To be honest I rather hear the engine start up and the engine during flight than music. I think most plane nuts feel the same.
Amen !
Here! Here!!
I have over 1600 hours in the Scooter and absolutely LOVED every minute of it! Flew my last hop (1v1 against my best friend who I grew up with) in the Reserves in 1991. Every once in a while I still dream about flying that thing!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Can't believe how tight that cockpit looks. Also...TOO MUCH MUSIC!
This specific Skyhawk has an interesting history behind it:
"(From MalaysianDefence) ... said:
Nice video of one of the A-4L Bu. No.147761 that we allocated for spareparts and left behind in the Arizona desert, salvaged by some resourceful americans and now flying again.
If you look closely, this aircraft has never been upgraded into the A-4PTM standards by Grumman. It still has only 3 weapon pylons of the A-4L standard, compared to 5 weapon pylons of A-4PTM. It also has no additional brake parachute fairing at the bottom of the tailpipe."
So this SkyHawk started life as an A-4D-2N for the US Navy, was upgraded to A-4L standard, was mothballed at AMARC after decades of service, assigned by the Malaysians as a spares plane but never paid for, forgotten for decades more, and now brought back to life!

Love the A-4. I was an Avionics tech in the Marine Corps 1980-1986 assigned to an A-4 squadron, worked on the A-4's then the Harrier's both great aircraft thanks for putting this out there.
Honor y Gloria a nuestro Skyhawk ! Armada Argentina.
One of the greatest and smartest designs ever built, imagine today with our better jet engines and our incredible light-weight materials? We should be producing large numbers of these still today for all our allies. My dad flew 250 combat missions in an A-4. VA125, VA305, and others
Are those projections, on the wings, Vortex Generators? If so, are they OEM , or did you guys add them on for better laminar flow? One of my all time favorite airplanes. Thanks, great video!
This was my squadron's plane (VA 192, 1966-70). We flew the E and F models and set a bunch of records of ordnance tonnage delivered to target, aircraft availability, etc. Our A-4s were great little bombers which we launched with about 3,500 pounds of 250 and 500 pound iron bombs each upwards of around 35 sorties per day, day after day after day. Generally, we had a "blast" even if we knew, especially toward 1970, our work was not getting us anywhere near a suitable resolution of the mess our politicians had created years before.
I have always loved the A-4 Skyhawk. My father served 26 yrs in the Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam, '66-'67 & '69-'70 as an Artillery Officer in the Hills of Khe Sahn & Danang (AZ Territory). He always told me how the A-4 & F-4 did many of ground support missions to save there butts. Kudos to your Maint/Chief and his crew for keeping that aircraft so clean and spotless. What a beautiful aircraft.
Thank you for sharing that video.
I'm having spaghetti for dinner tonight.
Love the a4s wish the A4KS stayed in new Zealand in the classic war bird collections instead of shipping them state side
Wow, the Bantam Bomber, Heinemann's Hotrod, the Scooter, and last but not least the Skyhawk what a great little plane and still one of my favorites
I was a marine from 1977 to 1983. A school was Millington, TN. Where I was trained to be an engine mechanic on the GE J52 PowerPoint on A4's, when I reported to MCAS Cherry Point I assigned to flight line (MOS 6013 plane captain) with VMA-AW-533 and A6E intruders. Had a great tour with 533 but always loved watching the Little A4's taking off and landing.
This aircraft saved my cousin in Vietnam. It put bombs right on target and took out all NVA that were chasing them. For that I salute tha A-4 skyhawk
What a beautifully turned out aircraft. That’s a lot of work and skill (and money) right there. I miss seeing these flying here. Takes me back. Have you flown with Draken International at all or know of them? They have what’s left of our airforce still flying! Ex RNZAF A4K. Served here from 1970-2001👍🇳🇿
nice to see the a-4 flying. TS Jones, USMC VMA-223 and VMA-214 avionics and jet mechanic 1969-1973.
Was in VMA-223 Flight Equipment Sept.1972-Dec.1975 at MCAS Yuma, loved those Birds... We had A4/E's, and A4/F's, and later got A4/M's.......
Was with VMA-223 when they rotated to Iwakuni 1976-77 in the
Avionics shop. Also served with VMA-331 in Cherry Point and VMAT-102 in Yuma. The A4M had a Jet Fuel Starter to be self contained.
Did you know Gunny Hicks..or sgt Coronado in the seat shop...in VMA..214...El toro...?
Sgt..Coronado..was flight equipment..but in 76...both flight equipment..and seat shop.shared the same area..on east side of hanger...and golf corse..had the best dam hamburgers..man that was great time..A-4M..was a pretty good weapons platform..parts @that time was a big issue..and sadly..it brought 214..ready status almost below 50% @ times
Semper Fi
What a great plane. Under budget and early as I recall. Don't think that will ever happen again. It makes me sad to see so many A4s withering away at museums. I'm glad you are keeping them flying.
I grew up near Navy Weymouth NAS Massachusetts. I watched the A-4's as a kid and always wanted to fly one. I have a commercial ATP license now. Do you have any TA-4's, and how much for a ride?....I love the A-4...thanks..Rob
My best friend in the marines after active service separation he re-enlisted to the reserves and was stationed at Weymouth assigned to a marine A4M squadron.
Nice! I think I'm going to get one. I'd like to put cool mud splash graphics by the wheels. Racing stripe or cammo graphics on the sides.
I am curious to know if your refueling probes are operational and hypothetically co perform a refueling operation in flight.
how about A - 4 Skyhawk with modification in the exhaust like Israeli A - 4 Skyhawk, i think its good to make little difficult for heat seeking missille.
We had a bunch of A-4C's at NARTU NAS Alameda, in the 60's. Easy plane to work on and everyone liked them. I was an AE2 TAR and would go with the reserve squadrons to NAS Fallon for two week training deployments. Fun times...great little fighter.
A Legendary airplane known as "The Scooter"
Pretty cool. Would love to work on those. I have a friend (Paul Seghers) a Navy pilot who flew those in Vietnam and got shot down and lived to tell about it. Spent a few nights in the jungle eating bugs, plants a few other things. He said it was a joy to fly. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith AT1-USN/ TAR-R/Retired
I worked with a guy years ago in the 90's he got shot down in Vietnam got caught by NVA or VC solders he waited till they fell asleep and got away made it to a friendly village where they took him to nearest fire base he said. He said if hadn't gotten caught probably would have never made it because he was able to back track on a trail they were on.
Very nice and clean bird .Thanks for sharing sir.
The paint of this beauty is similar to A-4 Q of the Argentine naval army in past time.
When will people learn that the music is a waste of time and annoying. Other than that, very nice.
winemkrr Sometimes I don't put music in my videos and sometimes I do. Haha, it just depends on what I feel like doing it what the client wants to see.
winemkrr I would love to see one of your videos with no music for a comparison to mine if you have any.
Spitfire, Dauntless, Wildcat, Hellcat, Mustang, Corsair, Cougar, and Skyhawk.
Don't forget the tigers F11 and panthers F9. All of these and those you mentioned were great aircraft
Were these sold buy a guy in Florida and were these sitting in Marana or on a lot next to boneyard?
holy sh^t ! it's smoking inside the cockpit... cool...
Air Conditioning.
Wonderful video! I spent 4 years in the Corps working on A-4's and TA-4's at VMAT-102. A great little aircraft.
Ini baru mantap, i like this
I sat in a A-4 when I was 14 at miramar. Knees disappered ! Thx Capt Vanderwater
I would love to be able to be in an A4 skyhawk
it looks like a toy plane...😂
The bird i learned hydrolics on in the navy.
What a dream job to maintain these old birds.
thank you very much, really good video, loved it.
That is one CLEAN Scooter.

