this is my anthem after leaving my ex of almost ten years. He was so toxic and abusive and he tries to guilt me for leaving him. Through out the years he always left me for shallow reasons and would come back if those other women didn't give him the time of day, he would belittle me and make me feel insecure and would get physical with me and blame me because 'I wouldn't respond to him.' Now, I am almost 700 miles awayy from him and couldn't be more happier.
I can also relate to this, I was in an abusive relationship that hurt me emotionally and mentally, I would always cut myself because he would guilt me for being wrong for whatever I did....especially to the point I couldn’t escape. He manipulated me, and hurt my friends. I was stuck there for 3 years and couldn’t escape till my current bf helped me escape and was caught up and couldn’t help but feel guilty, but he said it’s ok and he wanted to help. I couldn’t be happier with someone who helped me escape from a relationship I was stuck in for 3 years. And now I’ve gone so long without cutting or drinking, including taking drugs. I feel like I’ve become so much better thanks so my best friend to my lover that helped me...I too can say I’m happier then ever
This song really needs to be the anthem for anyone who has come out of that dark side of any abusive relationship and realized just how much better off they really are. That sense of peace when you realize you didn't do anything wrong at all, wanting to be treated with love and respect, because you DESERVE it!
