      FYI….We had a trial run on a South Pacific island hopper, as we are doing the repositioning cruise on the Luminosa from Seattle to Brisbane in September this year, which includes Alaska and Japan. Yes she is around 2000 passenger vista class ship, doesn’t have all the Carnival Fun ship things onboard yet, as the rebranding from Costa to Carnival was a very limited timeframe before the south pacific season start in Nov last year.
      The pulses are. The ship was very clean, beds were comfortable, we had a balcony cabin on Deck 6.
      Everything you needed, crew are very helpful, you only have to ask. We found plenty to do during the sea days. I am sure your Alaska trip will be viewing and sightseeing.
      Lido buffet is good, mostly you line up to the counter area of what you want and you are served. Dining room has good vibe, we found something on the menu to our liking every night. Fell in love with their sorbets, choice of 3 flavours every night. 😋😋😋. Frozen yoghurt and ice cream, vanilla and chocolate self serve during the day on Deck 9 by the pool, either in cones or tubs. May not be quite as popular on the Alaska run 😊
      BIG PLUS. Because right now it doesn’t have all the Carnival FUN ship bits up top. That gives you ample space for panoramic viewing of the Inside passage on the upper decks. The pool roof closes up in cold or bad weather, on decks 9/10 there are panoramic full length windows with couches Deck 10, tables and chairs on Deck 9. We found her a very pleasant ship, easy to navigate around. 3 sets of lifts (forward, mid ships and aft) Lots of areas to sit with soft background music to read or people watch, find your own comfortable spot. Some people on RUclips have given it a bad rap. Didn’t meet their expectations, quite frankly I don’t know what they are looking for if they wanted a huge, have everything type floating city, then the Luminosa isn’t it.
      If you want a charming ship, not too big but big enough to have bars positioned all over the ship, find the one that suits you, a huge theatre, restaurants, pools, spas and Java Blue coffee house to buy speciality coffees and cakes then the Luminosa answers all of those. I would advise you to bring a thermo mug so you can fill up with warm drinks free of charge at Lido Buffet and not spill anything on the way to your viewing platform. They serve tea, drip filter coffee and hot chocolate, along with some cold drinks.
      Pizza is available until 3am for those wanting a late night snack.
      Public restrooms, have automatic doors on entry and exit. Makes perfect sense in these Covid times.
      All in all we gave Luminosa a 4/5 ⭐️ she met all our requirements.
      It’s not ultra modern, but that its charm, I’m an Australian btw hope you enjoy your time on the Luminosa

      I’m with you Rob. Doing the repositioning cruise from Seattle back to Brisbane via Alaska and Japan in September. We did a trial run in early March, found the ship charming and easy to navigate around.
      She’s just the right size for us.
      Plus not having all Fun ship bits added as yet, that leaves plenty of upper deck space for viewing Alaska.
      Not everyone on board needs the slides, however having said that, we don’t have to entertain little ones. The winged funnel would be good though.

      @oliont5949 It is said it will get all the carnival fun ship accoutrements when it is next in dry dock.
      It only had a limited time to get rebranded in the first instance because the original Costa Magica which was coming down under ended up being sold to a Greek ferry company, enter the Luminosa with very limited time before having to be in service for the summer season of 2022/3. Complaints should be made to Carnival not the ship.

    • @robd5558
      @robd5558 Год назад

      @oliont5949 I think the main problem is there is no place to really put the slides. They have to keep it so they can close the roof in the pool area when I’m the ship is in Alaska so there would be no room for a slide.

    So strange to be watching the very same ship I was on about the same time of this video's upload. I don't think it out of the question that we were on the same cruise!

  • @blacksorrento4719
    @blacksorrento4719 Год назад +2

    Does every Carnival ship have to have the same things, why can’t it be individual?
    Luminosa didn’t have a lot of time to get fully rebranded or refurbished, as the original Costa ship that was to come down under was going to be the Costa Magica but it was sold whilst in the process of being rebranded. Enter the Luminosa a younger ship by 6 years, limited time in dry dock. She has an old world vibe about her, which is lovely, please leave her alone and if you want the whole FUN ship experience, book on a different Carnival ship.
    If one watches the latest RUclips videos from its Alaskan tours happening April - Sept 2023, the fact that there are no FUN ship slides etc., up on the top decks, has been a bonus for those passengers, they have an uninterrupted view of cruising the inside passage. major bonus. 👏👏👏 those outside panoramic views with no obscuring slides getting in the way. There are + and - to everything.

