I paused my RUclips tv subscription for a month to check out Hulu and see if the changes they made are worth it. They're not worth it TO ME, so I will be reactivating my RUclips tv subscription as soon as my month of Hulu is up. RUclips tv is still the best by far, IMO.

It should be stated that the 'unlimited DVR' is probably just them cataloging 1 item in the storage and putting a bookmark on your RUclipsTV account. that is probably why there aren't individual episodes, and it gives you access to the entire catalog of a show. Still sounds like a great solution to cut the cord - hating DirecTV lately and their hardware is crap.
I’m hating Woway lately especially adter they keep changing the password to our account where we can’t receive emails anymore we had no choice with WOWAY because WOWAY bought KNOLOGY and all school teachers emails are tied to that account and all are other accounts unfortunately now we can’t access our email at all anymore thankfully I’m out of school now but it’s torture I can’t even watch Disney Now anymore my Dad can’t pay bills through email anymore and he refuses to call if when he’s the only one who can call them because the only one who signed up with the accounts is the only one allowed to ask for help and he can’t handle it foreign accents you can’t understand a 40min wait. It’s too much especially for someone who has stage 4 Kidney cancer we’re finally changing email which I have a bad feeling about because our Apple ID is with our KNOLOGY(WOWAY) email . The other thing is our cable keeps going out at 10:30 and every Wednesday at Noon to midnight EAS tests go off worst on Sundays so we can’t even watch our new shows in peace and someone who is sensitive to sounds its too much for them to handle hearing that loud EAS noise every week a million times it’s just torture and not fun .
I have used satellite TV, analog TV, and cable TV until recently. I've been thinking between going back to Xfinity or trying streaming for the first time in RUclips TV, and your video helped me out a lot! 4K being an add-on at all really annoys me. It's resolution lol. If the base plan was still $35 I don't think it would be an issue for me, but now at $65 a month I don't know. I'm only saving $20 a month as is, the add-on would mean I'm paying just as much for cable, but I'm still thinking on that. NHL Network not being in the lineup while the other 3 networks are is very odd, but doesn't bug me. Marquee kinda hurts because the Sky broadcast some games there now so I wouldn't be able to watch them there and I don't know when the WNBA are gonna set up radio. Other than that though, I think I know what I'm gonna do. Cut the cord.
I'm 85 and apart from setting up Chrome on my Apple MacBook, I've had very little problem. The channel "crawl" is similar to that on a hotel or motel cable TV, so I find it easy. BUT I watch on my laptop, just using its keyboard, which may be easier than using a TV remote (which I found difficult with OTA TV).
"I don’t like is that it’s difficult for a senior to navigate and complex." ----------------------------------- RUclips is not really meant for seniors. It's meant for teens and twenty-somethings.
The fact that you don’t get a RUclips Premium account is really lame. 4K is $15 extra? Also lame. Plus it’s owned by Google; an insanely corrupt company invading our privacy 24/7. I think I’ll try something different. Great review though! Thanks!
I am just exploring dumping Xfinity and going to UTTV. The one thing I find that is cumbersome is you have to scroll down through the LIVE list to get your show. Yes, I know you can order them so what you watch most is at the top. I wish you could just select a line number and go there. Also, a way to bounce to your recent show list and pick one there. Overall the quality of the shows on my 65" HDTV looks great, even sports. Some channels I like are missing, ME TV is one and it runs old shows I like. Will have to decide in the next 10 days.
Excellent review and very detailed. What is the process of watching RUclips tv in different rooms and different shows at the same time. Does each tv in a different room have to have its own profile?
I have been going back-and-forth between RUclips TV and Hulu live TV for the past couple months. Both are very very good , at least for me A&E is a channel I regularly watch so if RUclips TV got it back I would definitely resubscribe.
I think both have their pros and cons. For Hulu+ Live TV, the Disney Bundle significantly adds more on-demand content. RUclips TV has a slightly lower price point and some different channels. So it just depends on what you're looking for.
I'm only looking for streaming for NFL/NBA since I have been working away from home. From all the research; it really does seem that YTTV is the only good option.
Just be aware that if YTTV doesn't have an agreement with your local sports channel, you can't get your local team--or you may have to pay for an add-on. I don't subscribe to my nasty local sports channel that apparently has an exclusive deal with local cable company, so can't get local NBA team, and on NBA channel showing a game I get a message that the broadcast is blocked in my area. But I assume that would apply to any streaming system. Once in a while my team is on, say, ESPN, and then I can get it. Just check you can get your team before you sign up.
I am currently in the 2 week trial period but find the guide (interface), more cumbersome than onscreen cable guide. Is screen guide available on tv screen or only through phone/tablet device? I understand a lot of my frustration is due to just not being as familiar with RUclips TV guide selection as cable. Thank you for the thorough review.
Yes, I am looking to "cut the cord." Based on your review and others, RUclips TV may well be my best choice. My question is what happens when I travel? Most of my travels are to Europe several times a year for 2-3 weeks. Can I access it when I am there on my tablet? It isn't critical, but I like to keep up with local news while I am there and I can do that somewhat now via a hotel's wi-fi. I was recently surprised to learn that I can get my Netflix there via the hotel's wi-fi also.
