  • Liverpool has one of the oldest and longest established black communities in Britain, yet its music makers struggle to get their voices heard. Yaw Owusu, an independent music creative specialising in empowering under-represented voices, cultures and stories, guides us through some of the city’s Black music histories, the challenges of ensuing Black genre-based music is heard and equitable, and his championing of today’s music makers.
    Yaw discusses pioneering artists The Chants and The Real Thing, the social clubs of L8, his ground-breaking work with Urbeatz, curating Liverpool International Music Festival (LIMF) and LIMF Academy, creating the Black music festival On Record, and much more.
