That was cool, that M8 is an amazing device, can't believe you can run a gig with that little device! The masks were hilarious! Your description of not remembering how to transition the song is what happens to me every damn time i hit the record button! Can play the riff, song, whatever without even breaking a sweat...until i hit the record button! Frustrating! That gig was awesome to watch. BTW I think it's cool that you embrace lots of different types of music and instruments. I have been playing guitar for many years and kind of got bored with it, so I started messing about with synths and opened up my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities.
I started out playing electronic music live with 2x Game Boys, so the M8 is way more powerful by comparison!! I had a similar situation. Played guitar in bands, then ended up drawn into the world of synths via the Game Boy.
You got nothin to worry about dude its all learning…live is a buzz but also Terrifying haha looked awesome , good crowd…good people around you is 😅mportant …bravo man 🙏🤘
Another interesting journey. I am amazed at all the work you put into it, despite the downplaying of your effort; and the added factor of video-loguing it (is that the right term?) on top of creating trax/coordinating equipment/video mixing/ performing etc... The album is on my wishlist....The masks might become your trademark...
Hey thank you! I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment. I'm not really sure what the correct phrase is. Vlog is such a stupid phrase too... These aren't as good as the vlogs from the band tour a while back when I could rely on the rest of them to be funny!
How did the Edinburgh gig go? Nice to see these kind of vids, getting to gigs, setups, what can go wrong etc nice honest snapshot of the realities of playing live. Masks are awesome!
Pretty good! I blew the sound system twice... and had a dodgy cable. We traipsed around for hours trying to find the night bus home that never turned up, so didn't get back to Glasgow until about 4.30/5am, but aside from that...!!!!!
I don't play live a lot , and the last video I took (with that same zoom cam) I had just messed up and set the gain way too high so there was not much salvageable to post. Maybe some ambient parts but as soon as any drums came in, game over. I feel ya! Hopefully it was overall fun, and that's the most important thing!
Ah man I've done that as well. It's really tricky to get quality recordings on the fly. I always forget *something*. In this case I think I turned it down so quiet on the Zoom in anticipation of peaks that nothing came out at all. But hey... like you said, so long as it goes alright on the night.
Love the masks, and the music will grab a few tracks off the Bandcamp. When you mentioned you forgot what to do I was thinking that’s my worst fear going into my up and coming gigs lol 😂😂
Awesome! Played a show yesterday in a club with big soundsystem, but honestly the kind of atmosphere the place you played at seems way more fitting for stuff thats not the usual fourtothefloor rumbling.
@@StephenMcLeod That's so true. It sounded great on the Fuction One and went well mostly. The Polyend Tracker went out of sync maybe 2 times. Seems to be a thing. Any experience with that? My Elektron Gear did it's job pretty smooth though:-)
@@JosuaKarlson Ahhh. I haven't had that issue, though I rarely slave the Tracker to anything. When I do, I use the ERM Multiclock and not had issues. Whatcha using for your Master?
@@StephenMcLeod I am using the Octatrack as my master. A multiclock is a good idea. Sometimes I am having a hard time investing in those kinds of utilitys, but it would made the gigs definitly less nerv wracking 😅. 👀First off, it's so awesome to see you getting out and playing gigs like this man! Looking forward to all of your upcoming shows! Hopefully you get the next one recorded! 😀 I loved Lee's opening in this! LOL And that name change bit... 😳🤣 Holy friggin smokes!!🤣 Not to mention that outrageously INSANE stage entrance!!! 😱OMG man, do you have any idea how crazy I would have went?!?! 😆That reminds me of old school hardcore professional wrestling entrances from the past, when they would come out to the ring through the crowd... always gets a huge pop, and I would have been screamin my head off!!! lol 😆 EPIC!!!! 🤘 Really wish I could have been in attendance!! And if you ever come to WV or anywhere near my region we will tear it up maaannn!! 🙌🎹🐀
Hahaha thanks man! I've got most of the set recorded so will fling it on Patreon. It's not the best angle, but hey... I think we gave somebody a heart attack with the crowd bit. Imagine turning around to see some awful face mask behind you. Horrendous.
The interference on my M8 is absolutely wild. Specifically when I plug the USB into anything, but sometimes also with just midi and audio connected. I haven’t really taken the time yet to troubleshoot it but I’ll have to at some point
Does the interference also happen with the headless m8 - with just a teensy 4.1 with the firmware in the usb ? If ure gonna have a laptop anyways, could try the headless m8 with a Bluetooth game pad or numpad
Really cool to hear your gig went well, depite the minor technical issues and crowd induced memory loss. The only thing that helped me counter nervousness was a couple of beers before the show. Not the most healthy habit admittedly, but thankfully my band back then was not popular enough to have too many gigs. Keep up the good work!
Oh yeah, the booze always helps ha. I've played hunners of shows over the years, but still get some nerves beforehand. I think that's probably a good thing!
@@StephenMcLeod yeah, same. Lots of stage experience, both music and other entertainment related stuff, but still I get nervous even before small gigs. After covid it was especially bad. But hey, I guess it means you still care about not looking like a tool.
My, these lips masks are frighteningly repulsive !! On a side-note, I played my share of live gigs in the past 30 years, mostly as a drummer and a singer and, on occasions, as a back-up pianist (poor souls in the audience!), but for the life of me, I would NEVER EVER DARE TO PLAY A MODULAR SYSTEM LIVE !! This feels like a catastrophe machine ready to overload !
Geezakiss :* I can imagine playing modular live, but only in a more experimental way. It's hard enough to keep things in tune when I'm in the studio, never mind in some kind of club!
On the other hand, people appreciate live music more than ever (they already have 24/7 music on their phones). If he prepares some note sheets next time, it might work.
The slow-mo scene at the with those masks was perfect!

Thanks Andy!! Appreciate it.
Sounds like you and your M8 were a welcome relief from all the interminable modular twiddlers.
I like a bit of modular twiddling myself, but I'm too hyper-active to do that live (and also inept!!)

Yeah I love the pre and post gig video too ❤😊
For best recall, your brain should be in same state of inebriation while performing as when practicing.
I guess I'll need to be wrecked constantly then!

There shouldn't be any with just MIDI and Audio! That sounds bizarre. I definitely have issues when the USB is attached in some situations though.

How did you get the track at the end so loud?
That's the mastered album version of the track - processed with izotope Ozone 9.
