and above all she should learn and accept the fact that his simple rendering itself is so good that he does not need to improvise and the other artistes like her have to indulge in something different and some improvisation to match him and yes he always gives credit and respect to the music directors who are the real creators of those songs and he behaved like a good student but on the contrary when he was on stage where he did show his different moods and range and facets of his singing and improvisation in front of those same musicians in whose troupe he performed , they were all mesmerized and said rafi saab aap recordings par aisa hi kuch karte toh kitna acha hota gaana aur bhi zyaada sundar hojaata toh rafi saab said dekhiye aap story aur director aur us kirdaar ke lehaaz se us film ke scene ke hisaab se music compose karte hain toh us hisaab se wahi style sahi hota tha aur usi ki wajah se kaamyaab bhi hota tha maqbool ( means accepted and appreciated and popular) hota tha aur yeh stage hai jahan free for all hai aur audience paise dekar aati hai relax karne enjoy karne agar woh gaana utna acha nahi hota toh yahan unhi gaanon ke farmaayish bhi nahi hoti, so yeh donon alag alag situation ke lehaaz se donon apni jagah sahi hain. Look at this man's clear mindset and understanding and explanation. I think ungrateful people like asha whose popularity to some extent was due to rafi saab himself says so mean and wierd and cheap words for such a person and personality. Shocked to hear Ashaji's comment. Don't know what she was trying to say. Different style and different voice modulation for different actors... was it not improvisation? Or this is also taught by music director. Then why music directors didn't teach the same to other singers including Ashaji. Because that was not other singer's cup of tea. This was unique to Rafi Sahab only. Chahe jitna bhi improvisation kiye honge baaki singers, Rafi sahab version was always better than others. He always sang the best improvised version so no scope for further improvisation.... If u try for an improvised version of Rafi Sahab's version then it would be like Biriyani mein namak zyada ho gaya. Energy level, feel, depth, tehraav etc etc etc etc everything was perfect in Rafi Sahab's version. I don't know despite having all songs on public domain how these people can comment like these. जी नही,दुनिया के किसी भी संगीतक्षेत्र के किसी भी गायक से भी रफ़ी साहब का स्थान अधिक ऊंचा है। शास्रीय,भजन, कव्वाली,करूण रस, हास्य रस,वीर रस सभी में एक नंबर हैं। उनका जब गाना जब शुरू होता है,तो ए टू ज़ेड सभी गायकों की आवाज़ कितनी भी कर्णप्रिय क्यूं न हो, रफ़ी साहब की आवाज़ के सामने फिकी पडती भी है और लगती भी है। कारण जब सूरज निकलता है, तो सारे सितारे गायब हो जते हैं। लेकिन अफ़सोस कि इनको अभीतक भारतरत्न नही दिया गया।जो जिनकी औकात नही थी उनको दिया गया। धन्यवाद

How can she say that Rafi saheb did not give his own input? Absolutely wrong. He used to sing differently for different actors. That only he could do.Infact, he could do anything with his voice. He had his own style. No other singer could sing a song made for Rafi saheb. But he could sing any song composed for any other singer. But he believed a song is the brainchild of the composer and he should not dictate changes as per his own wish, such as some other singers do often.

Singing as per MDs instructions doesn't mean that he is not innovative or not talented. Maybe during that said song's recording there must have been a minor glitch where Rafi Saab must have taken a long time to listen and understand and perfectly sing according to the advising music nuances of Shammi Kapoor. This doesn't deserve Asha Bhonsle degradation of Rafi Saab's singing qualities. Shammi Kapoor didn't even mention about this glitch in his opinion on Rafi Saab. In fact Rafi Saab required comparatively fewer retakes than Asha Bhonsle to reach reach a final recording of a song

When Asha Bhosle was struggling as second or third rate singer, Rafi Sahab was top most singer. Lata Mangeshkar never ever said anything derogatory about Rafi Sahab. But Asha Bhosle has been in habit of talking loose about Rafi Sahab. She is herself a singing legend but pretty ordinary human being.