If traveling domestically, yes. Internationally, no. And it's the same thing with Hulu+ Live TV. You could maybe try a VPN but they might try to block the site. Here's their help doc on it: support.google.com/youtubetv/answer/7193651?hl=en&ref_topic=9175927
@@MISSUNIVERSE1830 It does have NFL channel, but I think you get whatever is allocated to your area--West vs. East, usually. Suggest you go to YTTV site and look for answer, or even e-mail/call customer service (which is good) and ask them.
No one seems to mention you need a smart phone with location turned on to "verify location". You cannot add anything to your library unless you do this. It also appears that every time you watch anything else, or turn off tv, you have to log back in again. You have to login from a computer on the same wifi as tv, or through their app. I could not login straight through tv like every other streaming service. So I had to turn on tv and laptop to log in. I have a strictly talk and text phone, with location and microphone turned off. I am unwilling to give up privacy and change phone setting to subcribe to this service, and canceled 2 hours into free trial
Derc, I use Roku now too...did you get RUclips tv? How is it to operate with the small Roku remotes? My biggest concern is being able to FF thru commercials on shows I have in my cloud DVR....can you or someone comment?
Am I able to pause the RUclips live tv via DVR like i can with my cable tv? I absolutely loath and despise watching commercials so i always pause footballs games, for example, for 30 minutes so that I can fast forward through all of the commercials. I could care less about being "up to the minutes live". thank you. Joe
Thank you really helped explain this alot. One question does youtube have MotorTrend or Velocity TV. Where can I go to look before purchasing RUclips TV
I believe that if they want to have RUclips TV, they should have that as a lifetime subscription as long as you have RUclips premium, as well as RUclips kids and RUclips music all on one app together and you get everything as part of a premium package
I read somewhere if you have a VPN (maybe someone here can explain exactly how VPN works.. b'cas I have no clue.) but if you have it, you can use RUclips TV in Canada.... I know that it stands for virtual privacy network, but other than being able to access sites like RUclips TV, I don't know if there are any downsides, benefits, or what.. to it . 🤔 I'm not in Canada, but maybe someone here has heard about it?
Started subscribing early 2020 and have been very happy, other than that (as a non-techie) there were difficulties in installation on my MacBook laptop as Google/YT doesn't permit link-up via Safari. Their customer service was very helpful and I got Chrome installed, with Firefox as a backup. The pros are very fairly described. I would add that the storage is on the cloud or at least not on one's device/computer, so doesn't eat up any storage there. As far as things like movies, since a lot are recycled, there's a good chance a movie is re-aired before the 9 months are up and then YTTV just re-records it, starting a new 9-month life. When you go to watch it via Library, you'll see a string of recordings and you can choose which to click on. For watching a game for a favorite team, there's an option to record "this event/game only" and one to record "all Team Name games, and even one to watch all games for a college conference. For something like Jeopardy, you do get every episode recorded. Big pro is the channel watching guide is very easy to use, and so is the library. You can edit the list of channels, deleting those you never watch and putting your favorites up at the top of the list. The quality of the audio and video is excellent. When I had cable (years ago) there were always interruptions in service, occasionally for days. I've not had any such problem with YTTV; the only glitches have been (1) interruptions with a very few live sports events, probably due to troubles with the originating station equipment--usually when watching on my laptop on full screen (I was able to reset on going back to usual screen)--and (2) a demand from ABC and PBS at intervals that I confirm my location, which I found hard to cope with, but think I have sorted out now. (I don't think this is the fault of YTTV but some stipulation from the stations.) My main recommendation would be to think hard about what channels are your non-negotiable must-haves and see which streaming service has them. For me, the live local channels, including PBS, and Turner Classic Movies are no. 1. There are a lot of movie channels on YTTV, a lot of sports, and a lot of the "documentary" channels such as Smithsonian and Nat. Geog. I'm retired, living alone, and the monthly subscription works out at a little more than $2 a day--I certainly get more than that in value most days. For a family, having to pay for several people to go to a movie theater or sports event, the savings must be considerable.
Not worth it in my opinion. I have my antenna to watch all my regular channels, firestick which has a lot of free content along with Tubi, Peacock, crackle etc, and Philo which I pay only $20 a month, so I'm good. I guess it depends on your watch preferences. The add-ons is where they getcha
Yep definitely not worth it in your case. You didn't mention any DVR features, and all those options you have take some knowhow to navigate. It's definitely a cheaper alternative, but its pretty Janky imo.
I had OTA TV for free till it was blocked by new massive buildlng between me and broadcast tower. Yes, I now have to pay, but I get a lot more, so can't complain.
I live between S.F. Bay Area and Sacramento. Even though I'm closer to the Bay Area, when I put in my Zip Code they gave me Sacramento local station. Can I use a Bay Area Zip because I like their News Channels better than Sacramento's??? 🤔 🤔 🤔
Have you noticed RUclipsTV throttles HD down for Live Sports from 1080p to 720p, even on channels which are in 1080p for other content? Is this being done to nudge viewers into paying for 4K?!
So is it possible to use my brothers account and he lives in separate household from me but if sign into his account, could I watch TV while he is at his home and I'm at mine simultaneously?
