- Test flight in the Edge 540 after replacing the crankshaft seal.
Finally getting back in the air after a few days of maintenance and work. Not the best day to practice, but it felt good to get in the air regardless. The Edge 540 is a surprisingly easy aircraft to work on. The ability to remove panels and access everything quickly makes routine maintenance a breeze.
Wish u made more vids man, so fun to watch
Just started back up!
The wheel pants Alex. My heart can’t take it
haha this week they will be done!
Have you owned airplanes with wheel pants? They are a complete pain in the ... Especially when flying & taxing on grass, muddy, and rough strips. Mine weighed 12 lbs. on my Pitts S1S. Not worth the weight and constant problems for only a slight increase in speed. Try adding air in the tires with tight fitting wheel pants. Total pain and waste of time.
As my wife says, fashion and practical don’t always mix. The more impractical she is dressed the more I like to look. So it is with wheel pants. 😀
@@flightalytics But there’s a safety aspect that you are missing. I’ve had wheel pants crack and drag on a tire while landing. It causes the airplane to pull in one direction like applying a brake. Your wife’s outfits are not potentially life threatening.
@@pittss2c601 I can’t argue with your points and even appreciate them. The minimal speed gain does little for most of us that fly aerobatics. My artistic/design aesthetics side is in conflict with my practical side. Such is the burden I bear.
Props on the video editing by having “Thirty Four” come in as you open the door. Cool effect!
Haha I’m glad you noticed. It took me like 30 minutes to do.
Well, there are at least two people who appreciated the work! And if you appreciate your own work then its 3 😅
Nice video Alex. Stay dry! :)
Just beat the rain, watched it coming in as I was landing
So sick!!!
The weather is finally clearing. I’m looking forward to getting more flying in
We got through the clouds today. Finding that “hole” clean smooth air.
I think the rain is done here for a while. Hoping to get legit practice in this weekend
@@alexandercoats I lived there for 33 years. I can’t remember ever seeing as much rain as you guys have been getting.
@@Gmoney_72 it’s crazy, I just looked and it’s showing more next week as well
My prop shipped today. Maybe by next week I will be back converting hydrocarbons to noise.
I am starting to like the No Pants Edge. Your show name can be No Pants Coats.
Hahahaha I think the running joke should be that I’m almost done with the pants. And just keep it going for months
Great edit man! I'm glad you got to fly the Edge. Are you an A&P or just really handy with an experimental?
Had to learn how to keep these things running on our own. But we have an IA oversee everything we do and completes the jobs we can’t
Had a momentary laugh when I realized that the copyrighted "1979" playing in the background might save you from getting demonitized by the lawyers at the House of Mouse for the brief Star Wars clip
Haha I gave up on monetization a long time ago, as long as the video isn't taken down I'm good.
Crank seal "seems to be holding up". That's funny. Welcome to mechanical devices. Kick the tires, start it up and hit it.
When you see the seal, you can't imagine it would hold up to the pressure but it seems to be working, no signs of a leak after the flight
