I did this during a CLA on mine and got the same results you describe - gaining about 120mm of focus (around ~579mm now). Several of the other videos detailing this on RUclips claim to gain 350mm of focus but this isn't possible with the lens design. I wonder if they are not measuring from the actual focal plane within the camera.
My screw bent... I didnt have any "wd-40" , so I just tried without it - put in the screwdriver and with a clamp rotate i. AAaand I think my screw tore... I didnt check I just kept twisting and I wasnt twisting it out, I was actually twisting the Metal its self so it looks like as if the metal of the screw bent into the direction I was turning in... now its just a spiral, not a screw :/ . I had two screws, and well one is ruined so I dont know what to do now. any tips? Im no pro
hello I followed this mod instructions and now the lens focuses to about 55 cm instead of 70cm but I lost infinity focus in the way that it gets past infinity and blurred again even if on the scale of the lens it reads ''infinity'' what could have I done wrong? (i adapt it to a sony a7 camera) also I noticed that other people were getting a close focus of around 35 cm and I saw some sample images which shows way more bokeh than i seem to get. any advice?
Hi Fedmusic, di you manage to fix this problem. I am in the same situation after removing the screw, it goes way beyond infinity and blur, and the close focus is not changed that much. It will be much appreciated if you share your workout, mate :)
@@NickBarulov no honestly I have not found any solution! i have the newer version of the lens (black version). I measured it again and I was wrongly measuring 55 cm from the end of the lens but from the focal plane is closer actually to 70 cm. and still no way to obtain some of the great bokeh I've seen on examples online. if you find any more info let me know!
@@Fedbo Those were surely examples with the extension tubes or helicoid adapters being used. Also, some people reverse the front element for the extra "swirl" (but less drastic and tastier than the same mod performed on Helios 44 series). You won't achieve anything like it by simply removing this screw, since you only get a little bit closer. The lens is actually pretty sharp when used for macro and many aperture blades are pretty useful too.
@@dejandodic9482 actually you can get those results, check out the video made by the youtube channel Raychristofer, the guy does the same mod and achieves a pretty impressive bokeh, I had a talk with him and he's not using any extension tubes so it still doen't explain what's going on
Great video, The only difference with my lens was the infinity stop screw wasn't long enough to stop focus throw. However, the 0.7 stop screw was. I ended up switching the longer 0.7 stop screw for the shorter infinity screw and flowing the rest of the instructions.
Hey there, thanks for the video! I have a black Mir 1-b myself and I tried to perform this mod just now. The small screws got loose like a charm but I only found two of them - I checked the two other holes with a magnifying glass and a lot of light, I'm pretty sure there were just these two... I hope. Now when I try to twist the lens like you do, the whole thing seems to turn in itself, I don't feel anything coming loose. The only thing I can loosen is the front element but I don't want that for this mod, do I? Do you have any hints, ideas or an advice what might have gone wrong? Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany! :-)
Hello lens freak how are you? I want you to know I did a thorough review of this lens on my channel and you help me with the close Focus modification with this video. I mentioned your video in my review and put a link to it also hopefully your work will help other people as well, feel free to check it out if you like.
Your review of the lens talked me into ordering one a couple of days ago. I have to say that your presentation style is unusually good. You also mention details of using the lens (also in your Helios review) that other reviewers pass over.
Omg, found you after 8 years. Awesome ❤❤❤
Your MIr-1's are in so much better condition than mine!
