    Thank you. Had replaced a window regulator and motor on a late 90s QX4. This looks like a bit more. Now a 2006 BMW 525i. Daughter and grandchildren tell me BMW’s are notorious for this issue. Will give it a shot as it’s a back window. Worse case can’t fix it and maybe labor will be cheaper.

    I don't recommend replacing this with used parts, as these things break down way more often than you think. The weak spot is a tiny weld on the wire that breaks, requiring replacement of the whole assembly. You can buy a new replacement from dozens of different online places. Just don't buy it from the $tealer. As for the air bag code, it shouldn't send a code if you first disconnect the battery, as you should with all repairs involving electrics. You also really don't need to disconnect the air wires at all. Just find some scrap wire to hang the unit on the door without unplugging it.

    My dad taught me how to fix a lot of stuff, but he doesn't know shit about taking care of a car. Consequently, I don't know anything about working on cars either. Thank you for helping me be a more complete man.

    Bosch cordless screwdriver would be a good idea. Also I generally do not unplug the airbag, I just move the moisture barrier and leave the airbag where it is. If you unplug it (even if you disconnect the battery) you might need a BMW airbag reset tool, not too expensive.

    Is there a trick to getting the regulator to release tension if window is completely up, and some of bolts cant be reached, and you're in junkyard and no battery in car?

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1 4 года назад

      Usually the junkyard stuff should have a battery for rent, even a smaller 12v one. Ask at the entrance

    Is it possible to just leave the airbag connected to avoid having to buy a tool and reset?

      disconnect your battery first but youll have to fuck with rolling the window up and down

    I simply do not have the patience for this.. I hate to say it, but I would save up the money and take it to the dealership to be ripped off.. I feel better getting ripped off..

      It's not really that bad, just do your research and be careful when doing it. If you're going to own a BMW you should know how to do maintenance things like this.

    • @Funckinnutcase
      @Funckinnutcase Год назад +1

      It's not that bad at all. This guy adds unnecessary steps, making it harder than it is. You don't need to remove the airbag or the full vapor barrier.

    just a piece of advice to throw out there for everyone, they also make software that comes with a disk and a USB to OBD2 cable. if you have a laptop and don't want to buy a special reader. I think I paid like 30 bucks for mine.
