Guys working out the desired parameters of complete systems before any investment of of real world commodities. This is planning at it's finest! Thank you, Mike for sharing your vision! You and others are inspiring me to get back into my true passion General Aviation (GA)! Been away since 2000 and that's too long! I'm an experienced lofting plug producer that has worked off of line drawings for composite fiberglass molds. Primarily for the marine industry. Electric marine propulsion has been a focus for me since 2015. I believe that electric aircraft propulsion is the future. I need a test stand and aviation prop to work with. I've worked out on paper and ink how to power an electric aircraft motor system of about 180 HP equivalent for up to 6 hour runtimes. Though Rolls Royce and Siemens has been teasing the market. I believe my 1.5 KW MoGen system will scale up without much problem. I'm discovering a large community is cocked and loaded to really manifest our cradled visions to make GA safer and practical for larger pilot audiences than ever witnessed before. If anyone is interested in electric aviation power, it will be an honor and a privilege to work with you! The motor, controllers, battery management system and batteries are simple and the commodities are inexpensive. Once the Metronomic/Parametric Oscillating, Battery Management, Mogen is understood by others. It should prove seeming simple to those who are mastering computer aided drafting. With my system, the components can architecture into the composite skins working double and sometimes triple purposes. The goal is 100 year design life! Contact (legioneering (at) outlook (dot) com) As a community we are living in the future! Let's make it a good one! Hit It!
Mike, you couldn’t look more proud than if you were holding a newborn child for the first time, which in essence you are!! And you should be proud because you have created a brilliant and beautiful piece of aviation art that is also superbly designed and engineered!! Every pilot anywhere knows that Draco was the Grand Champion King of the bush planes but I don’t think even it would have held a candle to what you are now creating. Scrappy is going to be awesome and I can’t wait to follow along with the videos as you bring it to life. Some day, maybe I’ll get to see it in person and that will be a major bucket list day for me as a pilot and aviation enthusiast! Thank you for making all of this possible!
In all my vast number of years I have become aware that the higher a persons skill level the more frequently they get lucky! The most cool thing about this build is the volume of recycled materials used in construction. Including the engine.
Every kid in America should watch your videos...it's historic what you are doing Mike! There would be some amazing projects inspired and brains would flourish with creative and constructive thoughts. They need something to get excited about, share on their social networks. I've taught kids woodworking for a lot of years, even the simplest skills makes a huge difference in their well-being.
I'm paused at the 20 minute mark to comment. The twin a arms. Very snowmobile. The carbon fiber - wow. I wonder where the world of mountain biking would be right now if Mike built bikes instead of planes. I continue watching now.
Absolutely amazing and inspiring Mike!!! I watch these episodes as soon as they come out. My concern about this much travel in the suspension is the same problem that caused Draco to have divergent suspension stability in a cross wind. Scrappy, with even more wheel travel, will have that same problem only worse, unless your secret that you're about to reveal in the next video is that the King suspension is a dual chamber suspension and that it will only have minor travel in one chamber with restricted travel in the long throw chamber used for landings. Dual chamber would prevent tip over in a crosswind.
This is miles away from what I do and what I know but I'm so captivated by the build that it has pushed me to do more garage projects. I'm invested and can't wait to see Scrappy fly!
suspension look so great. If I i had to guess, I would say that the custom shocks have a lock feature. To keep the mini wings from moving the suspension in flight.. I know nothing about planes or how they work, just a guess...lol. really like watching you build, your perfection is inspiring.....
I have built several Rockcrawlers over the years and I call Moab, UT my second home. I have bee off-roading there for over 30 years! Aviation has always been my first passion and now I see what you have done and I can't explain in words how excited I am to see Scrappy come together. It literally is combining two of my favorite things in the world to do: Flying and off-roading! What you have created is absolutely a work of engineering art! I can't wait to see it perform! I have played with composites for years and what you did with your Gear Wings is a lot of work and it came out great! Keep it up Mike!
Am wondering if you've come up with some ingenious way to hydraulically raise the wheels with the shocks so those wings can be horizontal in flight, then dropped for landing??? Wait a minute - will the lift from the wings raise them up by themselves if you can valve the shocks to let them easily travel upward after liftoff?
@@getstuk87 I agree, my though is that they are air shocks and by venting them, the lift will cause the "gear" to retract into the horizontal. To land, they will be pressurized to get required cushioning. For simplicity, the shock valving might just perform this function automatically. But if you have to slow down to let the lift bleed off to get the "gear" to go down, that could get to be nerve-racking. Also, this functionality would likely be affected by temperature.
At 8:38 -- although you were speechless for a moment - - you did'nt have to say anything - - - your face said it all -- tons of hard work and lots of sweat and you produced a beautiful "mini-wing" SATISFACTION was printed all over your face - - - well done you're a champ -- I have never seen a person with SOOOO much energy - - - keep it up -- looking good ! !

I just want to let you know, for me at least, I don’t watch your videos because they are cinematic masterpieces. I just love seeing your passion, knowledge, process, and personality. Keep up the great work!
Carbon fibre is just the coolest material ever. I just love it.
I so look forward to your videos. You are such an inspiration. I am a 73 yr old disabled vet and would never be able to do what you do, I feel I am your copilot when you are in the air.
Absolutely can't wait to see this bird fly. Great job!!
