I was born in Ellenville in 1947 in the old hospital. My dad worked at Pulling funeral home.Moved to Newburgh in the 50s.I haven't been back since. Gary Moulthrop
The entire Catskills went into the toilet. I had a great aunt who owned a farm right near Bethel. She could actually see the Woodstock music festival. Anyhow, it's sad to see what happened to the Catskill area.
Rural broadband and the information economy would help a lot. Many internet related companies would be able to offer quality of life for their employees in a town like Ellenville if the network infrastructure is available (are you listening Verizon Fios?) Hopefully the casino plans will help spur this commitment indirectly, Build it and they will come...
I think the answer to Ellenville's financial woes lies in the future use of the now vacated Channel Master/Hydro factory off of Rt 209 and the Nevele property also off 209. If the powers that be could put their heads together I believe the factory property could be re-purposed as a music or movie studio/entertainment area...or a summer water park/winter snow park. I envision seeing the word E L L E N V I L L E on the side of the ridge...like H O L L Y W O O D in California.
High school needs to do an updated documentary. The Monticello casino is thus far a losing business. perhaps the Nevele could be time share community, needs millions put into it to make it a resort. An Olympic training center...needs many elements to turn it around...new blood. Beautiful spot. A branch of Ulster SUNY. 21st cent. skills.
maybe a theme park in the winter a cross country ski area I rally do not see any major areas in Ulster county for cross country skiing. . channel master maybe a wood pellet factory
Great memories thanks for posting
My dad and two aunts grew up in Ellenville. I do agree that a casino would definitely help boost the village’s economic problems.

Worked at The Homowack during the 60s. Would come into town to eat at the Keyspot. Town was alive and thriving.
Gambling didn't come
everything used to be nicer.....everywhere!

I was mostly raised there. I now live in Texas. My mother worked in Channel Master then later Schrade.
