    I was once charged by two loose belgian malinois and I just stopped and didn't move, and they stopped charging and sniffed me. Then after a few minutes I picked up a stick and one of them seemed to want to play fetch, and we ended up doing that for half an hour. He then let me pet him and I was able to look at his tag which had the owner's phone number. I called the owner and nobody was eaten. Moral of the story is don't assume dogs charging means they want to kill you and never try to outrun them. They are faster than any human

    Zak, I think you missed the reason so many people watched your previous series. We liked watching you struggle! Having to deal with an adult dog’s problematic behaviour and watching their progress week-on-week was very engaging to watch, even if you weren’t someone specifically looking for training tips. These later series seem to only be focused on training tips which we’ve seen you go over before, and less on transforming a dog’s behaviour. I think this is why your later series have had much less engagement. We want to see you struggle with a dog who has damaging problem behaviours and overcome them.

    thank you so much for creating this series! my dog is 3 years old and over the years has lost her confidence with other people and other dogs and has some pretty bad anxiety, she is always happy, comfortable and calm in the house and with me, but new people and other dogs stress her out, however I’ve been working with her and she has attended treat/retreat classes and she is slowly gaining confidence with people! I believe this series will really help me with my own confidence in taking her out, I get scared of how others will view her if she were to go on a walk, but I think she will surprise me
    I know she has the potential to become her best and stress/anxiety free self! this series will be another too under my belt! she will be starting private scent work classes soon as well, which will also give her an outlet so I’m very excited for what the future holds, thank you again Zak!

    Beautiful dog, outstanding relationship-building method! I am a Doberman dude, have raised Dobermans all my life, and have always trained in this fashion, even when forceful training was the norm. I've raised Dobermans for over 40 years and have found training with love and respect gets far more results than those who, as you said, throw a choke chain on them and start jerking them around. Now, don't get me wrong, choke chains and prong collars have their place, but only in the hands of ethical trainers who utilize them in a non-aggressive manner, but rather as a guide, letting the dog take it to the limit and learning from its actions. I've watched you and every episode and agree with 99% of what you say; I just don't agree with your complete disregard of these tools. Every tool has its purpose, and proper utilization produces an harmonious outcome with positive results for both dog and human. Love and respect are the key every training session!

    One easy tip when working with a dog that's a bit anxious about you. Sit down. If you sit down, you're not so threatening, you don't tower over them so much. Better yet, crouch down if you're physically able to do so. Working in rescue, I've had lots of experience working with fearful, anxious dogs. Make everything soft and slow. Make your voice soft, make your movements slow, don't make direct eye contact, and don't tower over them. Wallace is settling in very nicely.

    Hi Zak. Cannot wait for this series and Wallace is just adorable, he looks so intelligable and great to work with! This will sound funny but I have a very high energy chihuahua who is 2 yrs old and since puppyhood, I just can't get him to fetch. EVERY VIDEO I've looked at won't help; when I throw the frisbee he drops it, or brings it back but won't let go, or runs away, he knows so many tricks and is super amazing but fetch is the only issue! (Kind of annoying me that the first minute you met Wallace he already fetches, my dog just won't! Got any advice?) Thanks :)

    I'm on the edge of my seat for episode 2, because we're going through this exact scenario next Tuesday!
    @ZakGeorge / anyone else in the comments who has introduced a new dog to their home..
    We're inviting an 8 month old girl into our home with our already 3 year old man (both huskies). They've met before and really hit it off, but does anyone have any advice for transitioning from outdoors to indoors where tensions might be higher?
    We have some great ideas to reintroduce them outside first and let them drain their energy, as well as a clear plan as they get to know each other, but we're not agreeing on what to do when we first introduce her to her new home:
    Do we let the new pup roam without the older dog's interference? (He's not territorial of anything except attention)
    Let him in first so he doesn't get jealous?
    Separate them to different sections of the house (ground/upper floor) so they can get used to each other's scents like you might do when introducing a cat?

    • @LiaGoldie
      @LiaGoldie 9 дней назад

      I've just introduced a 6 month old rescue into my home with 3 other dogs. New dog is 6 month old female Kelpie. Resident dogs are male Kelpie (nearly 12 years), male Kelpie (6 years), female Border Collie (3.5 years). I did parallel walking for the first day and otherwise separate, then on leash walking around the yard the next, then the other Kelpies off lead one at a time with her in the yard but Border Collie still on lead as I wasn't as sure about her. Now a week later and I have them off lead one at a time in the yard with the new dog, can have both other Kelpies out there. Today I started allowing inside together, started with them in the yard then allowed them in.

I watched the whole series of George the Pitbull. I loved it. I have a pittie/boxer mix that I adopted. My biggest problem is that she loves going out in the truck BUT as soon as she gets in there the barking starts and we like taking the dogs for long rides. She will litterally bark at everything and and nothing. Non stop it can go on for 40 to 50 min. I've tried everything. Could you give me some suggestions if possible on how to make her stop barking?.... I would really appreciate it.

    My objection to this series is that a young shelter dog with unknown history is exposed to many new scenarios in a limited period of time (assumption few weeks) for promoting treats and toys. Would make more sense to educate Wallace owners how to build trust and train Wallace at his home and at his own pace.

    • @zakgeorge
      @zakgeorge  18 дней назад +3

      Very valid concerns! We actually view his time away from the family as an opportunity to get a brand new experience while still young and be exposed to new dogs and people for a little bit. We always operate within the dog’s comfort level. In this case, his guardian came over several times a week to learn and spend time with him. Absolutely agree that we have to work with him at his own pace. Looking forward to your feedback in future episodes!

      @zakgeorge keeping him on a loose leash on a collar, no harness - outside and inside the house, not talking in words, but if necessary with body language, showing his place and water
      Nothing else the first hours, the first day. No toys, nothing. Next day to start him to follow me on the leash and to earn that way his food.
      When he follows on the leash to start normal basic training on standard commands.
      He seems a total normal soft and insecure GSD/Mal mix missing a little guidance and structure, easy learner, enjoying to work

    • @zakgeorge
      @zakgeorge  20 дней назад +4

      @ so do not try to get him playing and enjoying himself while being placed in a new environment? Tell me what your recommendation does to address the emotional state of the dog? Or does that matter? It’s just about following you on a leash and making him earn food? What do you think would happen if I put a leash and collar on him and encouraged him to physically follow me? Do you think he would resist? Do you think that he would then be labeled as ‘aggressive’ because he doesn’t want to be dragged around?

    • @Klugschieterin
      @Klugschieterin 20 дней назад +8

      @zakgeorge a dog on a leash with collar does NOT mean, never means to use physically pressure, i wrote before to communicate with body language only.
      The normal behavior of a dog in an unknown environment is to be shy, insecure and careful. Let the dog be himself and let him without human interference himself, just keep him safe with the leash.
      It's time you stop thinking a leash with a collar is harmful, negative. When i see the back of this dog being unphysiological in a permanent kyphose (typical unhealthy breed of GSD) ... he needs his back straight while walking... that's harmful
      Playing, "enjoying himself" in a new environment with people he doesn't know will lead to desaster, because you cover his senses and reactions about you and the environment. "Playing* is excitement. This dog needs the opposite, he needs to explore the new situation calm in his own time.
      You want to make him a strong confident personality? Just don't talk, be calm. That's it.
      A dog needs to come by his own to the human. That's the only way
