Still don't understand why the boy bands of the Uk are focussed on One person who does al the singing besides a couple of songs that are sung by the other guys. I mean why did they bring 5 guys together if only one guy does all the singing. For example Take That and Boyzone.
Is it because the vocals aren't quite as good as the front man's. Stephen Gately sung quite a few songs in Boyzone and Mikey too. All had solo careers, also it might have something to do with egos. Read Gary's book My Take, he says in that he was very territorial about the songs and the singing. Boyzone might not have had the same mentality, but it's probably all the same. I hope this had answered your question about why there is usually a focus in a boyband. Personally, I don't know why they didn't go solo to start with. I could never be in the boyband type scenario. Call me old fashioned, I like bands that can play their own instruments.
Take That actually followed New Kids on the Block model and Boyzone followed Take That. I don’t know about Boyzone and NKOTB but back then Take That They were manufactured by their manager and the plan from the beginning is to have Gary as the frotman, lead singer, and songwriter, Jason and Howard were chosen for their dancing skills, and Mark and Robbie were chosen because their sweet face and ability to entertain. So when Robbie turns out to be very successful with his solo career everyone were surprised. Now you see Take That today is more balanced with the singing role but Gary will always be the frontman because he’s still the leader but now let the rest give input for the album and make sure everyone in the band has lead role at least in one song in every album.
Those guys were being punished for something for sure. They were forced to wear these vests and sweat-hoodies for a reason. I bet they learned their lesson: they are slaves, nothing more. This screams abuse.
