Young Royals stars Edvin Ryding & Omar Rudberg on season 2 of the hit LGBTQ+ Netflix series

- Ahead of the launch of season 2 on November 1st 2022, Edvin Ryding and Omar Rudberg who play star-crossed lovers Wilhelm and Simon in the hit @Netflix series Young Royals, speak exclusively with The Queer Review's editor James Kleinmann about why their characters make a couple worth fighting for, how they each prepare for the show's emotional scenes, and their thoughts on a Young Royals/Heartstopper crossover.
As season 2 opens, we're reunited with Prince Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding) and Simon (Omar Rudberg), and the rest of their classmates as they return to the prestigious Hillerska school following winter break. As Wilhelm tries to take revenge on his cousin August, and win back Simon’s trust, he creates problems that threaten the entire Swedish monarchy.
The first season of Young Royals is streaming now on Netflix, season 2 premiere on November 1st 2022.

So much about the true nature of these beautiful young men comes through in this interview. They are both highly sensitive, deeply intelligent, and acutely aware of the conundrums of being alive. The world continues to benefit from their immense talent and auspicious presence on the planet!
the afection they have for each other off the set, is so beautiful.
i had to smile when one of them said "for a year, since the last shooting for season 1, they have been 'Edvin and Omar, not Simon and Will.
And they have genuine chemistry. Edvin and Omar talk to each other like they've been friends forever.
Can we talk more about this interview? Like, wow. The questions are so original, incredible and respectuful. The interviewr is so respectful, calm and objective. Congrats! Honestly, this interview is my fav until now.

I agree with Edvin, I think a Young Royals and Heartstopper crossover is a bit much they are both very great shows but both have completely different settings and moods that I don't think would blend together well!
In my opinion, I think young royals is a more adult version of heartstopper and heartstopper is a more pg version of young royals

I could see a crossover. Now that Wille is the Crown Prince and has publicly come out, perhaps the Crown will ship him off to a foreign land to complete his studies ie: the UK 🤔 tada! You’re welcome 😅
@@robert7567 On the surface it looks like it's possible. But: Young Royals needs a dark and hyper realistic style, while Heartstopper contradicts that with a need for a light and hyper romantic style. That's impossible to bridge, and here is why: the story world of Young Royals is unrealistic: a boarding school where a crown prince gets enchanted by the singing of a socialist low class boy. It feels however realistic, because of the realism in style: the characters have for example pretty heavy acne, which gives it even a documentary feel. Compare that to Heartstopper: the arena is from the start believable: a regular school where boy meets boy. It is so realistic, that it is almost dull, but the hyper romantic, even cartoonesque style doesn't make it dull at all. Now, imagine a Swedish prince covered with acne in an English school with kids with beautiful skin covered in a layer of cartoon butterflies, flowers and hearts... it would harm both story worlds. Both storylines will fall apart.

How a beautiful interview, they work really hard to get into their characters not just playing it in the set and that's it. They carry their characters with them, thinking about how they feel, put a playlist to understand their emotions more and more. That's exactly what makes yr a good show, the incredible cast and crew. I respect them so much

Can we just stop and appreciate how fluent these young men are in English although it's not their mother tongue? 😮
In Sweden everyone learns English already in primary school 🙂 That's why all the cast of YR speaks English and they all do the English dubbing of YR themselves. From age 14 to 18 Omar was in a very popular Swedish boyband that sang in English.

@@gerganakantcheva8176 Even when you start english at primary school, it's not everyone who become biligual. They are both excellent!
@@stephanelarocque77 True! But generally, Swedish people are very good at English. I personally think a big reason for this is is because we are one of the few countries who never dub movies or tv shows (except movies for very young children, for obvious reasons), so we all grew up with subtitles and thus were exposed to a lot of English!
Btw, I'm not trying to diminish the fact that they are very good at English, I just mean it's very common in Sweden :)

agree. plus, it's 100% not viable. i think the possibility of both casts + the cast from other LGBTQ+ series (let's not forget about other important representations like First Kill, for example!) doing a photoshoot or a joint interview/discussion on these topics would be way, way more meaningful and possible. but that's just my opinion
Watch their gay times interview where Omar randomly pitched in the idea of crossover with heartstopper in light hearted way. Ofcourse even they know it's not possible. They were just playing with the idea for fun and nothing more.
A crossover maybe not but a cameo would be fun. Like Nick and Charlie randomly walking around in Bjästad and coming across Wille and Simon and I don't know just like running into each other with Charlie saying sorry that would be really fun

They saved my life just by their existence I will never thank them enough ! I love their characters but even more them at all, they are such a safe place and I when I don’t feel good, see them is like a medicine lol

They're both such amazing actors, and it really shows how much they care about the story they're telling. Young Royals is a masterpiece, future classic.

@@Imetwurld_ I think it's cute a definitely good for the audience it's targeting (young teens). I do prefer young royals but I find heartstopper to be a nice break from the chaos that is reality. It's just a few hours of a simple love story that won't end up in pain.

Even though they are not a real couple their visual looks so good together it's really pretty to look at, such an eye catching pair
Edvin looks a lot like his character when he's nervous while Omar looks so different, less innocent :)
That could be because Edvin is closer in age to his character and still a teenager himself, while Omar is 7 years older than his character. ☺️

Thank you Edvin & Omar for magically bringing Wille & Simon alive. 🥰 Their love will burn hotter than ever, and it will leave painful blisters on our hearts because there is so much drama, so much pain. They way they hug int the trailer for season 2 says it all - they cannot be without each other, nor can they be together. It tears their souls to pieces and unleashes a mighty flame of desire and longing and dark thoughts. We can already feel their despair, their jealousy, their wish for revenge, their need to just bloody be with each other. Oh how I wish season 2 to have the happy end Wille and Simon deserve. And if not - there must be a season 3 to make it happen. Them not being together is NOT AN OPTION! 🔥⚜🔥
i’m so ready for season 2 only 10 DAYS TO GO! i know that it’s going to be amazing and that everybody worked just as hard as they did on s1 and that i’m going to bawl. also their english is getting so good!

It’s so interesting to me how Edwin sounds very American when he talks sometimes- considering (I believe) most people learn British English and accents in most of Europe

@@roncaron8939 Or Nick and Charlie could go on holiday to Sweden and visit the castle (I imagine the Royal castle of Sweden is more of a tourist attraction than Herne Bay/ Rochester), and then they just bump into Simon and Wilhelm there.

"Young Royals" is far better than I thought it would be! Honestly I have watched it numerous times! I love everything about! I have watched "Heartstopper" as well and I loved! I think a crossover would be super weird! I know that Omar and Edvin say otherwise, but I find the shows so dramatically different that a crossover would not be great. "Young Royals" is very serious, and plays on some tremendously interesting issues. "Heartstopper" is fun, feel good show. I love "Heartstopper", and there is so much to love! Please no crossover.

A crossover wouldn't be good, the shows works on completely different vibes.. but.. that being said... people go on vacation.. They could just pass in the background as tourists, as an easter egg... that alone would blow peoples mind :)

The easiest Crossover would be if they let Crown Prince Wilhelm make a LGBTQ+ related public statement (going public with his relationship) in english for the international media and it spreads through social media and Nick and Charlie watch it together. (The interviewer who wanted to interview Simon spoke English) Nick and Charlie could then post a sweet comment and Simon could show it to Wille.
I love Edvin Ryding and Omar Rudberg on Young Royals from the start, but they're best friends in real life, they're from Sweden and I miss it on yesterday's video!!