Anything that’s on the NFL Network or the local networks is included. The only exclusions this season would be out of market Thursday Night Football games which are on Prime Video only.
Yup. So in looking at the budget vs RUclips TV you'll need to subtract the cable portion from your bill and compare that to internet + YT TV. From my experience, most people are saving $20-$50/mo but cable prices vary wildly.
Sorry if I posted this too early, I'm paused at four an' a half minutes, but does RUclipsTV have commercials? If so, does also pating for RUclips premium remove the commercials on the TV part?
Depends on your local service. You can check. In my city, the channel carrying the local NBA team has an exclusive arrangement with local cable giant, so no, not available on YTTV. This is not universally the case.
@@ShallIStreamIt So, will a rocku stick in a dumb tv allow it to pick up YT tv from my laptop and watch live channels on both/ Say Fox and CBS at the same time?
So I’ve had RUclips TV for four months. I still have Comcast high-speed Internet which works great throughout the house I have one home theater set up and my phone and that’s it. I used to be a cable technician for years and I know how systems work Wi-Fi and all the stuff. But the last four or five weeks I’ve noticed RUclips TV buffering and not working like it should be working and they want to charge me for 4K extra. I’m curious if Comcast which I told the switching RUclips TV is doing something to our Wi-Fi Internet somehow to affect the RUclips TV. Are any of you guys having the same problem
I get OCCASIONAL freezing and buffering. When I say occasional, I mean MAYBE once or twice a week. I have the X-finity 100mbs UNLIMITED plan which allows me to stream ANYTHING, and I'm the only one in my household, so I only have a maximum of 2 devices on at any one time. I recently paused my RUclips tv subscription and tried Hulu for a month, and it had buffering issues at the beginning of almost every show on the live portion which was very aggravating, so I reactivated my RUclips tv subscription. I don't think it's the internet that's the problem.
I’m considering canceling it. It always freezing and thinking and you can’t contact anyone. It’s impossible to get help with your services. It started out $45 dollars a month now it’s $70. Not really worth it anymore. Overpriced with all the compilations. They really need to have a costumer service.
I have had the opposite experience with RUclips tv customer service. When you go to the help selection you can request a call back, and I have never waited over 30 seconds to receive the call from one of their reps. As far as freezing, buffering and that kind of stuff, I hardly ever experience that.
I had DirecTV for years and every year I had to call their retention department and negotiate a new price for the next year. For many years the deal they gave me on my TV and Internet package was good enough that I was able to keep DirecTV and my 1GB fiber optic internet. This past year, that was not the case. I was going to have to pay $38 more per month for the next 12 months because of the increase on the TV and the lack of retention discounts.. They could not give me a decent price for the bundle and I was going to have to pay over $200 for the TV/Internet bundle. I always considered $200 to be the breaking point. I dropped DirecTV and kept the 1GB internet and started with RUclips TV. I've had it for a month now and I couldn't be happier. Sure it's not as quick as DirecTV for channel surfing and it has a few other things that bothered me at first but I got used to it. It was real easy to get used to with a $75/month savings for RUclips TV/Internet over DirecTV/Internet. That's $900/year that I'm now saving. With RUclips TV I have every one of my favorite channels that I had with DirecTV so there is no reason to ever go back.
Tried it and realized the first day my time is too valuable to waste being bombarded with commercials using the live and on demand RUclips TV features, plus the inability to fast forward through most everything I DVR’d was an instant deal breaker. RUclips TV navigation using their excuse for a program guide is also ridiculously cumbersome and inconvenient no matter if you use your smartphone phone or a bare bones remote. No way I’m going to pay $73 a month and then be forced to watch voluminous commercials. YTTV is a sucker’s bargain.
You can’t upload something to YT TV like you can with RUclips. You’d need to have a deal with one of the linear broadcast or cable channels for that to work and that’s well beyond my wheelhouse.
Does the RUclipsTV allow you to go directly to a channel? On Cox Cable, if I want ESPN, it is Channel 15, so I can type 15. How do I do that with RUclipsTV? Or, do I have to scroll through every line to get to the channel I want?
You can arrange your channels in any order you want and eliminate those you don't watch from showing up in the live guide altogether, but there is no number systsm to go directly to a specific channel. It will keep track of your recently watched channels and make it easier to find what you want.
There's three sections on the YT TV app: Library: where your recordings are, Live: where the channel guide & live channels are, and "Home." The Home section has menus with movies and TV shows you can watch with your subscription, but when you watch them there are ad breaks you can't skip past. Anything you record WILL let you skip the ads, though.
I paid Premium and got a new iPhone 14 and they won’t let me keep my Premium and made me watch commercials for three weeks so I unsubscribed to them. If anybody knows how I can get them to refund me and let me sign up again let me know. I do love RUclips Prime. They have loads of crime shows. Thanks.
I've never had cable TV during on my own & I'm almost 60. And I'm paying enough just to have internet. I can get local channels clear enough with my ancient roof antenna. And just watch RUclips & tiktok.
I'd recommend getting a Roku player or Fire TV stick to watch it on your TV. I made a Roku Buyer's Guide here: shallistreamit.com/2022/06/17/roku-buyers-guide-every-model-compared/

