  • This April, 5-year-old AJ Freund was found dead in Illinois, and his parents were charged with murder. After Freund's death, "CBS This Morning" started looking into how something like this could allegedly happen, despite previous interventions by police and child welfare workers. We discovered that hundreds of American children known to Child Protective Services die of maltreatment every year. To learn more, spent a day with a CPS caseworker in Outagamie County, Wisconsin - and learned the disturbing and heartbreaking reality of the profession. Jericka Duncan reports.

    I was in foster care for 18 yrs. thankfully I ended up ok. This is bs I live with a family now cps wouldn’t let me go when I was child with her because it was a “conflict of interest”. Because my mom worked for a shelter and wanted to take me and my brother. That was when I was 7. I had to wait till I was grown to have my happy ending. There are many others with a similar story to mine. No child deserves to question there worth and grow up like I did. Something needs to change. • @desktopkitty
    @desktopkitty 4 года назад +67

    The police and even hospital employees concluded we did not abuse or neglect our child, but we've been fighting CPS since 2016 to get our child back. Previous to being taken by CPS our child who has never been sick, never as much as had one single ear infection or ever had to be hospitalized, while in CPS custody had needed hospitalization, repeatedly had drastic weight fluctuations (over 20 pounds) of weight in relatively short (2 to 3 month) periods and was diagnosed with failure to thrive. My child has suffered more damage from an emotional and medical standpoint while in custody of CPS than she would have had she been allowed to stay home with us. We are loving parents. We don't drink, smoke or do drugs. We're both college educated professionals. I have a degree in childhood education and development and used to work as a teacher, but decided to be a stay at home mom. CPS rips children out of loving homes, damages the parents' reputation, career, and lives while simultaneously causing irreparable harm to the child. CPS has stated their goal is to have our child adopted by a non-family member. FACT, if our child gets adopted as per CPS wishes, they get more government funding than if they return our child back to us. We were never even charged with abusing or harming our child; they have no reason not to return her to us, other than the financial incentive. They are making money off of my child. Plain and simple.

She and her husband were murdered for her efforts. Nancy Schafer was her name. Please, if there are families with children within your community who need help, please try to come together as a community and help at that level. Don't sic these heartless, power hungry, and in some cases perverted egomaniacs on your fellow Americans. When I got the report she put so many inaccurate statements on the report it was crazy. She even put down my job position down wrong. CPS does not want to keep families together. She is even trying to use things from when I was a minor as a reason not to give me my kids back!!

      CPS has the classic defense that gets bad laws passed and wins every argument, even when they are wrong: Think of the children. They aren't accountable to anyone and they have all the authority to absolutely obliterate lives. To quote one CPS agent I chatted with at a local event, "Every parent is a bad parent. I just have to catch them."

    I had my baby taken away last November when he was 4 days old from the hospital. No drugs or alcohol, he was healthy, I was just by myself and struggling with post partum depression, a new first time mom, semi homeless ( I lied to get in the YWCA domestic violence shelter bc I was 8 months pregnant) and scared. They took my son after him just having a circumcision the evening prior. It has been 8 months. I have a place, completed a parenting class, take medicine, see a therapist, and am signed up for college. He is still not home. Anytime I tried to speak up about DCS being corrupt, they would use my trauma and bipolar diagnosis against me to discredit me. They even tried to take my visits away to keep me in line. I had just now got someone to look in my case. The DCS liason from the governor's office here in Indiana got people to look in my case. We have a meeting in a couple of weeks. I have voice recordings and emails exposing their misdeeds. Hopefully we can get a resolution. My son is 8 months and I have missed so much time with him. I wanted better for him. He deserved better. My family and I are devastated. We have had DCS ruin our lives when I was a child. I'm praying this doesn't happen again to my baby.

      Stay strong you’re doing everything perfect! I am so happy for you that you got that far. I would love to have my case that was closed 1.5 years ago looked at too. They took my 2 daughters away for 8 months. I didn’t fail any drug test or anything. They even made false reports to child-line to have more reports against me to help their case. I was single and didn’t have money to fight them. I made the mistake of letting them in my home. Only because I had nothing to hide. They made me believe their lies and we were tore apart for 8 months. That was almost a year and half ago. I’m still fighting the trauma from it today. I was never even in trouble with the law ever. They caused so much damage to my family. The only thing I can think about is proving my innocences and suing them, but I have no money to do so. I tried contacting lawyers in the beginning. I was told that we had so much corruption in our county that all lawyers refused to come into the county to fight for anyone.

