Ros telling Tyrion "Don't forget me" and Tyrion promising not to feels very coded - Ros is telling him "Don't forget that I could have told Cersei that I'm not who she thinks I am. You - the Hand of the King - owe me" and Tyrion telling her that he acknowledges he owes her a debt and recognises her skill in playing the game and biding her time. Ros doesn't get enough recognition for strategising her way from the North into a more powerful position imo.

Robert didn't give Stannis Storm's End, but he did give him the lordship of Dragonstone, which in theory is a greater honour. Dragonstone was the ancestral seat of House Targaryen and was where most of their dragons were bred. During the Targaryen dynasty, holding Dragonstone was basically synonymous with being considered the heir to the throne, and when there were still dragons living on the island, it was also one of the most strategically important castles in Westeros. But... after the dragons died out, Dragonstone was basically just a barren rock with very little importance, so, in a symbolic sense, Robert is bestowing a great honour on Stannis by granting him the castle that used to be home to the heirs apparent of the old Targaryen kings, but in a practical sense (and Stannis is a very practical guy), it is just a storm-battered rock in the middle of nowhere, far from the comfort and influence of Kings Landing.

The whole thing where Dany believes she can't have any more children doesn't really make sense in the show, and it's because they removed the line from the scene in the book that it comes from. In both the book and the show, after Mirri Maz Duur technically saves Khal Drogo from death and he's left there barely alive, Dany asks when he will return to her or when he will be as he was. In the show, Mirri Maz Duur says "When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and the mountains blow in the wind like leaves". But in the book, there's one more line which is "When your womb quickens again and you bear a living child. Then he will return and not before." In the books, Dany takes that to mean that all of those things will never happen, meaning that Mirri Maz Duur was telling her she'll never have children. And that makes sense, but for some reason in the show they kept the part where Dany thinks Mirri Maz Duur prophesied that she'd never bear a child but took out the line that made her think that. It's very weird.

The shadow baby was a spell. It killed Renly, then ceased to exist. Of course, the Red Woman could always make a new one.

Truth. In the book, she made two(one to kill Renly, who was unprotected and the other to kill the Castellan of Storms End, Cortnay Penrose, who was refusing to give up Roberts bastard son Edric Storm(replaced with another bastard because of lazy writing). Davos had to smuggle Melisandre closer because Storms End had some magic in it.

Me, reading the title: (Puppet glancing away theme)
    Book facts:
Asha initially mocks Theon when she comes, but he says aloud that it was blood for blood, two Stark sons for two Greyjoys and she clearly approves.
Theon initially is able to keep the Northern host from attacking by using Rodrik Cassel's only daughter as a hostage(since he isn't dead at this point, as Theon never executes him).
5:54, this line was originally said by Ned to Bran after Bran sees the Nights Watch deserter executed.
Brienne is much uglier in the books than she is in the show. She's described as having crooked teeth, a wide mouth, swollen lips, shoulder length hair like straw, a nose that's been broken at least a few times and freckles covering her face. The only pretty thing about her is said to be her eyes.
Brienne and Jaime have insulting names for each other on their journey to Kings Landing. Brienne only refers to him as Kingslayer, while he only refers to her as wench. They travel with his cousin(who he didn't kill)though he is killed by outlaws on the journey.
Arya doesn't serve Tywin in the books, but Roose Bolton, who takes Harrenhal. She doesn't trust him enough to reveal who she is and when she asks if he'll take her with him when he leaves, he looks at her "as if his dinner had started speaking", as he is not kind to his servants like Lord Eddard was.
Arya's three deaths of the book are these:
Chyswyck, a Clegane man at arms who was abusive to her on the march to Harrenhal(hitting her in the face and laughing at funny jokes). After hearing him tell a story of a gang rape done by the Mountain and his men and laughing, she has him killed(though he only falls from the walls).
Weese: An understeward of Harrenhal who is in charge of her and beats her regularly. His own dog kills him(and its suggested later than Jaqen gave the dog a poison called basilisks blood, which sends anything with warm blood into a mad rage). However, it's just before he is killed that Arya realizes she was an idiot and chose two nobodies to die when she could have Tywin, Gregor or any of the big time leaders of the war effort murdered, but is too late to change her target and Tywin leaves before she can stop it.
Jaqen Hghar: Arya convinces Jaqen to help free a few hundred northern prisoners who are brought in, which he achieves with the help of the two other former "wagon"prisoners, Rorge and Biter and some scalding broth before taking out the guards. However, it turns out this rescue was pointless, as they were sent in as a Trojan horse and the sellsword leader, Vargo Hoat, was already planning the betrayal of Amory Lorch, the current castellan.
Book version of Cersei's betrayal is so much more epic. Cersei has Tommen sent away to Rosby(a castle north of Kings Landing)to protect him from Stannis and Tyrion and Tyrion has the castle taken, wanting Tommen under the protection of his own men. Cersei has Alayaya(the whore covering for Tyrion and Shae)raped and beaten and Tyrion acts like a monster to scare Cersei, threatening to do the same to Tommen for everything Cersei does to the whore. His threat to Cersei terrifies her to the point that she orders him out in absolute terror.
Talisa mentions how the Volantene slaves have tattoo's on their faces. In the books, Stannis has a fool named Patchface, who has red and green diamond motley tatooed on his face(he had been bought and freed by Stannis's parents, hoping he would teach Stannis to laugh), but when they returned home, their ship sank and they drowned. Patchface was found on shore days later and survived, but lost all his wit and was very changed(he sings songs in the book and many of them are prophetic of things coming in the book).
Stannis's holding of Storm's End is very important in the context of the war. Losing your castle means that you're seen as weak and if Robert had lost Storms End before he fought Rhaegar on the Trident, he would have lost all support(in the books, the Frey's, before Robb even breaks his oath, talk about how Robb is weak because the castle fell).
"What is the point of the backhanded compliment?"
Stannis isn't cruel. He's very blunt and doesn't know how to be courtly. That's the difference between him and Renly(but in the books, Renly is a jerk. He knew about Cersei's children being bastards and was planning to have Robert put aside Cersei and marry Margaery).
"Couldn't you get pregnant?" The thing that Mirri Maz Duur said to Dany suggests she'll never bear a living child again, part of the curse done to her in revenge for her people.
    Next up, "Blackwater"!