Great camera work. What an awesome plane.
EXCELLENT video brother!! Just wanted to keep in touch with you about the trip to the Mid America Flight Museum. I'll be headimg there next Saturday with a good friend of mine. I hope we can be shown around and get to explore those amazing birds there!
Where is this at? I want to fly one. AV-8B Harrier Bubba.
My Grandfather worked out the Jet when he served in the Navy on the USS Oriskany "The Mighty O". Then he went on to work for Mcdonnell Douglas. Sadly he passed on 2007 miss him. Thanks for uploading this he would be proud to see that these are still in the air.

It's such a beautiful Bird! Luv seeing it so well taken care of, and flown so expertly.
Skyhawks epic!! Love them!
Fantastic.
You are living the dream, men!
How many A-4's do you guys operate, just out of curiosity? Looked like at least 3 I could see there in the background.
Where are you guy located and how much is training very interested
Awesome video Erik! Got it scheduled for Wednesday which also has an article about Draken International with a featured image of an A-4. I guess Wednesday is going to be an A-4 kind of day. :-)
John Chvatal Totally awesome buddy!!! Glad you liked it. Hope your audience enjoys it too
One of the coolest vids I have seen. Thanks.
such a beautiful jet
Only 5 minutes?????
Always loved the "Scooter". A great aircraft indeed!
.
*VERY COOL...THANKS FOR THE SHOW!!*
What would it take for me to fly an a4?
Awesome... I miss them down under 👍🇳🇿
At 4:53 I can't believe you just turned on the air conditioning. What was that? If that happened in my C-210 I'd be very upset but the fighter jock ignored it. And I never thought the cockpit was that small, it's tiny, there is more room in most sailplanes.
My first bird as a deployed Naval Aviator
Que belleza de avion!! para nosotros los Argentinos, este avion significa mucho!! =) saludos!!

