I hold jets in forceps then heat them with a lighter. The varnish extrudes out like tiny turd and turns to ash. No poking required. My Vincent restorer mentor taught me that trick forty years ago and it's worked flawlessly since. Jets being delicate I prefer to destroy the clog without poking. (Worst way is welding tip cleaners which are round files!)
I use guitar strings. Works perfectly. Heat the end with a lighter and it will punch right through the gunk in the jet. I wish I could add a photo of the tool I made from one. The way you are doing it - you might try chucking the jet into a drill and going very slowly push the bit into the jet while it is turning. Much more stable and less apt to breaking the bit.

I was just going to say the same thing 🎯 I've had great success with guitar strings/wire.
you should be able to get Gauging drills from a local L.P and N.G gas supply house. I bought mine in a case with 21 bits from a local supplier near me. They’ve always worked well for me to clean jets.

Look up “Root canal” files. Dentist use them, they are small like your bits but they have nifty little burrs on them you can use to pull debris out with.

My buddy cleans his rifle shells, with citric acid in his ultrasonic cleaner. I wonder if that would work?

Much easier in my lathe , still l break a lot of them 0.45mm. And I still do it by hand power ,using the lathe for stability .
Another great use of the lathe...it never ends for uses of that tool.
