oh man. the first lake sturgeon I caught on the Wisconsin river was 61" back in October of last year. I have a long long bucket list like yourself. started working on them a couple years ago. I knocked out White sturgeon in may with sturgeon slayers. if you ever need a co- angler im a nice guy, a good angler, and will close my shop to fish any time hahaha *throws hat in the ring* - Andrew
My family lives up in eau clair and on the chipiwa we use night crawlers and 2/0 baitholder eagle claw hooks. I use the same on the wisconsin river for cats and other sturgeon.
Lake Sturgeon is like 88 or 92 pounds and like maybe close to eight feet. White Sturgeon out on the West coast are the giants. I've seen fish in Wisconsin approaching 8 feet in protected areas. They are super cool. (edit) An ichthyologist in Madison at the UW wondered why they were not present in the Madison chain of lakes so he planted a couple dozen. That was in, I think, 1932 (?). The same giants still make an appearance once in a while. Reports of sharks in Lake Mendota have been recorded over the years B-)..........................

Dang! It’s a very pretty area - I have a part 2 where we caught a lot more sturgeon, but haven’t had a moment to piece the video together yet. Hopefully you get some good fish!
The sturgeon used to be I THINK fifty inches one year and seventy inches the next year so my boss would only buy a license when the limit was smaller. He used a giant push button reel because he was left handed. I think he fished the river for over fifty years mostly for sturgeon near Lake Wisconsin. He used big globs of worms.
