Hi Ammar, you did a very nice job with this review/comparison. I've been using the AX100 for years and am looking forward to this upgrade as the AX700 seems to be exactly what I need while keeping things small and handy. Wishing you the best!
Can I ask you please: I've AX100, do you think that is OK to upgrade to AX700? About HDR is a BIG difference of a quality compering with AX100? Thank you for your answers.
Hello; Yes it is worth the upgrade if you have HDR TV to watch the HDR contents, also the AX700 comes with s-log profiles and better focus system. Thanks.
I was waiting for Berlin IFA 2017 for new Sony (AX1000 or any number (REPLACEMENT FOR AX100)) with amazing features. 5-6 months wait and I little bit disappointed about image stabilisation system. I expected ISS (image stabilisation system) something like in Sony FDR AX 53 and 4K 60/50 fps. So now little bit confused. Which camera to buy - Sony AX 100 - £400 cheaper (amazon £1399) (or cheaper at grey market) , or Sony AX700 for £1799 pre-ordered... How in your opinion? My first experience with Sony is Sony FDR-X3000. Amazing 4K action camera. So could you say me your opinion (Only 4K video) please.
+Saulius Lag Thanks for your comments, I passed through this before I have the AX100 as my main camera, the Sony AX53 as b-roll and backup camera and I have the Sony action camera X3000 for Action staff. I am using the AX53 and the action cam for vlogging and were I need best stabilization and I use the AX100 when I want the best image quality or when I don't have enough light. To make it easy bro if you don't do color grading and you are not interested in features like s-log and HDR just go for refurbished or used AX100. One more thing if you are shooting events and documentaries for clients consider the AX700 for the dual memory cards, memory cards failures can happen any time. Yes you are right I was expecting 4K 60P and BOSS image stabilization, but still the AX700 the best compared to what others offering, the same features and 60P with Canon 3500 dollars!!!
Very helpful - thanks! One of the best explanations of the change. I've been circling the internet looking for the best explanation of upgrade and difference btw ax 33, 53,100, 700 and you did it. Going to invest in the ax700 record my yoga videos.
If they had simply just included the BOSS stabilization....this would be the ultimate bang for the buck. But they always leave something really really important out of the recipe every time it seems......BUMMER..... :-(
I have the Sony AX100. If you're using HD, it's simply perfect. Videos are clear and very smooth. Everything works perfect except when you try use 4K. The minute you switch it to 4K, the screen becomes VERY SLOW and laggy. You will notice is even before you start recording. The videos you record will be clear but any kind of movement in the video such as someone moving or a waterfall and so on would be VERY LAGGY. I couldn't find a setting to fix that whatsoever. I tried all the different settings. I displayed vidoes directly from camera to 4K TV, after burning them into Blu Ray discs and using UHD Blu Ray player, through computer, every possible way. Still the same problem. The 4K videos on the AX100 camcorder are simply too laggy and not worth the price NOR the size of the camcorder. Does the AX700 fix these problems?
Thanks for the reply. I highly doubt it makes any difference what memory card I use because the problem occurs even before I put in a memory card and record. I don't need to record anything and play it in order to see the problem. If you try something very quickly, you would do me and everyone else a favor my friend. If you can set the file format to HD and place the camcorder in front of a moving object or even just move your hand and watch it on the small LCD screen. Don't need to record. Then switch file format to 4K and do the same thing. Do you notice ANY difference regardless of how small the difference is? I mean how smooth the movement is. 4K is not as smooth as far as I can see. Please try it and let me know:)
@@saadagha9642 Hi there...no problem, the faster your shutter speed, the less lag you will see, especially when panning the camera. For instance, if you shoot at 25fps, try and set the shutter speed to double your frame rate, so at 25fps, go for a shutter speed of 50. The faster the shutter speed, the darker your image will be but only slightly but you can compensate with a larger exposure. I usually will set my shutter speed to double my frame rate, especially if filming movement. You can try this with your camera. Set the frame rate to 25 and the shutter speed to 25 and pan the camera left to right. You can see how the movement stutters. Now set the shutter speed to 50 while keeping the frame rate at 25. Better? That's the way to do it...double the shutter speed to your frame rate. Ammar Technology has a video all about shutter speed here on his channel you can watch.
Like your review. Sony have made some great improvements to this range (I have an X70 and my wife an AX53). It is worth pointing out that the new NX80 and Z90 do have additional features from the AX100.
What do you think of Sony PXW-X70? I have about $1700 to spend. Want a second camera with a simple microphone for outdoor projects...has to have a simple audio and not cold/hot sensitive which is why I was encouraged a couple years ago to get the az100 (zoom mic and can weather the storm) Do you recommend x70 overt the a x 100 or ax700?
X70 will be an excellent choice still it will be great camera for years to come. As a second camera why you do not look to Sony HXR-NX80 used it has all the new features in AX700 and it adds pro audio
+Δημήτρης Γιαννακός With the 1' image sensor you will get decent image quality in dim and low light situations with some noise for sure. The image quality in low light will not be like full frame S7

