They are doing such an amazing job with all these illustrated editions of the HP books! I'm hoping next year we might get the quidditch one - that could be fun :)
Oh I was hoping you'd do a comparison video of these two editions. I'm torn, on one hand I really like Lisbeth's subtle interpretation of these tales (even though I do feel like she didn't quite capture the "magicalness" of the Wizarding World like Chris Riddell did - kinda like Olivia Lomenech Gill, but in her case, I really hated what she did with Fantastic Beasts). And on the other hand, I'm a huge fan of Chris Riddell's work, but with this, I don't know, I feel like the illustrations are too "in-your-face" (color wise). And then cover wise, I much prefer the US one, it has that classy/timeless look.
Just 'Kiran Yes, they are both such talented illustrators, and I love them both, but their styles are very, very different. If forced to choose, I would recommend the Chris Riddell edition - as you say, it captures more of my idea of the magical wizarding world, while Lisbeth’s are more like a fairy tale book (which of course, it is!). Although - you may just end up like me and manage to justify having both in your library, ha 😂
Definitely get the UK Chris Riddell's one - many more illustrations and tie in nicely with the HP Wizarding world, including illustrations of Dumbledore, McGonagall, Voldemort, Malfoys, wands, creatures, ancient wizards and witches - bringing not just the stories alive, but also the Dumbledore's commentaries and footnotes!
That's the one I ended up getting :) ! It's indeed very beautiful (I wish it was smaller to look more like a classic fairy tales book tho). It's sitting pretty in on my shelf waiting to be reread :D
mingwengng I agree - the illustrations in the commentaries are just as incredible as the illustrations in the stories - I particularly love how he has imagined all of the fantastic beasts 😀

I've been meaning to buy an edition for the Tales of Beedle the Bard for a while, but never got around to it (I prefered the Tomislav Tomic one until then), and then they released the Chris Riddell one! I had the opportunity to look at it at a bookshop yesterday and it is so beautiful, definitely my favorite now. (I read the Edge Chronicles as a child, have always loved his work). I didn't know the Lisbeth Zwerger edition before your video, so that was really nice to see. :) And especially nice to catch a glimpse at the 'limited' edition one, I only ever saw the outside cover on photos, but it looks lovely!
Laura's Illustrated Treasures I love Tomislav Tomic’s artwork - have you seen his Trick of the Tale? It is simply gorgeous! I love all of Chris Riddell’s work and his Beedle is really cool. (Now is probably a good time to pick up both - I got my Tomic set for a few dollars because the store was clearing out to make way for the fancy new editions!) And yes, the limited set was a cool design 💕
Ooh, yes, the Trick of the Tale! It's been on my Amazon wishlist for years, because of the subject matter, it was only when I started looking up the illustrators of the Rainbow Fairy Books that I realized I knew Tomislav Tomic all along, haha. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but it's great to hear that it won't disappoint. :D And thanks for the tip, I hadn't even considered that they might be going for less right now, I'll be on the lookout!