You Don’t have to apologize for anything wrong or out of order with your videos, they are perfect the way they are and I’m just happy that I get to see them. And yes I do understand completely what you’re talking about with the suspension. As far as making all those tolerances the way they are I think it’s because you know how a plane ought to be built. Best to have good tight tolerances and a well-built unit in order to have a satisfying vehicle to fly, nonetheless have it be safe. You must really love what you do. I don’t know how you could build something this well and still have such a smile on your face! This video has simply been an honor for me to watch!! Really anxious to see how your suspension works, hope you show it on video!
Love your enthusiastic, perseverance, intelligent approach to what you do !
What really blows my mind is how some people give these videos thumbs down. This is just amazing work, engineering, craftsmanship, imagination and just tons of hours to make the videos possible for the rest of us to enjoy. Thank you Mike and everyone else that make it possible.
I've been waiting for this video the whole week 😅.
Much love, all the way from RSA🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦.
Your work ethic is on another level!
My four-year-old daugter and I really enjoy your videos. During this video today she said, "Daddy, he sure is good a building, isn't he?" We love all you do and sure appreciate you sharing it all with us! Back to work!
Love the videos mike! No matter what im watching, when a notification for your video pops up i immediatley switch over and start watching!
I cannot put into words how much I admire you, Mike. The work you have been putting into this build probably equals that of a team of twenty or so designers, engineers, fitters and craftsmen. You keep on amazing me more with every step of the genesis of Scrappy. Can't wait for each new video. Oh, and those winglets are stunning!
As a hot rod builder your at the stage you have 80% done...... only 60% left to go.......look...... made Mike smile.......💪💪💪💪
🤠🤠🤠
Do you know what's oddly satisfying? Watching you create such beautiful aircrafts.
You rock! What a heck of a video, everything has pulled together over the last few months and came through with this amazing custom front suspension!! Two thumbs up, Mike!
The finish on each of those parts is stunningly beautiful. You must be very happy with the final product. Congratulations. Scrappy is starting to look very "Scrappy."
Cartman exactly represented my thoughts when you said the video was ending 😂 can’t wait to see scrappy come together!
Mike, I am not a pilot, but I love aviation, particularly small aircraft. DRACO was amazing. But the Scrappy build has me spellbound. I eagerly await each new video. I just wanted to say that I find you as a person to be inspirational and no less than phenomenal in terms of your knowledge of engineering and your ability to fabricate components. Your passion about flying is so abundantly evident, you wear your heart on your sleeve and you are unabashedly a champion of advancing recreational flying. And I admire your obvious love for your wife and kids. Keep on keeping on! Now lets get back to work!
As always Mike, an absolute stellar job on the suspension setup. I really like how you explain things you're doing while you're doing it, in an easy to understand way. 👌👌👍👍
Scrappy is starting to make Draco look like a kindergarten project. Mike, that gear setup is in unbelievable!
If only Orville and Wilbur Wright could meet Mike and see this.
They would have both eventually climbed onto their bicycles and rode off with their heads down....in defeat.
It's 2020 and we are living in the future! Witnessing custom, innovative, creative designs from the cradle of the mind. Then modeled on flat screens in animatable 3D computer aided software tools. Hit It!
Honestly I'm glad you got the money do show me all of this. Thanks.
Louis Pasteur said "Chance favors the prepared mind".
You didn’t “get lucky”, it’s called skill Mike, embrace it lol 👊
A lot of hard work, great engineering, art and fabrication knowledge. Thank you for sharing.
Ding Dong. It’s the doorbell again. MIKE’S HERE !!!!
These are some of the rare RUclips videos I actually wish were WAY longer.
So much awesomeness.
I'm paused at the 20 minute mark to comment. The twin a arms. Very snowmobile. The carbon fiber - wow.
I wonder where the world of mountain biking would be right now if Mike built bikes instead of planes. I continue watching now.
...Flying!!! ;^)
The most impressive design, fabrication project I've ever seen, and I've been a career engineering draftsman for 45 years.
I gotta say your one of the people that made me go to college in a degree for aviation thank you mike for making me realize my dream!
I can't wait to see the smile on your face when you first take off with Scrappy. Looking forward Mike.
Excellent engineering video. Everything went together like a Swiss Watch.
30:20 "Im gunna call it quits, for the night" -sun already up in the background 🤣
"...it turned out soooo good..." I have heard that soooo many times! Everything you touch turns out good
The first flight will be epic moment!
Thanks 🤠
Mike is like the most excited kid you've ever seen at Christmas except he made his own Christmas presents.
And still - the surprise and enthusiasm... amazing.
GREAT way to put it!!
Hello, Mike Patey! This is the real man of revolutionary aviation. I'm a follower and fan!
I am pretty sure he did say he will have them up during flight, didn't mention how but let's be real he'll figure it out
Great observation! I think you are right!
Also, this functionality would likely be affected by temperature.
yeah right on.. he made mention of this idea on the wilga wonder how much launch he will get
The craftsmanship is off the charts .. mike your wibe is like medicine to me .. soo much knowledge , motivation and positivity .. 🥰
ITS LIKE GOING TO SCHOOL WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS, BUT YOUR NOT WANTING TO SKIP CLASS!
VIETNAMFAC why do you type in caps ?
" Scrappy " the monster plane !
Mike Patey creates a whole new class of craft.
This pumps me up !!!
And then the Son of Drako after this - almost more than one can take in - breathtaking craftsmanship and ingenuity....