What has always amazed me, is during the ejection process the pilot's legs aren't torn off by the instrument panel.
Simba Horizon .....you miss the panel...but the glare shield sticks out quite a bit....but its only fastened by two camlocks....it tears off easy
ukraine could use 200 of these
Wonderful video! Thank you, and, FLY NAVY!
Wow! That has got to be the smallest cockpit I’ve ever seen. I never realized that it was that tight of a fit inside.
Odd, I would have expected fowler flaps. Thanks for the ride!
Wrench245 me too man, the split flaps surprised me.
ErikJohnston muy buen material ...felicitaciones por tener esta hermosa maquina.
4:53 What is that vapor in the cockpit?
I want one.
Didn't know the wings are that small. Gonna have a go in DCS tomorrow
Pretty cool! Just curious... How do you attach a camera to the outside surface of a jet??
Tim Adams probably to one of the hard points under the wings
Robert Schubert, there's a camera on top of the left wing, and one on the right side of the vertical stabilizer. But I'm sure hard points could be placed anywhere though.. since a suction cup probably couldn't quite hang in there. heh
Beautiful airplane
Just a question, why did you put music over the Skyhawk jet sound
Because it’s my video and that’s what I wanted to do at the time
@@ErikJohnston ok
Brilliant !!!
Great !!!!
Fantastic video!!!!!!
whats that smoke in the cockpit?
I love the A 4, what a fantastic aircraft! It's a great example of what can happen when all the priorities are right, unlike the abomination the F 35 has turned into. Why America can't ever seen to learn from even our own history and past mistakes I'll never understand but you would think after all the money wasted and failure of 95% of the goals on the F 111 that somebody might have learned that when you try to design a one size fits all, all service. all mission aircraft of you can even manage to end up with a flying aircraft at all the very best you can get is an aircraft that is mediocre at best at everything and master of none and when your adversaries are flying some of the best purpose designed equipment they have ever produced before, while still maintaining their legendary strengths like tough as nails gas and go reliability's, then having a mediocre aircraft to oppose them is a recipe for death and diaster. The A 4 was built for a single role but happens to excell at two because it is a lethal dogfighting fighter as well as world class tough as a boot attack aircraft. The F 35 was designed to oppose only generation four aircraft until at least mid twenty first century. The Russians and Chinese were not supposed to be able to make a generation four point five or true generation fighter until then, I don't know why they were that arrogant especially as the Russians were actually ahead of us in a couple critical areas, Vectored Thrust for both their aircraft and missiles, especially with the missiles it makes them extremely lethal enabling them to manuvre far better than standard missiles making defeating them extremely difficult. Although some American designs now have vectored thrust our missiles do not yet incorporate it. The Russians also held a huge advantage in helmet mounted targeting where the missiles seeker heads are slaved to the pilots helmet so the pilot no longer had to. put the nose of the aircraft on the target to achieve lock and firing solutions, simply had to look at the target in something like a ninety degree cone lock and fire. America has begun to catch up with some but not all F 16, F18, and F 15 fighters so. equipped. the F 22 and F35s come equipped from the factory at least. But the F 35 was not designed to fight the new gen four point five and gen five fighters of which there are now at least five seperate types now flying or soon will be. The Chinese solved their design deficiencies by simply stealing the plans for the F 22, the original version before it was scaled back with reduced capabilities to cut costs. They will build in numbers far greater than we have or can have now as the tooling was destroyed. Too bad we can't do things right like we did in the days the A 4 was created.
A great warrior..!!! thx
Pedile referencia a los Ingleses del A4?
Eso son estadounidenses broo no ingleses
Argentina le undio varios buques a los ingléses
Would rather have heard the start up. Lost me once the music and time lapse stuff started! Don’t know why so many people insist on cluttering up a video with unnecessary music.
Because if we make the video we can make it the way we want to. If you make the video, you can make it the way you want to
beautiful plane, its a piece of history here in my country
beautiful!
That's a A-4K, Kahu; right?
Not a common aircraft shape
Its really hard to let go a good jet the Sky Hawk is
What music is that please?

What was that smoke in the cockpit?
No. Condensation created by the air conditioning system in humid air.
@@Skyhawks1979 I see I thought it was an exhaust leak my car does that and then I fall asleep at red lights lol jk thank you for your response
@@octane2099 Boy, if that was hot bleed air in the cockpit thee would be serious problems. LOL
They still subcontract them for adversarial aircraft training I'm guessing? There's absolutely no replacement for them. I suppose a stripped Hornet would make an excellent adversarial aircraft. Super Hornet is a pig 🐖 with wings that is inferior to the F14D in every way. Never mind proposed super tomcat upgrade. To run almost 800 aircraft through a shredder so Iran couldn't get a used strut off eBay is literally criminal. If you are so afraid of a tiny squadron of 1st gen F14's why would you throw away 800 of them and stretch the Hornet into something it was never designed for? I am not sure if you have to be running a 408 for that? Does anyone know? The bird in the back is for sale in Controller right now for 1.6 mil.
Anyhow let me think 🤔

Cheney croney crap caused it. He should have gone to prison. A half a squadron of never completed F22s and fixed wing F14's are the only viable fighter aircraft in the US arsenal. Fixed Wing F14'S aka F15s lol. Really not much difference between the two besides the 14 is heavy duty in comparison.