Keeping Jaime wasn't an option because he would've been killed that night. From Cat's perspective, it was either Jaime is killed tonight against the King's orders which would be really bad for Robb internally because he now has to punish his own men for killing a Lannister which will not go over well. Or take a huge gamble and send Jamie off, hoping there would be some kind of benefit, even if they don't actually get the girls back. There would still be internal problems, but the men would be angry at Cat for letting Jamie go and not angry at the King for punishing them, which is better. Waiting until Robb is back does nothing, they'll just kill him the next chance they get. Also Robb isn't the one physically guarding Jaime, so him being around doesn't really matter.

Catelyn DID betray Rob, but her thinking isn't unsound. If the men get Jamie, or if Rob allows it, Jamie's death could mean the girls die. If Jamie is returned, maybe the girls will not be returned to her, but there's a great odds that regardless of what happens their lives will be spared at a minimum. She wants them back, but more so she's just trying to protect their lives

And also, remember that Tyrion had sent Lord Baelish to Catelyn earlier with exactly thát proposal. So if Brian handed Jamie over to Tyrion, Catelyn had some reason to trust that the 2 of them would maybe be able to get the girls free.

The blood magic that made Daenerys lose her child in the attempt to revive Aquaman/Ronon/Drogyn also made it impossible for her to bear another child. I think that has been referenced in the past, but it's made clear here. So when Daenerys finally wins the Iron Throne, she will have no heir to sit upon it when she dies.
BTW, Robb being engaged to the Frey girl, even if it was only a toll to cross the bridge, means that any liaison he has with the nurse girl will be (a sort of) cheating. At best dishonorable, at worst betrayal of his vows and promises. Yes, they have wonderful chemistry, but remember the Whedon rule: You don't get something for nothing.

    • @paulpenna5615
      @paulpenna5615 Месяц назад +4

Plus, he didn't only get to cross the bridge. Lord Frey gave him men. A large part of Robb's army are Frey men. He needs to marry the Frey girl to keep those men loyal.
Of course, Walder Frey would likely be okay with Robb sleeping with other women, even siring a few bastards (he has plenty of his own), as long as Robb still marries his daughter.

On the "Brien is ugly" thing - the show casting tends to make everyone much, much hotter than their book versions. Both Brien and Tyrian are ugly according to the book but were cast with attractive actors - particularly Brien, who always makes my lesbian heart go pitter patter.

Brienne of the books: Brittle strawlike hair, crooked teeth, freckles all over, nose thats been broken a few times, with a wide mouth and swollen lips, to the point that she's mocked as "The Beauty"by Renly's men(and even Renly told Loras that he thinks she's ridiculous).
      Show Brienne: Pretty and tall.
Tyrion of the Books: Black and pale yellow hair, jutting forehead, twisted, mismatched eyes,
      Show version: Peter Dinklage.

So,Yay!!! Robb is in love with some new girl. (It's like a fairy tale!) He's a king that makes promises. He made a promise to marry someone to get something he wanted, then when he got it and no longer needed what he made the promise for, he threw it to the wind. Is that the type of leader you'd want or one you think the people in this society would follow? And yes, Kat Stark just gave up the only leverage they had. This series is not Shrek or the movie "you've got mail". The game of thrones is a dangerous game. The idea of fairy tale endings went up in the air when Ned stark was beheaded after being told he'd save his daughters and get sent to the wall. This series is more of a thriller than a drama because there are more twists, turns and consequences than a drama where the plot line follows a happy ending. Be ready for many twists and turns and Characters to have more depth than you originally thought.

Caitlyn does another blunder that will have terrible consequences
    and so does Theon
Tyrion is still the coolest guy in westeros, and he makes a great duo with Varys