This is also how the compartmentalization of our government is designed to protect itself.
      The person who opened charges against me was my ex-husband and he works in government intelligence, so there was literally nothing I could do to protect my children once I had placed them both in a public school system. This is where the children can be legally removed by other 'academic (gov) professionals' who will straight out LIE in order to remove a targeted child for state trafficking, as was in my case that lasted for over 18 months.
      Parents: Don't let this happen be your story. Please remove your precious children from this beast public school system. ALL of the administrators and teachers in the American public schools are now involved in Satanism and black witchcraft, requiring rituals that some brazen teachers are even doing on children in their classrooms. Sexual abuse even in infants, child pornography set ups, incest, children living in terrible conditions (like a floor full of feces and rat infested beds), children living in homes with meth labs, a child's face beyond recognition from abuse, child reporting being thrown into the wall, shaken babies, dead babies and toddlers, the list goes on and on. So many times, parents who abuse their children (let me emphasize parents who DO abuse their children) blame CPS or "the system" instead of doing some self-reflection and realizing that maybe taking anger out on children isn't a good coping skills after all. When you see how incredibly prevalent child abuse, severe child abuse at that, is in the world, it makes you question the authenticity of everyone around you. It can break you if you let it. How many of the people saying that every CPS worker is evil can handle seeing or reading about severely abused children on the daily without going crazy? Reformation is needed

    I would like to point out just because a parent is using doesn't mean the kids are abused or neglected. I believe she did the right thing with that mom in show, because the father is not on drugs, the older kids are in daycare when dads at work. Also CPS is a joke! My daughters father got arrested my daughter was not with him at the time, well they found drug stuff in the house and because my daughter lived there. It was in his drawer, but because she lived there he got charged with indangering the welfare of a child. Fast forward they call me to tell me her dad got arrested I said o OK were not together and my daughter was with me so why dose this involve me? O well when there is an open cps case we investagate both parents okay, they then start asking me about my son who has a different father and I said wait what's my son got to do with this? I did do anything? We look at all the mothers children!? Wait what? So I said okay so if justin( my daughters father) had other children would you look into them being as how hes the one that did something wrong? No just the mother!? I was completely lost! They then proceeded to remove my son because I lived with my dad and he has a bad criminal record, mind you he was charged with something and the case was dropped! Still took my son and ordered that my daughter go stay with her fathers mother! Again at this point They had no complaint on me! They just ran everyone's names in my dads house and did like his record! Went to court about 3 days later they did this over the weekend. And the judge looked at the paper work goes why were these children removed!? What did the mother do? Who was arrested? And they don't live together? And her father was a aquited on those charges! This is ridiculous you need to worry about this little girls father not her mother. Give the kids back to.the mother I'll deal with the father when he gets out of rehab. Thankfully I had a reasonable judge had I not who's knows? CPS took one of my cousins kids but not the other if she's such a risk why is she allowed to keep the other kid? You know why people want babies and cps gets cash money for them! Same reason my infant son was put in foster care and not my 6 year old people want babies and CPS will ste them and get money for it too. Don't speak to CP's, don't take any tests do nothing without a warrant that's my advice.

    My teen daughter rebelled against my home rules wanted to be grown & thought it would be smart to get acs involved. Saw it was a big difference from her life at home & went missing under the care of ACS she was only discovered by being the victim of a horrific accident she’s not hospitalized with 2nd. & 3rd. Degree burns and traumatic brain injury. When my child went awol I was told it happens all the time. NYPD issued no amber alert for my child. My daughter’s innocence has been robbed she was a virgin when she left my home. Now she’s has so much trauma and doesn’t want me to leave her side when I visit the hospital. They need to be exposed for the maltreatment of children. She was safe at home. I hate she had to learn in such a horrific way, my child didn’t deserve any of what she’s suffering from.

    60-90% of trafficked children from fostercare. Governors need to stop contributing to the delinquency of minors in their state, by giving grandparents rights when their grandchildren are placed in fostercare. Workers are told to "try" to place with family but they often dont. In fact, they dont even allow grandparents to visit their grandchildren while they are in fostercare. They often wont allow them in courtroom when the grandparent filed for custody. Grandparents often report the abuse and workers ignore them ,so when its proved they are right,workers dont want to look bad in court.

    They are taking some steps by pushing for agencies to help get foster parents licensed & provide additional advocacy/support. But I got licensed through an agency (a Christian one at that) without even getting a home study which apart from a background check is the most critical part of the vetting process; I found out I was licensed as a therapeutic foster parent a week after I told agency I wasnt going w/ them as something didnt smell right. I go to new agenxy & have to start the licensing process all over (nearly 8 months) & they tell me Im entitled to the homestudy from previous agency. They reluctantly give it up & tell me not to share w/ my new agency. The doc is full of lies. They made my childhood look better than it was & even talked about my mom & dad's positive relationship when i was a kid (but my dad left my mom before I waa even born & was never in the picture). I pushed for an investigation of the 1st agency until someone would finally take me seriously. My new agency is great. As far as the teens who come to me, either family can no longer care for them so give them up or teens are so problematic that no relatives/friends wants to take them in; some teens are even kicked out of group homes for behavior issues & I have seen case workers working hard to try & keep these teens safe & then there are some so fed up that they're telling kids to try & emancipate themselves or check out of custody as soon as they're 18 (they can stay until 21) when they know these teens will have no safe place to go once they're out of CPS custody - ive heard quite a few teens have checked themselves back into CPS custody so they can get a secured place to sleep/eat each day. There are negatives & positives to the system.

    They focus on single parents who can’t afford a private lawyer. They also target addicts I can say not all addict are good but I also can say not all are bad. They just need to rid this corrupt system and pay the victims for trauma. Return the children to the parents wrongfully accused. Then the federal government needs give the funds to a person or the people willing to do better and that can prove their system actually does good and treats trauma not give to the ones causing it.
