adapter and if you aren’t plugged in via ethernet then you won’t be getting a connection.
Love what you do Steven...Your content on Cybersecurity is amazing...I cant wait to be a part of your new SOC course coming up...I have some cash on hand for the project, but not the entire $500, could we get a discount or an option for maybe an installmental payment in 2 folds
Hey! Thanks, unfortunately there is no installment plan as of release but it is something ill have to work on. My advice is to not worry about enrolling right away. I would instead try self learning via the free route until you’re in the financial position to purchase the course.
thanks for this video👍 especially liked WAN/LAN explanation on bridged network. Looking forward to learning more about firewalls with you in the upcoming SOC course!
Hmm 😏 this guy never stop to post Great videos ❤ ( i literally think about firewall video and you do it 👽😁) thank you so much 🙂
Haha thanks for watching!
Cool video, it would be great if you could add OpenVPN and create a video about it.
Thanks for the idea!

Pretty much 💪 (the IP is not the same as my HOST but it is in the same NETWORK as my host) - typically it would be PFSense in front of the router
Great Video Sir 😍😍
Can you make a video in which we can look these pfsense logs in Splunk enterprise
Gonzalez Sharon Martinez Kenneth Martin Angela
Im trying to download a windows 11 iso for use in the virtual environment. Do I need to be logged into micrrsoft to be successful
I don't believe you need to be logged in but I could be wrong here.

Do you recomend taking ccna course? I don’t know anything about networks
Either that or Network+ 👍
That is great as Always. I have a question. Pfsense IS not working on an Os?
Not sure if i understood your question, could you please clarify?
Do you even Vim bro?

plz make a video about zeek suricata integrating with splunk
This will be in my course, however you can learn how to integrate by watching my project videos where I use Splunk
dude do you have all the 5 project videos available on youtube channel ?
I do not, but i do have most!
Another great video
Thanks!

What is your network adapter set to? Does it automatically provide you with a DHCP address? Are you sure it is set to e0 and not e1?
@@MyDFIR yep i am sure that is e0. The adapter 1 is set to bridged and the adapter 2 set to NAT network like in your video.

@@MyDFIR no its not a laptop. I switched it to NAT and it says that it cannot reach netgate servers

Glad it was helpful!
Another great content! I hope you deep this topic in the future!
thinks for this video
I like how you teach things. If I pick up another cheap computer I just might set this up on it. Thanks.
Thank you ❤️ Im glad to hear that!
Love it . Hopefully after this video I will be able to right setup for my home lab
You can do it!
Very gd great step by step 👍