Excellent review Ammar. Can you produce a tutorial on the AX 700 menu which is a big change from the AX 100. Include how to set up D-Log 2 and 3. This information is nowhere on the RUclips.
Thanks Roy for your comments. I am preparing for an upgrade this year for many gears and equipment and I will take this into consideration. You are right the new menu system in a big change.
I also have the AX53 but sometimes i have problems with Focusing whats your opinion of the Focusing on it, i was tempted in getting the AX700 but the Zoom range on it isn't as high as the AX53 and i film a lot of Buzzards in the Sky and need a longer zoom.
The focus system on the AX700 is more reliable and it is snappy. It is really fast. For the extra zoom I saw some lens adapters on Amazon to give something like 1.5x extra range
Did they announce a successor to the AX53? I've been looking to spend around $1000 for a camera for a long time but didn't want to buy it knowing something new could be coming around the corner. Did they announce anything new and improved in that price range?
+Jonathan Giles So far no successor to the AX53 got announced. I belive the AX53 really doing well. We need to wait the coming CES 2017 then we can tell.
+YourProRuben Channel 2 maybe As per Sony yes the functionality is there in the new camera as well, but I can see there is no dedicated button for it like before, maybe customizable. Excellent question. Thanks

Come on......why on earth this does not have 4k 50/60p recording? and the waiting goes on ....since Ax100 introduced in 2014. I bought FDR AX53 last year disappointed with 24P and was looking for an upgrade . Now I may have to go for Canon Legria GX10
+Boby-Boban Videos Thanks for your comments, I was expecting the AX700 will come with 4k 50/60p, but for me the frames per seconds not the main factor or feature to decide which camera to get. Yes the Canon GX10 will give 4k 60 but it is 600 dollars more and no HDR for me HDR more important than frames per seconds, by spending the 600 dollars on more batteries, accessories, lighting i will get better results. I have the AX53 and AX100 so I can use most of my accessories including the batteries, this is really nice. But the GX10 amazing camera as well specially with 150 MB/s data rate. Still there is possibility Sony will bring firmware update to the AX700 may be paid upgrade.
thanks, im looking for a camera that will handle good sports action focus at players coming towards me, and want to atleast get 60fps to slow down in slow motion in editing, im currently using sony hdr-cx405, so im just trying decide what upgrade will be best for less than $2k , thanks for any suggestions you have!
Who has FDR AX100 does not have to spend money on ax700. Both cameras record 4k 25p PAL and in some situations, the image of moving objects recorded in 4K 25p is not of the best quality. Both cameras do not send 4k 60p signals through the HDMI socket, so you can not improve your recordings or make 4K scenes in slow motion using an external recording device. Both cameras do not have automatic anti-flicker protection when filming using artificial light from the mains. You have to manually adjust the shutter speed.
+ygaziv Yes I was looking on some reviews, I was looking to some cases after I saw your comment. But the repair really expensive compared to the camera price new or used even.
I m using the sony 4k Fddax100,i m unable to play my 4k videos on my laptop(windows 7)..first it used to play now it doesnt..windows media player says "the player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file...i tried with vlc but only few got played and rest didn't..Can you help?
AmmarTechnology I have the 53 and you helped me decide if I should get the 700 over the 100. Going with 700 even tho I’d rather have the simple touch screen menu system of the AX100.
+DavidisDawei In terms of image stabilization yes, but when it comes to the image quality AX100 and AX700 will give better image quality and more cinematic look

