Man I love this machine so much! Finally got mine a couple of weeks ago. Seriously, how the hell is it possible that one dude (Trash80) was able to build such a brilliant device! Great video, as always!
I’m really LOVING revisiting your videos now that I have my M8!!! You’re awesome and Trash80 is just simply, not human! I’m so damn impressed with this thing.
Fx management both in phrase and table screen would be awesome. Also rythm pattern creation would be magic!!! Anyway, any more of your videos will be great as well ❤️
Got my M8 delivered to me last week: Ordered on Monday GMT 3PM from USA, BUILT AND DELIVERED TO MY DOOR ON THURSDAY THAT WEEK AT 8PM in UK!!! I was expecting the 6 months wait that had been reported and was blown away by how fast something can arrive from USA. When ordering skateboards or vinyl it takes a long time!!!! This was like ordering from my home country!! If you want to buy one, they go on sale for only one or two hours every Monday, in UK GMT time is at 3pm. I've started using it and love it, however, as others have reported it loses it's charge quickly when not in use. And I don't know about anyone else, but I can only seem to charge it when the M8 is turned on... Looking forward to a hardware update with better battery, but as an owner of an MPC One and a few pocket operators, and Korg NTS-1, with the MPC One and M8 I don't think I have any GAS left other than wanting a pioneer RMX-1000, but I am a DJ, so please excuse me! Honestly these two devices alone, for me, are all I need. Thanks for the upload btw, added this to my M8 tracker playlist as I know I'm gonna need to watch this again for learning... ... Currently cooking and not in front of M8 to practice what I'm watching :(
So glad you got yours!! I think the M8 charges when it's off as well, but there's no indicator that it's charging. Mine definitely charges when it's off too.
@@StephenMcLeod thanks for confirming, I will try it for longer before I start to think it's broken, just needed someone else to confirm as these are pretty niche! Yeah man, this is freaking awesome and does everything and more I was expecting. Like I said above, with that and MPC One, I set it hard to having GAS after that!!! P s. - how are you getting on with those breakbeats? You probably don't remember my comment about that a couple of months ago (I don't blame you!). Are you still wanting to work with them some more?
This might just be a game changer for me. I'm really struggling to find notes to go together to make a melody, because I have no music theory. Gonna have play now. Cheers bud.
@8:04 "I've got perfect pitch and sing like an angel" Cool. Do you have a song using vocal samples i could listen to? In any case, thank you for teaching me Scale mode for the m8, learned something new!!
Yay! Another M8 tutorial to watch while I wait for my pre-order. Great video with good info. I have an OP-Z and read on the discord that it can be hooked up to the M8 to act as a keyboard. Just curious how useful that would be, is it possible for you to hook up your OP-1 to the M8 and share your opinion?
Nice one! Glad it's useful. I've got another one coming soon on MIDI. It could be cool to use the M8 as a sound module, though I've heard there are some conflicts with the OP-Z, since it tries to be the host all the time. I'm going to try hooking up something like a MIDI Fighter Twister so I can control the synth parameters live which would be great for performances...
@@StephenMcLeod That sounds really cool! Also, I was thinking of stuff that I’d like to learn more about before my M8 arrives and I’d be really interested to see a more in depth video about the FM synth. It looks kinda scary to me right now, but maybe that’ll change once I can fiddle around with it.
@@boringnation Nice! There is a video somewhere on YT about the FM synth. I must admit that it isn't my area of expertise... ha. But I shall investigate.
I honestly can't remember. It wouldn't make a difference though. You can either use a headless version, or connect up the M8 via Remote Display. It's the same dealio.
Thanks a lot! I don't have any caps currently so the shop isn't launched yet, but I'll have some in a few weeks hopefully. Because of the nature of the dyeing process, I can't do particular custom designs unfortunately. Also because I have no artistic flair in that regard ha.
Can you please do a tutorial on samples? A friend told me that when you load stereo samples into the m8 it will play them back as mono. Is that true? I'm interested in using the M8 tracker as a 4 stereo track, 4 mono track sampler/songs mode for clips I've made on my other gear other gear. Is that possible?
Hey, I'll have a look at samples and see what I can do! I'm not sure what they were referring to, because as far as I am aware the M8 supports stereo samples. You can record in Stereo or double mono split. What you've described shouldn't be an issue. :)
While I absolutely love that you can select the scale and skip through the notes that are not within it, I don't get what's the point of "applying" scale to a song written in other scale, since it doesn't seem to be properly transposing it to other scale, rather than doing some simple quantizing. There is also a problem with using out-of-scale notes when you need them. I really love the behaviour of Polyend Tracker with scales - when pressing buttons you can only select notes within the scale, but when twisting the knob it will select any note from the chromatic scale and when playing it always plays all notes without pitch quantization - which is probably the most common use case for all people. Doing the same on m8 would mean that you have to constantly switch between chromatic mode and your scale in order when composing and playing, it sucks :( I wish you could disable this pitch quantization behaviour. Now that I look at the manual, it seems like you could probably get aqay with using a scale for editing and setting SCG FX with chromatic scale to ahieve similar result. Gonna try when the tracker arrives ;)
Thanks for watching and leaving such a considered comment! I must admit that I rarely use the scale feature. I tend to just... literally compose things by ear, so appreciate the insight.
@@StephenMcLeod well, using scales helps to save time, because you don't have to think a lot about how to make e.g. a sus1 chord when you want to increase tension or a second inversion of some chord if you want to make a variation - you just remember which note degrees to use :) Yu just count number of degrees when changing notes and it works. A really time-saving feature.
Is this your final theme or are they all to beautiful to stop playing with? Tbh I want one for the look more than anything else. Such a dang classy little guy. I wanna give it an AI brain.

I preordered a week ago and your videos along with Red Means Recording's review are what helped me make that decision
I'm happy to take the credit!
Love the m8 content
Got some more on the way. Glad it's useful!
Eagerly awaiting this device, your videos sold me on it.
Aw nice! I hope you like it when it arrives :D

Lovely stuff x
Thanks!
What a great addition. Thank you for going through this.
Thanks for watching! I've got another one coming on MIDI output in a few days...

Makes up for my lack of musical skills!!