In Kerala some 50 years ago no body heard Hindi songs, but only Malayalam song. Once I went to relative' s home I chanced to hear a Hindi song. That voice was so attractive that entered into my mind and blood. Sine then I am a great fan of Rafi Saheb. When I am in depression, his song is a great soothing medicine for me. Great.
There are so many duets with Lata di and Asha bhonsale which Rafi saab sang much better ..how can Asha tai say something that he never made any efforts to improvise his songs...its sad and heartbreaking to see Asha tai to speak like this on public platforms..she did it on a t v channel as well ...if he did what his composers told to say then why dint they themselves sing them...its ridiculous to see her say such things for a legend such as Rafi saab...it gives an insight of her as a person. Rafi Saab's popularity was at its peak in 50s and 60s and in 70s too. The people of Kerala, particularly that of Malabar area and to some extent that of Cochin area were fond of Hindi songs of Rafi Saab and Lataji in 50s and 60s. (Rafi Saab had visited Cochin for musical concert atleast two times and in Malabar more number of times) Later, in 70s, the love for Hindi songs slowly diminished and further diminished in 80s to 90s and now in this Internet era, Hindi songs gained popularity once again.

In 1987 the great Maestro Naushad Ali visited aur county we had a beautiful get-together with him, I sang a Mohd Rafi song, and he was hery happy, and he commented so nicely on my song, I still keeping those precious comments and for me it's more precious than any Grammy award or so.

I grew up listening to Rafi ji,Lataji Asha ji and their music impacted me deeply. They moulded my very being and I still have not quite got over their influence. Of course, there were others too Who were good ,very good But for me, these three were my gods.

Shocked to hear Ashaji's comment. Don't know what she was trying to say. Different style and different voice modulation for different actors... was it not improvisation? Or this is also taught by music director. Then why music directors didn't teach the same to other singers including Ashaji. Because that was not other singer's cup of tea. He had his own style. No other singer could sing a song made for Rafi saheb. But he could sing any song composed for any other singer. But he believed a song is the brainchild of the composer and he should not dictate changes as per his own wish, such as some other singers do often.

Singing as per MDs instructions doesn't mean that he is not innovative or not talented. Maybe during that said song's recording there must have been a minor glitch where Rafi Saab must have taken a long time to listen and understand and perfectly sing according to the advising music nuances of Shammi Kapoor. This doesn't deserve Asha Bhonsle degradation of Rafi Saab's singing qualities. Shammi Kapoor didn't even mention about this glitch in his opinion on Rafi Saab. When Asha Bhosle was struggling as second or third rate singer, Rafi Sahab was top most singer. Lata Mangeshkar never ever said anything derogatory about Rafi Sahab. But Asha Bhosle has been in habit of talking loose about Rafi Sahab. She is herself a singing legend but pretty ordinary human being.

In Kerala some 50 years ago no body heard Hindi songs, but only Malayalam song. Once I went to relative' s home I chanced to hear a Hindi song. That voice was so attractive that entered into my mind and blood. Sine then I am a great fan of Rafi Saheb.

The people of Kerala, particularly that of Malabar area and to some extent that of Cochin area were fond of Hindi songs of Rafi Saab and Lataji in 50s and 60s. बहुत साल पहले मशहूर फिल्मी पत्रिका "माधुरी" में एक मराठी पत्रकार श्री अजित प्रधान ने एक लेख लिखा था "गायन में महान कौन ? रफ़ी या लता" और उन्होंने गायन के विभिन्न मापदंडो और आवाज़ की खूबियों,पिच,ऊंचाई, गहराई, लम्बाई और प्रभाव के पैमाने पर ये साबित किया था कि रफ़ी साहब लता जी से ज्यादा बड़े या महान सिंगर हैं। उन्हीं पैमानों में ये दो पहलू वाले गीतों का भी लेखक ने आकलन किया था। जो कि ये सभी गीत लता जी बजाय केवल रफ़ी साहब के नाम से ही पहचाने जाते हैं।

In 1987 the great Maestro Naushad Ali visited aur county we had a beautiful get-together with him, I sang a Mohd Rafi song, and he was hery happy, and he commented so nicely on my song, I still keeping those precious comments and for me it's more precious than any Grammy award or so.