+Richard's World Traveller What is on the wall just some gaming staff, Lord of the rings War at North limited edition. Yes I traveled to Bahrain, it is nice country sure I will go there again.
+Danny Fye Good question, still I did not put my hands on the AX700. In my full review I will cover this. By the way with the AX100 you can view your video while recording 4K if you are using external recorder like the automos shogun.
Thanks much for the reply! I have been doing some more research and other things I thought I should do before I replied again. I just recently bought me an OB (Open Box) Sony AX100 from B&H. It is the only category in the used dept that includes the manufacturer’s warranty. The sharpness and resolution is out of this world with this camera! I noticed that it is a bit too sharp with close-ups and faces so I used the Hit Film grain remover with a setting of 3 and it is now perfect! I watched the demo video for the AX700 and noticed that the details were somewhat less than the AX100. I am not sure how accurate the specs are but it looks like the AX700 may have less resolution or it just might not be as sharp as the AX100. I did an AX100 vs. AX53 video that shows the HUGE difference between those cameras in moderately low light where it really counts. ruclips.net/video/uQABrETgH1U/видео.html The AX53 in that test is not much better than an SD camera. The words on my washing machine can be read somewhat with the AX100 and almost not at all with the AX53. So IF the AX700 does have less resolution, then that might be a problem. I could sell my Sony NX100 and return the AX100 and use multiple sources to get the AX700, but then I am doing all of that for a yet unknown camera with too many unanswered questions at this time. I cannot afford to invest in a camera with too many questions especially when it takes a procedure that cannot be undone. So I maybe I should pass on the Sony AX700 at this time? After the AX700 is released and after there are a number of reviews and after a firmware or two then I might save up some money and consider getting it. The one BIG problem; is the used sale price of the AX100 will most likely drop considerably and any money I get for it will represent a HUGE loss! Most of my life I have done a great job of knowing when to sell old items and when to buy the new ones. But now that I am getting older, I am getting very, very rusty doing so. My brain is tired trying to figure this out. I have until October 19 to return the AX100. I know that the AX700 is to be release in October but I have no idea what part of the month that will be. Do you have any ideas as to the actual release date? Thanks Much, www.thestoprock.com
First of all, thanks for your comments, I really enjoyed reading it, this is what I am doing usually, getting more familiar with my gears and keep reading and testing to get the most out of the gears. All AX700 video samples we have so far not for the final production version which expected to release by 19th of October, also all the samples we have for videos on RUclips and usually RUclips doing a lot of compression for the uploaded videos so I can not give my final feedback based on video on RUclips, I watch the videos on my big screen with the original codec then I decide (With the full details and quality straight out of the camera). I can understand the AX100 provides more details and more quality than AX53 because of the larger image sensor in the AX100 and more advanced features shipped with the AX100. For the AX100 & AX700 they share the same Image sensor size but as per Sony it new image sensor (improved) in the AX700 also the AX700 comes better focus system and I can tell from now better focus system will give way better video than AX100 and AX53, better focus system this means the camera will focus faster and more accurate and things should look sharper in the footage specially when watching the footage on big screen. My recommendation will be if you are not looking for s-log pictures profiles for color grading or if you are not looking for HDR and you don't have 4K HDR TV or if you do not need 2 memory cards, then the save your money and the AX100 will be more than enough. Thanks again and keep being friend to this channel.
Yes, if the AX700 had the Boss stabilization and 4K at 60fps, I'd get it.

AX700 focus system really fast compared to the AX100. But 60 P only available in Full HD, with 4K up to 30 P
You have to manually adjust the shutter speed.
frequently I get E:62:10 on my AX100 - Do you get it on yours? Do you get it on AX700?
Hello; no I am not getting this error!
Did you send it to Sony repair?
They ask over 200$ for that
Oh my god! shame on them, what a customer service !
Not sure if there is other non Sony repair centers where you can get fix with less
It started 6 months after I bought it. When googled it turned up to be a known Sony problem on many cams.
+ygaziv Yes I was looking on some reviews, I was looking to some cases after I saw your comment. But the repair really expensive compared to the camera price new or used even.

I'm still looking and evaluating for the best option.
Waiting tends to lead to a price reduction or a newer and improved model
But a much smaller sensor on the AX53
Very informative.
Thanks
You're awesome! Thanks!
+Patrick Pecora Thanks appreciated.
Amhar. What is that on you wall? Oh, I just noticed you are, or were in Bahrain. I lived there for 14 months.
+Richard's World Traveller What is on the wall just some gaming staff, Lord of the rings War at North limited edition. Yes I traveled to Bahrain, it is nice country sure I will go there again.
Excellent review
+Ahmed Adel Thanks
Where is the 4k 60fps? Thats one reason why i don't see a need to upgrade from the 100
+Adam Kuperstein For me 4K HDR and s-slog more important than frame rate. It depends on each person needs. Thanks for your comments.
Thanks
+Anton V. Welcome.
Would love to see a side by side comparison video of the AX700 and AX53 in low light.
I can do it for AX100 VS AX53
AX100 and AX700 will produce similar results in low light
@@AmmarTechnology please do. Is ax53 adequate indoor low lighting?
The image sensor in AX53 very small and not that capable for low light situations
Thanks a lot Ammar. Great review. Like & subscribe.
+Saulius Lag Thanks and Welcome.
Unlike the AX100, is it possible to view the video on an external monitor while recording 4k?
www.thestoprock.com
Thanks Much,

Cool video but add music animation and lense flares.. ☺
