  • Today we are privileged to have Doctor Kevin Chu with us. He is a private practice urologist and men's health specialist in Los Angeles, California. With roots in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he pursued his undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley before attending medical school at the esteemed New York Medical College. Dr. Chu honed his expertise in urology through rigorous training at the University of Miami.
Shockwave therapy, originally developed for kidney stones, utilizes acoustic waves to induce a response in targeted tissues. While the mechanism for kidney stones involves breaking them up, shockwave therapy for ED operates differently. It stimulates the body's natural healing response, promoting neovascularization and tissue regeneration in the penis.
Addressing common concerns, Dr. Chu clarifies that shockwave therapy sessions are non-invasive and generally well-tolerated, with minimal side effects such as mild tingling or bruising. However, he emphasizes the importance of patient selection, cautioning that not all individuals may benefit equally from this treatment.
In terms of efficacy, there is ongoing debate surrounding shockwave therapy's success rates. While some studies suggest promising results, patient response varies, and factors like psychological components must be considered. He underscores the need for evidence-based medicine and encourages patients to seek reputable sources for information.
Dr. Chu advises patients to approach shockwave therapy with discernment, emphasizing the importance of informed decision-making and cautioning against misleading claims. By fostering open dialogue and prioritizing patient education, he aims to empower individuals in managing their sexual health effectively.

Dr. Chu, while visiting my Urologist I saw a poster on the wall of the room I was in about Shockwave Therapy for ED. I asked him what about Shockwave Therapy? He turned looked at the poster and said; “It doesn’t work. I don’t know why we still have that on the wall.” Comments?

Thank you for sharing. Shockwave therapy is currently being researched to determine if it is effective and for which populations. We plan to do an episode in the near future with updates.