We have a Roku tv and use two Roku sticks for the other 2 tv’s. My husband prefers a remote rather than controlling it through an app. Roku works well for us
With RUclips tv you can't fast forward through commercials on DVR. I really miss being able to do that. RUclips tv has shows I watch on Discovery+ like HGTV, TLC etc. but RUclips tv has commercials Discovery + does not. It's a shame I have to pay extra for Discovery+ just to avoid commercials.
What happens with RUclips tv is that when you add a program to your library (DVR) they automatically put a VOD copy there, and you can't ffwd through commercials on the VOD version. The recorded version won't be available until the show actually streams on the live channel, at which time it will be RECORDED in your DVR. When you start to chose a program in your library and you hover over the thumbnail, right below it you will see a tab telling you to choose a version. Click on that tab and you will see the different versions (VOD or DVR). In order to ffwd through commercials you must choose the DVR version. Just remember that until the show actually plays and gets recorded in the DVR, the VOD version is what's available. I hope that helped. 🙂
For shows you've recorded w/ the DVR, yes you can skip past commercials. For the other movies and shows available on-demand, though, there's no way to skip the commercials. There's no ad free option.
Why would I want to subscribe to NFL Sunday Ticket? Right now I'm on a 21 day free trial and every game is LO KED EXCEPT ONE which I'm getting on reg local networks on my tv. How can you try it to see if you would like to purchase such a high cost TV programming? This sucks that all our Networks took on to greed instead of giving back to their patriots Greed and your just another network that take the football out of family football. Thanks for nothing but you can keep your $300 and something program cost in fact put it where the sun doesn't shine. A FOOTBALL FAN THATS LOVES HER FOOTBALL BUT NOT AT YOUR COST!
To me it's too expensive this day and age anything over $40 a month it's too much considering you need internet and all this other stuff. When I tried it for free I ended up watching only one program that I actually liked it's just a rip off get Kodi and stream everything for free.
Can anyone who has RUclips tv and operate them using Roku remotes comment on if they are able to do most anything they need to do with the Roku remote? No need to by another more complex remote, like with Directv Stream's remote option (expensive if you have 4 tv's in the house)

