Both had loud, but pretty ugly voices. Salminen could phrase beautifully when he wanted to though, as Seneca for example. Burchuladze was better in slavic roles than italian ones.
@@revivaljesus Salminen has ugly timbre but not as throaty as Burchuladze and his interpretation is quite good. Burchuladze's delivery is a bit too choppy.
@@BaroneVitellioScarpia1 Yes, Salminen is a charismatic actor. And as Seneca his intonation and phrasing is uncommonly good for a bass. Karajan liked Burchuladze and used him alot in his last years. A big, heavy voice, but not a very attractive one.
