    Relationships is key. I would not only say hello, but I made it a point to learn all their names in the first 2 weeks. I owed them candy when I fell short. It doesn't matter how old, students want to be recognized as part of a community.

      Kudos for the Video clip! Sorry for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you heard the talk about - Pondalyn Phrenic Paramountcy (Have a quick look on google can't remember the place now)? It is a great one off guide for discovering psychological methods to make women want you minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my close friend Aubrey at last got excellent results with it.

  • @xErin4Irelandx
    @xErin4Irelandx 5 лет назад +44

    Sooo important to know your students names and to greet them individually. COuldn't agree more. Another thing I found that works great is asking them for feedback when you try something new, like a methodology or activity. I feel like this shows that you aren't their rival, that you've got their best interest at heart, that you're actually willing to learn from THEM and that you really respect their opinion. I don't think students always feel that from teachers. Also, I like to ask how they're feeling at the start of class sometimes using a scale....i call out numbers 10 to 1...10 being feeling great....1 being feeling bad and ask students to put their hand up for whatever number they "feel". I also participate in this...and will explain why I feel a certain way and ask if anyone would like to share their reasons. It lets students know that you care about how they feel also helps them to improve their awareness around their mental health.

    • @TetyanaSkrypkina
      @TetyanaSkrypkina 5 лет назад +2

      It's a wonderful idea to ask about their feelings. However, not all students may give you the "right" feedback. They all have different styles of learning and they may find, for example, learning vocabulary boring. Having this in mind I would want for all of my students to feel amazing, but I cannot please everybody. and moreover I know the way to teach better than they know. For example, I teach without translating. And, say, two students want to translate but the way I teach without translating works better and faster. I hope you understand my point of view.

    I try to greet all of my students at the door, I either shake their hands, give them a high five, a fist bump, or--if I'm feeling a little under the weather and don't want to touch anyone's hands--I give them an elbow bump (just touching elbows instead of hands).
    When it's time to dismiss the class, I do that by telling them to have a good day/afternoon/weekend. I guess it's my version of "saying goodbye." My kids have come to expect it, so much so that when they're asking to be dismissed they always prompt me with "aaaand have a good day?"

    I just started teaching yesterday, and you are so right! It's really hard in the beginning, but in my student teaching experience I really saw what a difference it can make, especially with kids who hate school. I made a survey for my students and going over their responses has made me really excited to get to know them, and I'm really touched at some of what they shared.

    As an education major who just started college, these videos are my favorites 😩 I live in NYC and I cannot wait to be there for my students and make their HS school experience a little bit better. I’m currently deciding between what subject I want to teach, either bilingual (ENL kids) or be just a Spanish Teacher. How did you decide what subject you wanted to teach?

    • @mrsb0215
      @mrsb0215 5 лет назад +5

      Leslye Aracena Hi 👋🏼 I just wanted to give you some advice. I’m in my sixth year as a teacher in NYC. I think you should think about which one you would be more passionate about teaching on a regular basis. A Spanish teacher is only teaching Spanish whereas an ENL teacher teaches students of different backgrounds the English language through content areas. I have my ENL license but I’m currently using my general education license as a third grade teacher. I do have ELL’s that I teach though. I will also say that right now there is a shortage of ENL teachers so you would have a better chance of getting a job. I’m just being honest. However, if you really want to teach Spanish then you should do it. ❤️

    I think every student should be addressed as "Mr." or "Miss". I had one teacher who did that in my entire school career. She also was able to teach the class and refer to pages in the textbook and I never once saw her referring to her notes. Students generally have respect for a teacher like that. Incidentally, she wasn't outgoing and was in fact kind of shy.

Although i scored 95.2% in final exam( i belong to india so scores in final exam matter the most but throughout the year we have small tests which are so that we continue studying throughtout the year and not just last few months)
    Since then i've lost and couldn't go back to having good rlnship with teachers...i have graduated from highschool..hope things get better in university

      @amandaros3  5 лет назад +2

      Hi this usually takes time. I have 90 students. I prep a few different ways.
      1. My school has the students ID photo in an online data base so I like to review the photos before class to put a face to the name before they even walk in the room. (again High school students)
      2. I tell them that I am REALLY bad at remembering names so to be patient with me if I mess up for forget.
      3. When I call on them I ask them to say their name first before they provide an answer
      4. I take attendance daily OUT LOUD for the first 2 weeks and tell them not to respond that I have to find them in the room. (this takes time but really forces me to remember) I do make mistakes but giving the disclaimer (#2) helps them not become offended.