Tired hulu but it is location based. Disliked that part. RUclips tv also has unlimited dvr.
Unplug your router 😭😭😭
Unplugging yout TV don't do shit lol
At least she used one period at the very end of the paragraph.
MLB network isn’t even included anymore! And don’t you have to pay for nba league pass to even get NBA tv
Nice review, some things I don’t like is that it’s difficult for a senior to navigate and complex. I wish there was a option to simplify it .
I am 75 and I know what you mean but one advantage is at my age I fall asleep in the chair while searching for a program,(HAHA )
I'm a senior and love YTTV.
"I don’t like is that it’s difficult for a senior to navigate and complex."

RUclips is not really meant for seniors.

I am curious about Hulu because while I like the option i am hearing that it's glitchy and has many issues and its frustrating
Matt, you did a great job explaining everything. Thank You!
You're very welcome! Thanks, Bill!
You get used to it.
Does it have the nfl channel, to watch season games?
Thank you in advance
@@MISSUNIVERSE1830 It does have NFL channel, but I think you get whatever is allocated to your area--West vs. East, usually. Suggest you go to YTTV site and look for answer, or even e-mail/call customer service (which is good) and ask them.
This was comprehensive, thank you.

Thanks for breaking it down so slowly and simple! Thinking about getting it with my Roku stick.
I could care less about being "up to the minutes live". thank you. Joe
Good question, I’ll wait for the reply too.
Yes you can pause
You can pause although if a show is VOD you will have to wait for commercials.

I believe that if they want to have RUclips TV, they should have that as a lifetime subscription as long as you have RUclips premium, as well as RUclips kids and RUclips music all on one app together and you get everything as part of a premium package
Question: Can you DVR shows and then play them on a TV not at your home, ie. on vacation?

I read somewhere if you have a VPN (maybe someone here can explain exactly how VPN works.. b'cas I have no clue.) but if you have it, you can use RUclips TV in Canada.... I know that it stands for virtual privacy network, but other than being able to access sites like RUclips TV, I don't know if there are any downsides, benefits, or what.. to it . 🤔 I'm not in Canada, but maybe someone here has heard about it?
I just got sling tv orange and blue with discovery plus add free and amc+ for under $70.
Do you need a Roku or any additional devices. One other video said you needed a Roku. Thanks in advance?

I recently paused my RUclips tv subscription and tried Hulu for a month, and it had buffering issues at the beginning of almost every show on the live portion which was very aggravating, so I reactivated my RUclips tv subscription.
I don't think it's the internet that's the problem.
I wasn't impressed at all with RUclipstv. Missing channels and filler channels.

Thank you !! You helped me make my decision .
Glad I could help!
Can I upload a docuseries to RUclips tv? I’ve got 8 1 hour episodes of d1 college cheerleading
You can’t upload something to YT TV like you can with RUclips. You’d need to have a deal with one of the linear broadcast or cable channels for that to work and that’s well beyond my wheelhouse.

I can fast forward though commercials. You lie.
Yes, you can, but you can't on VOD shows.
