- It has been 20 years since certified master groomer Kitty Dekeersgieter groomed a Bichon Frisé completely! Is she still able to do it? In this video she guides you through her grooming proces of a 3 year old Bichon Frisé Maddie.
STEPS OF THE GROOMING SESSION:
- First brush through of the dog's coat 1:20
- Clipping between the pads, at the anus, at the tail and around the eyes 2:13
- Clipping the dog's nails 3:37
- Cleaning the dog's ears 4:23
- Bathing the dog 5:23
- Drying the dog 9:37
- Brushing out the dog's coat 10:31

I have 2 rescue Bichons and tend to keep their coats short. I couldn’t keep up with this show dog style however amazing it looks. I take my dogs to the beach and the forest everyday and they go swimming and rolling in mud.

Thank you so much for posting such an educational video on how to groom a bichon frise. I just recently got a bichon, he is now 14 weeks old. I am eager to learn how to groom him. This video gave me a step-by-step guide to how to do grooming the right way. However, I know this will take some time for my puppy to get used to. But this is the method I will be doing to him and he will get used to. Thank you so so much again. I really appreciate this video ❤❤❤.

So sorry about your sweet bichon. I have 3 at the Rainbow Bridge and two now that were surrendered to Small Paws Rescue out of Tulsa. Losing a bichon breaks our hearts. We don't stop missing them..they are a sweet breed. Wonderful companions. May you find future happiness with a bichon once again.

Thank you I have been grooming my Maltese for years but I am getting a beautiful bichon from a rescue and this will help me immensely. I can't believe someone let him go. He is such a gorgeous dog. The bichon is of beautiful stock and I want to keep him looking his best! I appreciate you sharing your tool choices. I always wonder why groomers don't clean dogs more around the mouth and wonder is there a way to keep the mouth area looking cleaner? How would you remove that discoloration?

My Bischon has been abused by groomers and he had a good groomer. Then she had maternity leave. He got the half way job but they were rough I think. He's very jumpy around the face and his paws.
aww makes me miss my Bella Roes she was a bichon a trashy dog breeder that bread different kinds of breeds called me to see if i wanted to try to save a 3 week old puppy i had bella really fast she lived but the next day i got her all 5 of her brothers a sisters died mom stooped nursing when we got Bella fixed she had a kidney infection we didnt know about a she died
My Bichon is purebred but has tight white curls that form almost immediately after brushing.. I wish I could get her "poofier" but I think the hair is just a bit different.
hi , thank you for your comment , i don't see the coat , but i also can be a genetic thing . how old is your dog . is it a young dog , a teenager , this can change ofcourse when the adult coat is coming up ... good luck :-)
I love the look. It is so beautiful. However, I could never have the time to keep up with the maintenance. I have a Bichon, which is a rescue from a breeder, Annie Belle, such a wonderful girl. I have to say, though, she is the most stubborn dog. I believe it could be because of the way she was raised in the breeding facility. I do groom her myself since the pandemic forced my groomer to go out of business. I am an amateur compared to you. I find it so fascinating to watch groomers work their magic.

I’ve had many dogs throughout the years. I currently have a Bichon for the past 10 years (she’s 11).
I groom her.. it is so difficult and time consuming. I literally give her (me too) breaks when drying her. I recently broke my curved scissors when cutting her.
Any tips on grooming tools? Preferably not expensive, times have gotten tough

How long does it take you to complete this this groom? I'm a professional groomer, time frames are always a concern. I use similar techniques for my Bichon clients and my finish cut takes me about 2 hours 😬
Hello , thank you for your feedback and question , Well in real life , without video and taping every step of the way , it takes me from beginning to end , more than 2 hours. washing, drying, nails, ears, scissoring ,... sometimes 3 hours ...
Why do you always blow out the curls? Are there breeds where the curls are embraced?
Many groomers blow out the curls for an even cut. We also blow the coat straight because it makes it easier to see blemishes on the skin or tangles in the coat. As groomers, I feel it's important to know which customers like their dog's coat curly. I LOVE curls so I like to spray certain breeds down with leave in conditioner to bring the curls back.
As a groomer , we blow out the coat, to detangle the coat or get the coat tangle free ! Thats really important. if you don't blow dry the coat, you can get in to serious problems with heavy matts in the coat.We also blow out the curls, to scissor the dog. You can't properly scissor or groom the dogs coat When he has curls.
