It’s more than that. If it were up to them they’d have 6 teams in the 22 team playoff--because they are used to automatically getting 50% of the participants in the previous formats
SEC always gets to make excuses for bad losses because of the patch on the front of their jerseys.
Indiana loses by 10 on the road to Notre dame and everyone says they don’t belong--
Georgia loses by 13 to Notre dame in a dome in the SOUTH and everybody got excuses -oh they had too much time off. Please

There are two things going on with the SEC. First, the rosters are not as deep as years past because of NIL and the portal. Second, for decades the entire conference has been leeching glory off of whichever two teams are at the top of the conference. I disagree that the middle and the bottom are better. Quite the opposite. The middle and the bottom are the same as every other conference.

The SEC only has one team left in the playoffs and Texas is more than likely still only in due to the refs not calling an obvious targeting, thus preventing a possible game winning field goal by Arizona. Georgia was dominated by Notre Dame. South Carolina beat by Illinois. By what standard are the mid and lower SEC standouts. Not by playing weaken top level SEC teams. • @bigredracingdog466

2:21 Nope. The middle of the SEC WASN'T superior to other conferences, especially the B1G.
Florida beat non-Power-5 team Tulane. BFD.
Vandy beat 7-5 GaTech by one score. BFD.
Oklahoma isn't a good example; they lost to Navy.
    Meanwhile:
Missouri had to come back from down 10 to beat Iowa by 3.
Alabama, which had been overrated all season, lost to 7-5 and unranked Michigan.
South Carolina, which had been overrated all season, lost to Illinois.
Texas A&M, which had been overrated all season, lost to 6-6 and unranked USC.
Tennessee, which had been overrated all season, got crushed by Ohio State.
In the minds of SEC fans, when Alabama loses to Oklahoma, it's because the SEC is so strong, and when Ohio State lost to Michigan, it's because the B1G is so weak. The bowl games put an end to that nonsense.

Not that some members haven't been very good in the past, it's just that it's only been one or two while the media spews constant propaganda that the whole conference is so much stronger than it actually is. This always starts with high preseason rankings setting a false floor. Then when teams lose to each other they don't drop as much as they should because of the built-in false idea that it was a "good loss." That's why you get teams like South Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia being ranked better than they actually are throughout the season.

I've been saying it for years. Once players get NIL money. SEC is going to see a massive drop off. They've been paying players behind closed doors for who knows how long and yes other schools did also I'm sure. But not to the extent. Now it's a even playing field. And frankly, the other conferences has more money. Better universities, better tv deals.. the Big Ten is going to take over.
Ohio State is always good. Oregon has Nike money, Penn State and wisconsins produces the most CEOs. USC and UCLA has LA money. Michigan is Michigan..
There's a reason Saban waa a failure at the NFL level. A .500 ball coach at Michigan State and then never had a losing record in the SEC. He also bailed once he knew what NIL would do. 😂 Ruin his legacy.

The sec paid players long before it was legal. Now that NIL rules allow other conferences to pay players legally, the sec has lost their illegal advantages over the other law abiding power conferences. Another issue that needs to be addressed is how the sec teams start off and stay highly rated in the rankings. Before any games are played, numerous sec teams are arbitrarily ranked in the top 25 for no objective reason. This gives the sec an unfair advantage over all the other conferences. Since no games have yet been played, the rankings are arbitrary opinions based on no factual evidence of how a team has actually performed in the current season. Teams should not be ranked in the preseason before playing any games as it results in ratings that may not be accurate. This injustice helps sec teams stay highly ranked when one undeserving yet highly ranked sec team loses to another undeserving yet highly ranked sec team and does not drop much in the rankings simply because they lost to an undeserving yet highly rated sec team. This results in sec teams staying in highly ranked yet undeserved positions in the polls. The sec plays only 8 conference games while the BIG10 plays nine. This fact allows sec teams to avoid another peer on peer game in favor of a power conference on weaker conference game, almost assuredly resulting in another undeserved and noncompetitive victory for the sec against an over matched opponent. The sec teams may play one good team from another power conference occasionally, but they always load up on multiple weaker conference opponents to pad their win/loss records. The fallacy of sec football dominance has been revealed for the farce it has always been.

I don't think the SEC was overrated, in my personal opinion, you're starting to see what this constant transfer portal and NIL is doing to a conference like the SEC, that will pay anything for a player in football. The constant shifting of personnel on the field has provided good talent but talent that has played with each other for only a short period of time. Watching OSU and Notre Dame, the announcers made a big deal about the players that were not only 4th and 5th year seniors but have stayed at said schools the whole time. Ole Miss is a great example of butchering NIL to get good players from other SEC schools. OM will beat teams like Georgia but then lose to teams like Kentucky. Inconsistency with players not used to playing with each other is a bigger issue than people realize.

Yep; just a bunch of cupcakes beating up on each other and getting propped up by ESPN and the national media. With the changes to NIL and the portal it looks like it's going to be harder for programs and conferences to maintain extended superiority as the talent pool will simply be much more dispersed and it will be much harder for a few elite places to stockpile talent 3-4 players deep at every position. We're already seeing it this year where even the top teams can be seriously compromised by a couple key injuries.

Alabama got builied and bitched by Michigan, South Carolina lost to Illinois, Kirby Smart and Georgia got outcoached and outclassed by Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame, Tennessee got steamed rolled by Ohio State, Texas almost choked and looked like they were trying to give Arizona State that win. I hate to say it, but Ole Miss is the only SEC team that proved that they should be in the playoffs by dominating in their bowl game. Yeah, Texas is the only SEC team left in the playoffs, but I'm telling you right now, no disrespect to Arizona State. I like Arizona State and they are a good team but they are not on the same level as Ohio State. All I have to say about Texas, if you think struggling against Arizona State is one thing and almost choking the game away, y'al are in a rude awakening when y'all play Ohio State. Ohio State is a scary team in these playoffs. I don't wanna say someone come in my comment "Duke starting quarterback transferred" bruh well of that's the case, how come Ole Miss was able to take care of their business, but Alabama lost to a Michigan team where their starting quarterback gets hurt during the game, 2 running backs were injured, their starting Tight End was injured, their best pass rusher was injured, their best defensive tackel was hurt and like 4 more other players got hurt and plus, Alabama was a 17 point favorite. @@tarheel7406 , I largely agree with you. You can't hold it against Duke as they play with a 3rd string QB and are several players short due to portal and NFL absences.
That said, Alabama wasn't missing many parts, certainly not as many parts as Michigan, but still lost in bad fashion.
Nobody seems to care however when Cam Ward sits out part of the game but Iowa State is on 3rd stringers on defense and are missing their best weapons on offense. The announcers didn't but hardly mention it.

The Big 10 is the emerging football power. Ohio State is on the precipice of CFB domination. So be it. The other conferences will have to adapt to become competitive. For the past 20 years, the SEC has had more players drafted to the NFL than any other Conference . Those are wondering if it’s even close the big 10 generally has been the second best at draftable players, but there’s still a decent gap between the amount of players SEC has had drafted in the amount of players vs other conferences.
