They keep their logos simple so it can be put on a app and shrunken down but still readable
Logos benefit from being simple but when simplifying it's easy to lose a logo's soul (/vision) or what makes it interesting.

It's not up to you what the logo should look like, it's up to the people and their perception of the brand.

@@Rascal1214 Only the Windows logo is supposed to look like a window, not the Microsoft logo. In the redesign, the four parts of the new logo are each shaped to look like an individual Windows 10 logo. And the colors are more vibrant I guess

This reminded me of the time when Sony, way back in 1981, hosted a competition where people all over the world were tasked with designing a new logo for the company.
This competition had nearly 30,000 people submitted their Sony logo designs with 59 being chosen for the competition. When they reached the final three designs, that was when Sony realised their mistake. Sony co-founder Masaru Ibuka decided that none of the three logos were better than their current logo. The three logos chosen for the competion lacked the timeless look of the Sony logo and really reeked of the early 80s.
In the end, Sony chose no winners, split the prize money to the top three designers and kept their current logo, which has been in use since 1957 and has been revised four times, with its current revision being in use since 1973. Sony's logo is too recognisable to be redesigned, Kids, Teens, Adults and even the elderly can recognise the logo.

Companies make simple logos because they are vector graphics. This allows for easy scaling for screen size as well as not being too detailed so nothing gets lost no matter how big or small the logo gets
But there's a difference between creative and just plan bland. Is scaling an issue for the playboy bunny? No! Yet that little bow tie could get cut off in a printing error and people would still know that the bunny represents.
you can do complicated shit with vectors, and besides, most of the previous app icons were vectors as well. dont act like its because of the technical limitations, its a deliberate, stylistic choice

The over simplification is how those logos look in the App Store, and online through various devices. It’s a design component of development used so your logo looks palatable when compressed.
