Good idea, cutting slots for the mounting holes! I'm definitely going to be doing that to mine. I like the idea of using the powdered form of sodium hydroxide. You can create a higher concentration for deep cleaning. Thanks for the info 👍
Cutting the slots for the mounting screws is an excellent tip that I will be doing with my cold smoker. Currently, I just take it apart and put the parts in the bottom shelf of the dishwasher and it comes out pretty clean - I do need to pay additional attention to the air nipple, but the rest of the unit is good to go after a run through the dishwasher.
Great video!!! Between you and Steve at Smokin' It you are making me look like a real chef!! What a great Combo. 2Guysandacooler and Smokin' It Smokers, unbeatable!!
Here I am searching information about cold smoke generators. And once again, you have all the information I need! Same unit I have, and now I have a better understanding. Thank you for all the awesome videos! Oh, and by the way, what a great idea about modifying the way that it screws in so you don’t have to remove the screws to clean out the Bella! honestly, it should just come that way. Great information!.
I have had my smoker for 2 years and has never been cleaned, looks like I now have something to do. Thanks for season 4 of celebrate sausage. Do you think you could do a video about the use of the different binders you use and why you add them like potato starch and non fat dry milk.
Hello Eric, up until now I have used oven cleaner and coated everything then placed in a large zip lock bag overnight to clean mine. I am going to try your method as it seems that it would work a bit better.
As always a very creatively conceived topic that makes all of us better at our craft. One question. Any suggestions on how to dispose of the water after the soak?
This is a great video, it’s really helpful, I just started using my Bella cold smoker, but it will get filthy like the master built sidewinder smoker box I’ve been using, in the part 2 video, could you show us your settings when you’re smoking, how you use it, with my first try, the pellets were expanding from moisture, and chips would catch on fire, I’m doing something very wrong. Thanks Eric, good stuff 🙏🏽
Question, when cooking snack sticks or pepperoni. Should I Sous Vide first and then smoke it, or smoke it first then Sous Vide it? Thanks for your time, love your channel!
Potassium Hydroxide is even more effective (and more corrosive), but lets you clean things maybe half the time, or even less. Also great for hardened grease and oils. Also, chemistry safety advice: You should always add the powder to water, not the other way around. This reduces chance of spluttering.
Looking to buy one of these for my personal Christmas gift. Thanks for the updates and looking fwd to the next video. I have been relunctant to buy it due to billowing smoke but watching your videos I am thinking otherwise then thin blue smoke.
Hey Eric.Great job. Question. I have a Smokin It Smoker and. Bella Cold smoker. My stuff seems to come out over smoked. How long do you run the cold smoker and how full do you fill it up? Thanks.
Have you ever tried turning down the air pump speed for a lighter smoke? When I try this the pellets just go out. But with this video I am hoping that after the thorough clean I will be able to run the air pump at 30-40% flow.
I would have never thought about using a base to clean carbon and tar/creosote. I would have used mild acid and a scrub brush and carburetor cleaner on the tuff stuff. You know it’s said “tunnel vision is blinding”. Thanks for showing a different perspective.
Hi Eric, I have the Bella cold smoker, I have a few questions, do you use pellets in yours? I’m having trouble with pellets, the expand and clog everything up, even if I mix just a few with wood chips, I try to get plenty of air circulation in there, maybe I’m doing something wrong?
Not really. I have seen others have that issue. What I do is make sure my pellets are super dry before I place them into my smoker. I live in a very humid area, so I'll dehydrate the pellets before using them.
@@2guysandacoolerokay thank you !! My sable cold smoker is on it way your video we’re a big help in making my decision keep up the great work I really learn a lot from You and appreciate your videos!!
I used roughly 4oz of granulated drain cleaner. I didn't measure it, just eyeballed it. Sometimes I use the entire container which is 8oz (if it's ULTRA dirty)
The little bit of solution he used here is so small compared to the hundreds of gallons in a traditional maintained septic system. Besides the caustic would only convert some of the fats in the house drain lines and tank soap. It would quickly be nutralized in the scale he's working at. Compare this volume to soaps used from bathing and a dish washer detergent which is mildly caustic (why aluminum turns out discolored). Also consider the caustic is already partially nutralized by the creosote from the smoker.
I bought a 2d smoker and the Bella this December. I didn’t read what came with the Bella and ordered the cleaning kit. After it shipped I read what came with it and thought to myself how dumb I was and would have two cleaning kits. I was surprised when the smoker came and there was a check for the amount of the cleaning kit. Steve realized I screwed up and refunded the price of the cleaning kit. A great company!
Would love to see a video on how to use the smoke generator!

Thank you for this very informative and highly timely video. I am about to get Bella's Cold Smoke Generator for my beautiful new smoker. Thanks again!
Nice!!

NOICE!! Is the next vid on cleaning the smoker itself? That creosote was looking pretty thick in there as well.
A demo cleaning of the smoke chamber would be very helpful?

My smoke generator is overdue for a deep cleaning! Thanks for the info 👍🤙
Looking forward to part 2 on troubleshooting. I think I'm going to make a bent metal piece to keep the smoke out and away from the top.
My sable just shipped great video just in time!!
Oh WOW! That's a big unit!
Fantastic advice
Awsome video Eric definitely going to try this method. Cheers

So where is the video to troubleshoot the cold smoke generator? I wanted to know about that creosote.
Same here. I definitely don't think mine is setup correctly.

Did you ever make the troubleshooting video, boss?
I have a Smokai cold smoke generator. I’m going to try this the next time it needs a deep clean.
I would have never thought about using a base to clean carbon and tar/creosote. I would have used mild acid and a scrub brush and carburetor cleaner on the tuff stuff. You know it’s said “tunnel vision is blinding”. Thanks for showing a different perspective.

What do you do with the caustic acid?
Eric,
Do you have any problem with moisture buildup rising to the top of the generator and causing feeding issues?
Not really. I have seen others have that issue. What I do is make sure my pellets are super dry before I place them into my smoker. I live in a very humid area, so I'll dehydrate the pellets before using them.

You and appreciate your videos!!
You mentioned other videos on maximizing efficiency, etc with smokin it Bella model, but I don’t see them.
Another source of caustic action is oxyclean, in very hot water. I use it to clean stainless beer making equipment, also.
Pretty smart
Hi Eric. When you said above that you used 4oz drain cleaner in the video, was that 4oz of drain cleaner or about half of a 4oz bottle (2oz)?
I used roughly 4oz of granulated drain cleaner. I didn't measure it, just eyeballed it. Sometimes I use the entire container which is 8oz (if it's ULTRA dirty)
😅Smokin!!. Excellent advice
I'm disappointed Eric...I just knew you would have a recommended Ph for the solution. 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
How caustic is the waste water from this process - will it harm a septic system?
The little bit of solution he used here is so small compared to the hundreds of gallons in a traditional maintained septic system. Besides the caustic would only convert some of the fats in the house drain lines and tank soap. It would quickly be nutralized in the scale he's working at. I'll have you use 75% vinegar 25% water to clean mine
I never received a cleaning kit.😢
you must have gotten yours over a year ago

I use awesome that I get at Big Lots for real cheap. Spray it on and watch everything melt away.