    • @goodshipcruising
      @goodshipcruising  Год назад +1

      I’d like to respectfully disagree with you on this one 😃 And I have several reasons why. Firstly by your own logic “book on a different ship” you could also argue this for Alaska sailings - simply find a ship without slides, there are MANY! Equally Luminosa will spend half of her time sailing in the Queensland tropics which I believe does justify an upgrade to the outdoor experiences. Just like her predecessor Carnival Spirit (Which Aussies are familiar with and love) And in reference to wanting the “whole fun ship experience” you are suggesting that somehow Luminosa is inferior to her fleet mates. Carnival relies heavily on the fun ship branding and I believe Australian customers deserve a fully renovated experience (whenever that becomes possible) She is a lovely ship and full of potential! I certainly enjoyed my experience onboard and can’t wait to see what they do with her next. Warm Regards 😄😄

    • @blacksorrento4719
      @blacksorrento4719 Год назад

      @@goodshipcruising with respect also, we could go back and forth on this for ages.
      Let’s just agree to disagree. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the Luminosa, but much like buying or renting a certain car you do so for it to fit your needs. Same with cruising, you really need to pick your ship, not just the cruise line.
      No doubt because of the short time frame in rebranding Carnival could NOT do all they wanted to, and for some people she was found wanting and in some ways a disappointing experience. No doubt in the next “dry dock” that will be rectified, until then perhaps Carnival Splendor is more in keeping with the whole Fun ship experience for those down under who require that, or RC Ovation of the Seas, both have east coast ports. I have flown up to Brisbane to sail out of there, and the same applies to those who need to sail out of Sydney, yes it’s an added cost, but then again we get back to the debate of picking your ship.
      Always positives and negatives, nothing is ever 100% and if it is, that’s a bonus. 👍

      @@blacksorrento4719 You do realise that there are PLENTY MORE ships that sail to Alaska than there are Carnival ships in Australia, right?? (I just checked: Miracle, Legend, Spirit and Luminosa all sail Alaska gee wiz that's four choices you guys have) We literally have TWO Carnival ships in this Country - 1 all year round (Splendor) and the other (Luminosa) during our summer season (October - April most years) so why can't Americans choose a different ship instead? Why do we have to suffer without the fun stuff because Americans(for the most part) sailing Alaskan waters don't "want our views interrupted by stupid waterslides" when you have three other ships you could go on? We could say the same thing: we don't want Americans taking away OUR enjoyment of the 2.0 upgrades which separate Carnival from the other Australian cruise lines like P&O ?
      I just booked a cruise on Splendor because she DOES have the fun ship stuff like Guys burgers & the slides, I wanted to go on Luminosa as the people I'm going with live in QLD, but they also have a 9 year old and a 4 year old who wanted "the one with the slides" so we had to choose the Splendor because I had no other choice, unlike you where you have plenty of Carnival ships that sail the alaskan waters. I mean it's not rocket science for you to understand is it? our ONE ship vs your THREE ships?

    • @blacksorrento4719

      @@Leesa06 I’m Australian, not American. Live in NSW.
      I have just returned from Alaska, Japan transpacific repositioning cruise. We did a 7 day Alaska cruise back to back with the repositioning, it was wonderful to be on the uppermost decks and get the whole uninterrupted vista of the inside passage.
      As I explained in previous comments, it will no doubt get all the FUN ship accoutrements when next in dry dock.
      It’s rebranding time last year was way too short, as the Luminosa was not the ship we were supposed to get. It was the Magica but Carnival sold it during its rebranding, enter the Luminosa with an even shorter rebranding time, and Carnival couldn’t complete it.
      How about this for an analogy.
      You like a certain car manufacturer, but not necessarily all the models as they are all quite different. Same with the ships, they don’t all have to be the same?
      However, I do get your point about only two carnival ships servicing our summer cruise season. One in Sydney ( Splendor 2007) one in Brisbane ( Luminosa 2009) the one without any fun slides ☹️ it does have kids club, deck games, a pool with a roof so that it can be used in good and bad weather, plus movie nights out on the lido deck. It may not have Guy’s, though it does have hamburgers off the grill, tacos, pizza and (ice cream pretty much 16hrs a day.) all included.
      It is also easier to get around than the Splendor so I am told.
      We had a number of children on the repositioning cruise, more than what I would have thought, they were kept very busy.
      If you have a gripe take it up with Carnival. In the cruise world, Australia figures very low in the % stakes, they like our money but we get screwed over, as we love to travel, but still don’t have the population to make it truly worth their while.
      Carnival Cruise Corporation own and run Carnival, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Seabourn, P&O Cruises (Australia), Costa Cruises, AIDA Cruises, P&O Cruises (UK) and Cunard.

    I guess due to the ship's size and age, the infrastructure wouldn't allow for too many Fun Ship 2.0 features, especially waterslides. Still, the Luminosa seems like a decent ship - cozy, moderately sized, boasting generous open deck space, and sporting classic decor that is reminiscent of how the older Carnival ships were fashioned. She seemed to be rolling quite a bit in this video, though. Did you get seasick?

    • @goodshipcruising

      She is similarly sized to Carnival Spirit so I would imagine that maybe waterslides could be added. However she was really charming as is. Still very close to the Carnival experience.
